Juste received this love letter from reddit's admins
A few days ago I didn't have a single reason to leave reddit. Yet, with so many reasons now, here I am, and I look forward to lemmy and kbin.

Mastodon's official stance on Threads
FOSS is the ultimate form of software. It's like life, it will just get copied and forked and modified, and it will continue to evolve because it's been set free in the world.
Yeah, Facebook might embrace-extend-extinguish the Fediverse. But on the other hand, it's not the end of the world if they do. Right now, we have a decentralized platform to post, talk and interact on. If that changes, we will create another one
To me, the most interesting part about this is that the Fediverse is even on Facebook's Meta's radar. It's tiny. Do they see it as a possible competitor?

Linux phones are more important now than ever
I'll consider a Linux phone as long as the following are met:
If these are met, I'll buy whatever is available in a year or two.

Can we organize AMAs to help Lemmy/Kbin grow?
Reply in thread
Is this now widely acknowledged as a problem? I don't see a problem with that kind of fragmentation tbh. Especially since there was fragmentation of that kind in reddit too Maybe Lemmy/kbin just need a reliable way to search across instances.

Fairphone 4—the repairable, sustainable smartphone—is coming to the US
Fairphone was literally my top choice before I bought my current smartphone, until I found out I couldn't get it. So this is great, hopefully they still sell it whenever I update my phone (which won't happen for a few years). Several other people have already commented something along these lines, but I'm just happy about it.

If you speak a language that has a formal 'you', when do you use it?
In Mexican Spanish, you would default to formal 'you' in most public interactions (although not all people do this). You would also use formal language when talking to a teacher or an authority.
Note that the informal and formal 'you' in plural are the same.
Fun fact: formal language in Spanish is more than just formal 'you'.
E.g., if you're working at a fancy shop and wanted to ask a customer "how may I help you?", you would say "¿en qué le puedo ayudar?" (formal) instead of "¿en qué te puedo ayudar?" (informal). This question does not have 'you' in Spanish.

Why is this being downvoted? It's factually true.
I'd love actual open source training somehow. But at the moment I don't think an asynchronous training mechanism that would enable this exists, given that running the flagship models on even a small batch of data requires massive compute power.

Good idea. I'll probably give it a few hours to see if anyone else here has any ideas on how to make sure it's not on my end, then I'll open an issue.

I'm also a kagi user and share the same feelings about it. Definitely worth it. Specially since I know my search data is not used to bias search results or sell ads on the search results.

Free and open source RTS 0 A.D. release 28 "Boiorix" is live
0 A.D. is a solid one, def give it a good try. I go back to it every so often for multiplayer skirmishes.
Haven't played it in a year or two, I wonder if the 'high unit count lag' in multiplayer is gone.
