I could move to Signal, open up a chat with myself and chat for a while but I think it would get pretty boring pretty soon.

Do you think that Edward Snowden is a hero?
Reply in thread
I think you are being pedantic. If you went in risking your life to rescue a puppy from a burning house but the puppy doesn't make it because of the fumes or you jump on a robber but he kills and leaves with the money anyway, do you stop being a hero because you failed to enact change? That's ridiculous.

I wouldn't imagine that OP meant the question as Snowden being permanently labeled a hero for all of his life actions, nor should anyone ever be labeled as such. We are judging a specific action he took many years ago and also in a context of people generally labeling his action as good or bad since then. We are also not talking about comic book characters that are consistently one way or another through all of their actions. We can agree that a convicted felon can be heroic and a puppy loving doctor can do villainous shit as well depending on circumstance, opportunity and personal moral beliefs.
But for this specific action of exposing a terrible truth and essentially losing his way of life and being forced to live as a refugee, I don't think we should get into the pendatry of what a hero in theory is or if his action led to any actual change. Being suppressed by forces with way more weight than you doesn't eliminate whatever label your actions deserve.

Why is that?

Ding ding ding. It's the same people that push AI. That's why the messaging is conflicting, to answer the original post question.

Ah heck
I don't know man. Most ai is way to overly bubbly and friendly for me. So I'd be suspicious if anyone sends a super warm embellished email instead of getting straight to the point.

EU age verification app to ban any Android system not licensed by Google
What is it with everyone being obsessed with porn censorship suddenly? Why is this a trend?
At first I thought it's about control and data gathering, but this seems like too much of a genuine attempt at such a system. Why is the government so obsessed with parenting and nannying the citizens?

Why do people want games that are just stories without any gameplay, these days? Why not just watch a movie for that?
The older I get the less I care about endless gameplay loops and carrot on a stick mechanics. A good story keeps me invested and caring about what happens on the screen. Games like God of War, Last of us, Witcher are gold standards when it comes to this. They are not movies on rails, they are engaging and interactive experiences like you can't find anywhere else and for this I will always love these types of games more than any other medium.
Edit: OP literally mentioned these games as examples lower down in the thread.

We've all done it
Any kind of inventory management like arrows and food is way too sweaty and has never engaged a single player ever unless the whole point of the campaign is this exact mechanic. It's a waste of time and energy and I don't play with anyone that insists on doing it.

Fairphone’s new cables and chargers are LONGTIME®-certified. Here’s what that means.
Who are all these people that have outlets next to where they usually use a phone and can use a 1m cable? All my cables are 2m because power sockets tend to be near the ground and phones and other items you charge tend to live on tables, desks and shelves. I don't understand why the USB spec considers 1m to be enough for anything.

Spotify axes 17% of workforce in third round of layoffs this year
Something that I don't quite understand about Spotify is why they had the amount of employees that they did in the first place. What were 9000 people doing for work on a music playing and recommendation website. I know they used to be highly innovative and disruptive a long time ago, but has that been the case in recent years? How were 9k people contributing to this already established web music app?

When you get tired of Distrohopping
Mint has been glazed since the beginning of time. Not a single laptop or computer I have ever owned has worked out of the box with it. As opposed to alternatives like Ubuntu or Fedora. I must be the single most unlucky person in the history of Linux.
