It is inflation for everyone, baby.
This actually reminds me of a scenario I tinkered around a few years back. Adventurers would go into a dungeon near a village and bring the loot to said village every time. Eventually, the local supply of gold was great enough to make it almost worthless for the inhabitants, who decide to kick the players out before they ruin everything.
