It's as if there's people you don't know who haven't been getting the raises you're talking about while they continue to accept bullshit from their jobs while they slowly become unable to leave their apartment due to both financial and mental issues accruing over years.

I hear your experience as well. I know there's people who aren't in that boat. I don't think that invalidates my position though.

Denuvo properly cracked in Resident Evil: Requiem, bypasses become plug-and-play — cracked version runs faster, smoother, and uses way less VRAM and RAM

I know that finding this answer is insanely difficult (or, at least, I imagine it is) but I really am left wondering what exactly the DRM is doing while the game is active to have such a process/resource overhead.

Like, async tasks that are holding a thread hostage until it's sync point? Trying to run huge hash tasks to ensure local storage of game files are "intact"? And seriously, 1.5 - 2GB of RAM utilization? I have to imagine that's not actually memory in use, but is just holding a giant block of gobbledegook so its harder to reverse?

I'm not a software engineer, so I must be way off the mark, but from my small experience in the dev world as a QA person, the performance uplifts from removing DRM should not be this palpable.... Right? I feel sorry for the actual devs who essentially just "find out" that their work is getting quite literally crippled by something that is universally hated by the consumer AND got cracked in 40 days of release.

Sid Meier's Civilization VII is Steam Deck Verified with the Linux version ahead of release on February 11

Really cool to see "mainline" titles getting this prior to release. Had a friend get pulled into Marvel Rivals who mainlines Linux at home, and he had actually 0 issues getting it running at the time. Literally just download and play. Civ also seems like the perfect game to play on a Deck, so this is a no brainer, but cool to see this stuff is getting more popular to support out-the-box.

Why is phone number verification requeriment for online services sometimes considered a privacy/security risk?

Another one is how most 2g and 3g services (some SMS and voice connections) have known vulnerabilities. Unfortunately not just software security vulnerabilities, but also bad actors that can lease access within that system. That combination can allow for attacks within the underlying systems that make the target completely unaware for periods of time that their messages and voice calls are being intercepted, including 2 factor authentication content over SMS.

Veritasium has a cool video about it. https://youtu.be/wVyu7NB7W6Y

If possible, it is best to not rely on SMS authentication for privacy.

A 12-year-old girl is accused of smothering her 8-year-old cousin over an iPhone

I definitely agree that whatever decision the courts make, this person is not going to be properly rehabilitated via the sentence.

I obviously have no expertise in the matter, but I really do wonder what the appropriate "consequence" would be for something like this. They're still a child, basically at 12. But they committed to doing something VERY permanent. Do they have any understanding for what it is they've done? I would think they have a semblance of it. Emotions, hormones, and everything about a pre-pubescant can run hot at those ages, but this was an egregious failure for self control.

I'm very likely just being a fence sitter about it. Murdering someone over something petty like this would be an obvious charge for an assumed adult. Just hard to wrap my head around it when I see news like this I guess.

What's up with the guy in a white t-shirt,(Olympic shooter maybe?) guy being popular in every meme on Lemmy right now?

From what I can tell, it's a juxtaposition thing. Many of the other shooters used in memes have stances that appear outlandish, and have gear that looks a little strange, almost trending towards ridiculous. The man you're referencing, Yusuf looks incredibly casual in comparison. His stance is at least recognizable as a shooting stance (even if it's almost appears too casual), his hand is in his pocket, and he isn't visibly using any of the gear that many other shooters are.

I haven't kept track very closely outside of the memes, so I can't comment on Yusuf's performance in comparison to the others, but the memes paint his character to be someone that gets the task done with minimal resources, where the others are given the role of a "tryhard" for the sake of the meme.

Evidently the imagery of these competitive shooters resonated with enough people that Lemmy had a small breakdown, but I always love to see my Lemmy feed trend into one topic for an evening or two. We all remember the beef stroganoff incident.

Satisfactory's biggest patch since launch makes it friendlier for Steam Deck players: 'It's no exaggeration to say this update includes more than a year's worth of work'

I know I'm literally saying this to the Satisfactory community, but I'm curious if anyone else feels the same - this is a game I've come back to time and time again for a couple of years now. I don't know what's wrong with me, but I always start a new save every time, and get though most of the tech teirs before slowly playing it less and less (around aluminum production seems to be where it happens).

So, in other words, I guess I'm reinstalling this again. I'm sure my next factory will be perfect on the first try this time. Updates to splitter and merger snaps for belts and elevators might be the next linear conveyor-level QoL I needed.

Day 12 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Now I'm just curious about you, after seeing your posts. I've seen a couple of games come up more than once, but a pretty wide variety of games that usually take a lot of time to get through. Have you been hopping back and forth between some "new to you" games while you come back to Skyrim every now and again? I've seen a fair amount of RPGs of some variety, are those your mainstay for games?
