For a long time I have wanted to get chickens, so I decided to do something about it, and instead of buying them, I am going to try and raise them myself in the hope that I will learn more as I go. I know absolutely nothing, and am hoping not to be bogged down with a plethora of information. I have an incubator - I candled two eggs I bought at a market yesterday and put them in. No, I don't expect anything to come from them, it is more to test how to use the incubator. I candled 6 and in those two I saw a small spot floating around. So I ran with it.

I will be buying a clutch of fertilised eggs. Will I need a brooder (summer) how big, and could I use a wooden wine case with an infrared lamp?

I think I will build a chicken coop, as they seem fairly expensive around here, are there any plans that somebody would recommend (easy to follow, basic but good).

What are good feeds, what can I give them and what should I not give them, that I may not know.

Finally, do i need mats, bedding and what else am I missing?

I got this email from my ISP in Germany. I don't know what to do about it, or where to ask on Lemmy (all the tech communities seem to be about news and info, not to ask any questions)

I have two phones (Xiaomi and Poco), two iPads, two Devolo repeaters, one Tenda repeater, a PC and and Android TV Box.. I suspect it may be the Android box I think it is rooted and I will put AFWall+ on it when I get home.

I haven't yet been able to check the IP address that they sent. But does anyone know if these emails are legit, and what to do about them if they are? I will obviously have to try and find the culprit and try to clean it, but the IP addresses look different on my router (192.168.XXX.XXX)

This is an automated abuse complaint regarding suspection of device infection within your network behind IP address 210.XXX.XXX.XXX

Our isolated systems has received multiple unsolicited incoming connections from an IP address under your control (abuse-mailbox as per RIR database). All unsolicited connections reported below have completed three-way handshake procedure defined per Transmission Control Protocol (TCP). This ensures that our evidence was not tampered upon any external party posessing a source IP address spoofing capability, because three-way handshake procedure requires both receiving (device within our network) and sending (device within your network) parties to receive reply of another party to complete handshake.

The aforementioned isolated systems within our network are hosted at unused IP address space and are implemented as a TCP listener, so that we can be sure our evidence actually covering "unsolicited" and "not spoofed" activity.

The activity we are reporting is often referred to as "service probing" or "banner grabbing". Unlike typical "port scan" type of abuse complaints you might receive, our complaints are not induced by a single or multiple TCP packets with SYN flag set. Instead, as was mentioned previously, three-way handshake procedure is required. To eliminate possible false-positive alerts caused by human typo, abuse complaint is generated only upon having four (4) distinct successful connections as per (Source IP; Destination IP; Destination Port) tuple.

To minimize "Internet background noise" our network observes, the reported IP address was temporarily banned. Do not worry, it will be unblocked automatically soon. If it is the first report for this IP address within 90 days, block lasts 24 hours. Each following report within this timeframe extends blocking duration for 24 hours.

As for implications for your network, we suspect that device within your network is infected with a malware. However, sometimes there are another reasons, namely:

• device hosts publicly accessible proxy or VPN (either intentionally, due to   software misconfiguration or due to usage of "proxyware" type of software);
• device is infected with a malware (for example, networking worm, most frequently   this happens with IoT and DVR/IP cameras);
• device (for example, server) is used by an malicious actor for exploitation   purposes (see "unethical hacking");
• device is used by a legitimate Internet security researchers team that can be   clearly attributed using Forward-confirmed reverse DNS (FCrDNS).

Given exact reason in this situation, you would like either to communicate with your client to address this issue as per Terms of Service of your organization or notify us of legitimate nature of this activity. When it comes to legitimate security researchers, we are always co-operating to whitelist your networks as long as FCrDNS is valid.

Please note that we are providing hosting services, hence you are strongly discouraged from blocking any of the destination IP addresses mentioned below.

If these complaints are considered irrelevant by your team for any reason, do not hesitate to let us know by replying to this letter. We will exclude your abuse-mailbox from receiving these abuse complaints in the future.

As was mentioned previously, the table above lists all unsolicited TCP connections that have completed three-way handshake. This prevents us from producing false-positive alerts. It is worth to note that we aren't closing the connection immediately after three-way handshake was completed, thus you should see communication from your sFlow monitoring. If you are using NetFlow or IPFIX, you should be able to see all four (4) flows. If you don't implement any of those, do not hesitate to ask us for more detailed logs.

Are there any decent (Private or otherwise) payment portals that anyone could recommend, that allow customers to pay cash, but it could convert and deposit into a crypto wallet, preferably BTC on the fly, with as low fees as possible? I thought I saw one about a year ago but never bookmarked it.

