What has loyalty gotten you?

This question is so fundamentally wrong, but such a good example of what is wrong with most people.

Most people don't actually have an ethical system. They simply substitute tribal dynamics or what 'feels' right in the moment for ethics.

Loyalty, and most virtues, aren't about what you get from them. Thinking of them in those terms is itself an example of the lack of any ethical system.

Loyalty, and most virtues, are about having a system of values that you think are right, and then living up to those values. Even when it is inconvenient. Especially when it is inconvenient.

If a system of beliefs, like religion, is something you espouse to believe in then you live those ideals. Otherwise you're just there to feel like you belong in a group.

The Very Hungry Kittypillar

I really really hate the meme jokes about brain worms.

The joke that RFK Jr. Has brain worms is actually better than the real situation.

Basically, he claimed he had brain worms in court to justify not giving his now ex-wife alimony, due to his supposed cognitive issues. He blacklisted her in their town and financially fucked with her until she committed suicide.

No medical evidence was given for the supposed brain worm.

The joke about him having a brain worm is cover for what he really did, which was much worse.

ADL defends Nazi salute

Reply in thread

This was a literal investigated criminal case, this isn't supposition.

Your serious doubts is nothing more than ignorance.

EDIT: Another thing that is not supposition. Israel was one of the final supporters of Apartheid South Africa. They supported them even after the US stopped.

Pick up a history book.

And Yes, Israel has just spent the last 15 months committing what every human rights organization has declared a genocide. Can't get more nazi'ish then committing a genocide.

Just Stop Oil protester, 78, has jail term extended after no suitable tag found

They didn't.

You just didn't like the translation of your words into their consequences.

Most Nazi civilians weren't evil in any special unique way. They just didn't care about any moral framework more than they cared about not having the status quo broken.

It's an aspect of the banality of evil.

Your attitude, sadly the most common attitude, is the main driving force for the most heinous of outcomes.

Here it is being used to justify the literal end of the fucking human race and turning our planet into Venus.

Discord lowers free upload limit to 10MB: “Storage management is expensive”

Reply in thread

I'm a sys admin/devops engineer, and yes, storage is far more expensive then people realize.

This is the very definition of enshittification.

EDIT: To those downvoting:

Do you actually know what the definition of enshittification is? Apparently not.

Enshittification (alternately, crapification and platform decay) is a pattern in which online products and services decline in quality. Initially, vendors create high-quality offerings to attract users, then they degrade those offerings to better serve business customers, and finally degrade their services to users and business customers to maximize profits for shareholders.

It doesn't matter that the cost of storage is a real thing. They gave things of value away for free to grow their user base and to try and capture network effects. Now that they think they have that they are taking away ( or decreasing ) the free stuff of value they gave away.

The fact that storage has value is literally an important part of enshitification.

It wouldn't be enshitification if they gave away free stuff that wasn't valuable.

‘The Movement to Convince Biden to Not Run Is Real’

Reply in thread

You weren't paying attention. Many states banned anyone else from the ballot, even though there wasn't cause for that by the rules.

There were no debates (Something that would have given Democratic party members time to decide if they thought Biden was electable.)

Some states were told their delegates wouldn't count.

There was no fair Democratic Party primary. If you think there was you were either not paying attention, or you didn't want a fair primary in the first place.

This problem is a problem of the Democratic Part{EDIT}y's own making.

Opinion: I'm an American doctor who went to Gaza. What I saw wasn't war — it was annihilation

Reply in thread

That's the point of 'The Banality of Evil' and the Milgram experiments.

There is nothing special or different about the Israelis, or for that matter the Nazis. They were normal people.

The only silver lining about the Milgram experiments is that they showed that if people were aware that the default nature of human beings was to follow orders, no matter how horrible, they would be inoculated, somewhat, to following those orders.

Please note, Israel is committing an unjustified horrible fucking genocide. None of this is an excuse for that. But you better recognize that there isn't too much that differentiates you from those snipers, because if you don't recognize that then you could be one of them in the future.

The Republicans Should've Faced Way More Criticism During The 2024 Presidential Campaign

Reply in thread

Are you implying there was a Democratic presedential primary that didn't break it's own rules to make sure Biden was the only candidate on the ballot (edit) in many states (/edit)?

If so, you're living in a fantasy.

This is the one-two step for Democratic party apologists.

  1. Blame leftists for their lack of representation in the party.

  2. Rig the processes to make sure that the left wing of the party has no internal representation.

  3. Goto step one.

The best part of this dance from their view? Internal party politics and processes are boring, and the media won't cover it when they cheat.
