I've had constant issues with people on Lemmy being casually racist. Down voting attempts to ask others to rethink using slurs that harm people, being called thin skinned for having issues with racist content.

There's a lot of that in this thread.

However after posting a thread to "A Boring Dystopia" and attempting to do more than simply calling for the deaths of anyone who joins ICE and explain the reasoning for that, I saw a blatantly racist post and called it out.

The result was /u/givesomefucks banning me permanently for the community, while doing and saying nothing about the racist post. For the crime of calling out racism, I was banned for... racism. And "slap fights" for logically trying to understand an issue and trying to avoid insulting others.

Lemmy has somehow evolved into an echo chamber so unwelcoming of any words that don't match the scripted seminar so many people here seem to be quoting from that it pushes away liberal leftist educated black people.

So many people here seem to be simply looking for others they can call out as bigots or nazis or evil that they do it without thought to people who actually support all the same things that they do. It's unhealthy and exhausting.

I don't have the time or energy to spend on a place that actively seems to support casual racism while simultaneously trying to call people bigots for understanding the importance of tolerance in society.

Feel free to down vote. Make sure to switch to your alts. That's what sane, rational people do when they encounter words and thoughts they don't like.

Oh... no. Wait. That's what an actual bigot does. Someone who's completely intolerant of ideas and opinions other than the ones they like.

I guess that's the actual crux of it. I'm exhausted by the insane level of bigotry from people who see themselves as righteously hunting down bigots. It's ironic in the stupidest possible way.

Because I just had this OCD episode right this evening (I am diagnosed with it), which compelled me to log in and log out of this Lemmy.World account consecutively, on my laptop, in very quick succession (I am typing this out from my Android phone); log in, log out the very instant after, long in again, log out the very instant after that, and so on. So I am logged in and OK on my phone, but I am locked out of my account on my laptop, and the red warning sign says "too many requests, try again later".

Hello, I'm relatively new to Lemmy and not sure how the instance administration works.

I spent around 3 hours writing up a long post for the Mental Health community detailing my personal history of symptoms, the issues I had with diagnosis, and the understanding of the root causes of AI that led me to realize what was causing my trouble with the medication I was on as well as why symptoms that were actually caused by ADHD had been diagnosed as Major Depressive Disorder or the like more than once.

Because the post got very long, I decided to break it into sections with headers and some bullets to make it easier to read.

The post had several replies that were all normal discussion on the issue, and violated no rules of Lemmy.world or that community. One of the two mods, presumably u/givesomefucks, removed the post without warning and listed the reason as "AI rambling about serious medication and how the doctors don’t know better."

I tried to message the two mods listed and got no response from either. Since I was in the middle of multiple conversations in the replies, I created a new post questioning deleting a long post in what they describe as a safe space to share and discuss mental health issues.

While continuing conversations in that new post, I got a popup that told me I was banned from the community. The reason they put in the modlog this time was "medical misinformation."

Both of those modlog entries are false. The first is an assumption they made at a glance. They then deleted that post based only on their assumption without bothering to read the post first.

The second is a blatant lie. There is nothing at all in either post that is medical misinformation. In the first post I even took the time to explain the various symptoms that can present depending on which neurotransmitter a person has a deficiency in the availability of as well as why my medication that targeted only one of those neurotransmitters was causing me to be tired even though it was a stimulant, and how a severe deficiency of both neurotransmitters can be diagnosed as depression since those symptoms aren't commonly associated with ADHD.

All of that information is accurate and all of that information can be verified.

In the second post, the one that I was banned from the community for, I had never even given medical information in the post. It was entirely calling them out for deleting a post without bothering to even read it in what they claim to be a mental health safe space.

You'll note that one of the comments is a user saying that the entire lemmy.world instance isn't a safe place for any community.

The Mental Health community averages one single post per day. It's not a lot to ask of a moderator, and something they volunteered for. This is not how to grow a new communication platform.

It has now been 2 hours since my first post was deleted and 30 minutes since I was banned from the community. I have messages both moderators twice now, and neither of them has bothered to reply.

If the moderators of the lemmy.world Mental Health community are unable to keep up with that whole post per day by actually reading it and communicating with the poster if they see an issue, and they need to rely on removing posts based on blind assumptions and then instead of correcting their mistake doubling down by banning users based on complete lies then I volunteer to take over as moderator of that community.

What hardware does lemmy world use?

I'm just curious how sustainable the whole lemmy operation is.

A single user has created 35 different porn communities in the last month. There are then seemingly endless alt accounts that post some random screenshot from a porn site with what looks like ai generated titles. Is there anything that can be done about this?

I tried to join Lemmy.Palestine but every time the content warning notification comes up and I click ‘Continue’ it just keeps on popping up again and again forever? Why?

I've asked mods who seem to have added that feature in their community, but have received zero responses so far.

Saw this post with similar errors a week ago, so I don't seem to be alone in this.

