In wake of Windows 10 retirement, over 780,000 Windows users skip Win 11 for Linux, says Zorin OS developers — distro hits unprecedented 1 million downloads in five weeks
Reply in thread
You can achieve the same thing with zero effort on any distro because DEs and themes aren't tied to a distro
No, YOU can. But for the average Windows user this is far from "zero effort". Just the fact that Zorin OS will automatically run Windows executables through wine without the user having to set it up is a huge deal for people coming from Windows who want their PC to "just work" without fiddling around

Seems incredibly unlikely at the moment. It would need a miracle

Revolut, McDonald's, and Authy have banned the use of GrapheneOS.
Time to switch away from Auth I guess. Not even using GrapheneOS cause I have a Samsung phone, but this is not acceptable

Microsoft kills official way to activate windows without internet
Reply in thread
I don't see how this particular thing is an issue. You don't need to activate Windows during the setup. You can skip activation, update the driver, and then activate windows afterwards

Touchscreens Are Out, and Tactile Controls Are Back
Reply in thread
Touchscreens are great to have, controlling Android Auto or Apple Carplay with physical buttons like you have to do in a Mazda is a nightmare.
The problem is when the touchscreen is used as a replacement for physical controls, instead of an addition. Stuff like controlling your climate control should not be exclusively controlled through the touchscreen
And don't even get me started about VWs stupid decision to put touch controls on the steering wheel. At least they backpedaled on that decision pretty quickly

If you are coming from Reddit: YSK that Lemmy and Piefed have no karma. Don't delete your posts.
Even if you're on Reddit, deleting your post/comment because of downvotes is cowardly. Is your ego so fragile you won't stand by your own words because of imaginary internet points?

They are right leaning conservatives that happily bend over for CDU, but pretend to be a workers party.
Calling "Die Linke" communist is also extremely disingenuous. Taxing the rich and capping rent are not communism

but it seems nowadays, even Chromebooks have 16 GB of RAM and an i5.
That is extremely far from the truth. Yes, there are a handful of Chromebook with such specifications, but the vast majority has an underpowered ARM chip and 4gb of ram
