Missouri Rejects Rape Exceptions, Senator Says Forced Birth Can Be ‘the Greatest Healing Agent’

From the article: "Also in 2022, a Michigan Republican candidate said he told his daughters “If rape is inevitable, you should just lie back and enjoy it.”

I do not think I've ever read a statement from someone that has pissed me off so fucking quickly. Someone needs to check on this man's daughters and fucking take them from him, forcibly if necessary, ASAP, and then put them with a family who legitimately loves them.

FUCK I HATE THIS TIMELINE.

Calls for J.D. Vance to resign after he admits that he 'created' pet-eating story about immigrants

This fucking lie ended a conversation (that started about plumbing of all things!) between myself and my father with me screaming at him for being racist and him hanging up on me saying "Enjoy your fucking liberal life. Im hanging up now. Love you. Bye."

As a rule, I do NOT speak politics with my family because theyre HUGE MAGAts and Im the exact opposite. But my father is one who HAS to bait me. He just...its in his fucking DNA code or something. And usually I grit my teeth through it, but I couldnt this time.

Ughhhhh this pisses me off so much because I really thought that he would snort and roll his eyes at THIS lie at least. But no. He unironically believes this shit. Its fucking dangerous.

check it before you wreck it

Finally! My time on Lemmy has come! For those who do not know, the phrase "Who Gon' Check Me Boo?" was uttered by none other than Sheree Spring-Summer-Winter-Joggers Whitfield, of Real Housewives of Atlanta fame, while arguing with her party planner during the Season 2 premiere in 2009. The phrase temporarily shut down the man's argument, before the conflict then escalated to the point that both were shouting at one another, leading to the iconic vein popping out of Ms. Bone-Collector Whitfield's neck.

(I know that's not the point of this post, but the Bravo communities are the thing I miss the most about the other bad place, so when I see a RH reference, I fucking jump on it)

Disgusting that anybody would destroy a person’s life like this

As horrendous as this story is (and yes, this man does deserve to get compensation for what he's been through), I agree.

This feels like the very subversive thing that someone with a nefarious mindset would pull to push vulnerable people more into the "manosphere" type mindset.

It may seem innocuous at first, "OH! It's just a user sharing a story that factually happened!"

But it's the pulling up of an old article about an enraging topic while women's rights are being stripped away/we're seeing a huge surge of Andrew Tate-style influences being held up by the younger male generation. This type of stuff absolutely normalizes hatred/mistrust of women by the redpill/blackpill fans.

4-star generals side with Smith, tell SCOTUS Trump immunity claim is 'assault' on democracy

A group of retired Generals/Admirals are the ones who convinced Congress to repeal DADT back in 2011 so our LGBTQ+ brethren could openly serve.

I understand that the entire Government has changed since then, and it's an entirely different branch of the Government that they're petitioning, but fuck, this gives me hope.

These people do still have some sort of influence, and they're attempting to use it for good. That makes me happy.

Mark Cuban is ‘proud to pay’ $275.9 million in taxes

Reply in thread

I mean, I kind of like the fact that he's flexing paying his taxes to other billionaires, signaling that he's better than them for doing so. It would be kind of nice if every billionaire started flexing on one another like this and started trying to one up one another to showcase "whose the better person" sort of thing. Pipe dream, I know, but a girl CAN dream after all.

Biden has decided to keep Space Command in Colorado, rejecting move to Alabama, officials tell AP

YES OMG GET FUCKED TUBERVILLE, YOU FUCKING PRICK!

I've said before I was terrified of the DoD capitulating to this fucking sorry excuse for a human being, but I'm glad to see his actions have had negative consequences for him specifically.

Ugh, even if this wasn't done to protect the younger generation of women joining the armed forces, I'll take it. It's one less location that they can be sent to (yes of course Maxwell exists, as well as Scott in MO and alllllllll the fucking bases in Texas and Florida, so it's a small win, but it IS a win)

A leisurely trip

Conversely, I, as an American who had the opportunity to spend a few months in Germany, was surprised at how close all the countries were.

Great culture in all the places I went (Brussels and Prague were my two standout favorites!) Traveling was hella cheap. The food was fire everywhere I went. The architecture was INCREDIBLE. And the knowledge that you could go to the hospital for less than $100 was nuts. Don't even get me started on how legitimately cool it is to sit in a 1000 year old pub.

I didn't want to come back. I nearly cried when I got the return flight info.

It still shocks me to tell people "Yeah, I lived in Germany for a bit and some weekends we would fuck off to France."

Black national anthem sends MAGA into meltdown

Reply in thread

Bruh I got into such an intense argument with my parents because I defended the BLM protests. They came at me hardcore for "violence" and "destruction of property". I asked them what the hell protestors were supposed to do to draw attention to their cause, and they told me that they would have respected a "peaceful protest".

I then pointed out the fact that Colin Kaepernick's career still hasn't recovered, and that they themselves haven't watched an NFL game since then...so no, they wouldn't. My dad then of course whipped out his favorite "insult": "Fucking Liberal", and then proceeded to tell me that I have no respect for the flag.

The inability for them to think critically is absolutely astounding.

Black man who spent 44 years in prison before he was exonerated gets record $25M settlement

Reply in thread

Bruh. Quoted from the article:

"They said that the prosecution’s main piece of evidence was the victim’s identification of Long weeks after the attack and that it was "the product of a suggestive identification procedure arranged by the police to target Long."

There were also numerous pieces of evidence from the scene, including suspect hair and 43 fingerprints, that could have helped exonerate him, according to his attorneys. The material, which they said did not belong to Long, was tested by investigators but not disclosed. The attorneys also accused Concord police officers of giving false testimony about the evidence at Long's trial."

It sounds like she was led by the police, and all evidence pointing to the contrary was tossed out.

‘IRL Fakes:’ Where People Pay for AI-Generated Porn of Normal People

Reply in thread

I don't know why you're being down voted. Sure, it's unfortunately been happening for a while, but we're just supposed to keep quiet about it and let it go?

I'm sorry, putting my face on a naked body that's not mine is one thing, but I really do fear for the people whose likeness gets used in some degrading/depraved porn and it's actually believable because it's AI generated. That is SO much worse/psychologically damaging if they find out about it.

Pornhub disables website in Texas after AG sues for not verifying users’ ages

Reply in thread

I tried it, got the block message, and then tried it with a Kansas City VPN just to see if it would work. It did.

I really liked the message though. Texas legislators are dumb af if they don't think that this is going to push people to use websites without ID requirements and less stringent rules on content creation/safety.

I mean, they were dumb af before this, but they're extra dumb now too.