Over about the last 2 weeks, I frequently encounter error code 500 messages when trying to add pictures.

It is intermittent, but will sometimes persist for a while. It doesn't seem to be the photos, because if I keep at it, they will eventually upload and post properly. Sometimes it's just one or two errors, and this morning I eventually took a break for 15 minutes after repeated attempts frustrated me, and then some pics would upload fine, while others still gave errors.

I saw it's not the same error every time either. I made sure to grab these 2, but there may be more, maybe an error 27 also, I thought I saw a 27 anyway while clicking too fast.

The three mods have all been inactive for 2+ years. They’ve been mentioned in comments and posts recently and no responses from any of them. It’s a somewhat active community and deserves to have someone to keep an eye on it.

Once the post was loaded shortly after its publishing, in a local client, the client returned a "no image" placeholder.
When checked the raw response, the endpoint sent the following:

It seems like a container/virtual machine, with the custom hostname of pictrs is not available at certain times on port 8080, as if restarting shortly or too busy right the moment the post is created, possibly proxied within containers/local network where custom DNS resolved of Docker/Podman/etc. or similar systems exist. In result, "times out" on DNS or another transfer protocol context.

With some time passed, a few minutes, with the post reloaded for another request, the image was successfully received!

Update: It appears that this dorkus, and I feel I can now use that term with some degree of justification, has inserted a block of malicious javascript into every page load of his website that attempts to DDoS the dbzer0 instance using the viewer's computer and internet connection to do so:

Given that in his latest "quitting forever" message he also called out .world as an instance he has some manner of grievance with, it's not outside of the realm of possibility he'll target us as well at some point even though we're not the primary target of his ire just at this moment. Now that he's literally pushing client-side malware, even if its in an amateurish fashion, I think it's really, really imperative that lemmy.world stops hosting his frontend and code.

I'm surprised no one has raised this point yet, or maybe they have and I just haven't figured out where they posted it. Possibly this is the wrong place to ask. If so, please do let me know.

I assume most non-casual users are now familiar with the kerfuffle involving the Tesseract UI and its developer, vis-a-vis secretly adding an obfuscated and absurdly draconian inbuilt block list that silently filters out entire communities, instances, content containing keywords that are not aligned with the developer's political bent, and also singles out hundreds of individual users by name for the same treatment. (Including myself, but I find that part more amusing than worrisome, really.)

I see that the lemmy.world sidebar and the pinned post in this very community no longer mention the Tesseract UI, which I presume dates from the time last year when its developer... How do we phrase this diplomatically? Threw a wobbler during which he closed his instance to the public. Or maybe it never mentioned it to begin with, and I'm having a Mandela effect experience.

Regardless, the Tesseract UI is still accessible at the subdomain t.lemmy.world, which I assume means the code is still being hosted on lemmy.world's servers. This is listed as version 1.4.41 but since the developer has now apparently either deleted, moved, or closed the Github page for the project (the link in the Tesseract header is dead, for instance) I can't readily verify if this is even a current version because up until now I haven't been paying attention.

The developer's response to the recent criticism over this, readable here, can be handily boiled down with statement near the very beginning that he considers Tesseract "no longer a general purpose 'anything goes' client." Instead perhaps we should take it as read that it is a personal hobby-horse designed explicitly for his own preferences and no one else's.

TL;DR: Should we take him at his word, and thus are we really sure this is something we want to be hosing on lemmy.world now?

As one of the individuals who was successful at creating a few games (8 or more) both 2d and 3d, I'm running into some serious issues when it comes to using the new AI Helper tool.

Firstly, the system keeps running a ticket-based que system that keeps on locking out the user from making any further changes. This has lead to many projects being completely stalled, overall discontinued, and has provided a headache of a way to address minor issues in website or game development because the system just refuses to do anything for hours. Network status says that the network is normal, but then cannot input anything with the helper tool.

For my current game Questmore, I've found the tool to be inadequate to designing basic shape or tools; sword look like a twisted cone, a boat paddle, a house, the blade base is perpendicular to the sword hilt... No one will be winning any wars with these kinds of sword. The older model, while pretty terrible, had the models at least looking somewhat correct. AI Helper has gotten many project farther, but I am really struggle to see how that is an improvement when the designed are getting either outright wrong, or take to long to improve since there's little three or five request in a day you can make.

I like that it can now attach documents, text files, java script, and even images, but I'm finding that is still struggles with some of the same issues as the previous version of the AI Helper. I look at some of the cumbersome text it makes, and it just inefficient at fixing basic issues, though sometime it does well... It's just not working out if I need to fix something basic in the program and it take one of the valuable turns to address something simple before I get locked out.

There are many users here that haven't got that far, but at some point, this system is so poorly designed, that it's just turning into a rendering nightmare when the project gets too large. To be frank, AI Helper need dramatic upgrade or an overhaul altogether in order for it be useful for anything that is beyond a ms-dos game or program.

It's just not looking good.
