The Game Awards 2023: List of Winners

Congratulations to all the winners - they're all very well deserved! No surprises here (though very pleased) to see BG3 clean house.

It's very unfortunate for Insomniac that SM2 didn't get any wins, but it goes to show how crazy good this year has been for gamers!

These leaked PlayStation stats explain Sony’s live service obsession

While a successful live service can be a money printer for a developer, a failed one is a stone around the neck while they're obligated to support it, and only decrease trust when they inevitably get shut down after a year or so.

Honestly, everyone scrambling for a piece of the GaaS pie has caused saturation and fatigue. People don't have enough time and/or money to engage with all these games.

IMO, Sony would be better served by dialling back the budgets of their single player games if that's the biggest factor, rather than chasing the GaaS white whale.

Ok, the clutter itself is bugging me now. It's all identical, right?

The moment Starfield lost its shine for me was when I went into my second frozen lab and the layout was identical. I realised that the procedural dungeons I had been expecting were complete BS and that only quest related stuff would be unique, which was very disappointing.

I was expecting procedurally linked cells, a la Dead Cells or Diablo. Yes, individual sections would be recognisable, but how they're put together would be different each time.

God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla FREE DLC

Reply in thread

I think there's a distinction - I would consider an "update" with new content to be something minor (such as BG3's recent epilogue content). "Free DLC" to me is a much more hefty addition, such as the Godmaster DLC for Hollow Knight.

(Disclaimer: I've not watched this trailer since I'm at work)

Biden closes gap on Trump but third-party candidates pose danger, polls show

or any democracy for that matter

Australia sends its regards.

It is really nice knowing that I can safely vote for our "green" party without risking our conservative party getting in because the centre-left party loses too many votes.

Also, voting being mandatory (and very accessible) and on a Sunday for federal elections is such a game changer for ensuring participation.

Hopefully you guys can get reforms in at some point.

Nominees for Game of The Year at TGA 2023

I think it's quite telling that Starfield only showed up once, despite being one of the most hyped games of the year. Skyrim and Fallout 3 were both strong GOTY, IIRC, so to me it feels like Bethesda have lost their way.

So many strong games here! I'm a little biased since I've not played many of these, but I'm hoping BG3 cleans house.