Any recommended payment portals at all. Ones that require ID and business info to setup, ones that don't require any info but are safe and legit etc.. All that can allow the user to pay cash for crypto. Thanks.

If I was running a Vanilla forum and wanted to migrate over to a new lemmy instance, e.g. forum.com to lemmy.forum.com Could I migrate the entire forum over while keeping the same categories/sub categories as communities I guess, and bringing all of the old threads with them? If it is possible, would it be difficult?

I was looking for this community and just noticed that the latest post is 3 months ago. Is Raccoon no longer? I found it while I was having issues with another app a few months ago and I find it great. Recently I noticed that Raccoon doesn't appear as an option to open lemmy links when I click on them on my phone. Also, while I was looking for this community I noticed that the search function doesn't work. If Raccoon is no longer being maintained it would be a pity, because I prefer it over the other few that I have tried. I just find it more comfortable to use. Hopefully it's still going. 🤞

As I am sure most of the world is aware of the monopoly that Ticketmaster have regarding events, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to defeat them little by little or otherwise.

I have seen many campaigns, including one from before live nation was formed, in an attempt to prevent it. The juggernaut that it is, easily bats away any attempt to take it on, they are not even afraid of the US government trying to break up the monopoly.

They have been caught many times globally breaking and bending laws, and have a very unethical form of practice. Ticket prices just keep going up along with nonsense charges.

Would love to see ideas to help defeat them.

EDIT - Would lobbying politicians help? (Not sure if lobbying is the correct word). I mean, would having a pre-written letter template being sent to the correct politicians work if a load of people were to sign it and send it in, similar to the fightchatcontrol.eu site.

I was looking around for a VPN and came across these. They are slightly more expensive than some of the more well known VPNs but cheaper than Mullvad and claim to offer similar levels of privacy. Hoping to hear from somebody who has used them or has an active subscription.

Sorry. I know that this or a similar question has been asked many times, and trying to find a decent answer i get redirected to reddit and blocked because of my VPN. I am looking for the preferred version of the above OS's for installing Docker based on easiness and stability/reliability once installed. Is there such a distro as DockerOS or a Distro with Docker preinstalled? I thought I read something like that last year when I was threatening to pull my finger out the first time and get something up and running, but now I am not sure whether or not I have imagined it.

Hey, I have my own 2DS modded/hacked for a long time, I mostly only play CTGP 7 on my own/online. But that is just a result of neglect over time. I just followed the guide to hack my nephews 3DS and so far only have CTGP 7 on it too, (I literally did it tonight) and looking for any games where we could play as part of a team, or against each other using mods or any multiplayer that is still available. I have to get him a larger SD card, as he only has 2GB card.
Are there many/any other games that we could still play locally? Or together online?

Weird question maybe, but I don't think I ever liked the taste of fish, except when I was young. I vaguely remember eating fish fingers and (I think) plaice. But then I stopped and never went back to it. I dislike the smell, I find salmon bland (although that may have been the salmon I tasted once). Are there any particular fish that would make the crossover from chicken to fish easier? Or any recipes that don't disguise the taste of the fish too much, but make it more palatable for somebody that isn't crazy about the taste? I see the health benefits and would love to just get stuck in, but there seems to be a block with the associated smell and I guess a one off bad one that put me off eating it. I picked up cod in the supermarket today, and then decided I should ask here first...😁 So hopefully I get a mixture of answers, but mostly some helpful. Thanks for reading.

I downloaded the TG4 player tonight for the first time since before lockdown. TG4 produce and air some of the best TV in ireland (most of imo). The player was always decent, always better than the RTE player, but fck me. ... The latest version - last updated Nov 4th 2024 according to the Android Play Store, is close to perfect. Installed it on a Formuler box first, then on an old android TX3, and finally on a Huawei M5 Lite. Flawless. Press play and it plays, pause and it pauses. Zero buffering. Live TV perfect. Subtitles? Yep. That's standard for every TV Player. Then I tried RTE Player. What a clunky honking heap of shite.

That's all.

Anybody know the cost that both have taken to develop? I have heard RTE player was given to an employee's son or nephew, which probably explains why it's shit, but I have never heard what they cost each company. Does anybody know were to look?

Nephews father passed away, and he just recently got the PS4 back from his fathers partner. He can't sign into the PS4 PSN as we don't know his fathers gmail password (Can get it eventually off google after a fair amount of hoop jumping.)

He doesn't want to delete his fathers account and all of their data that they played together, so we created a new account for him on my phone. We signed up and signed in, and it worked for a second, but then no longer. It asks to sign in and throws up his fathers email address. When we change it to the new one we created and password and we try to login, we get the above error every time. We have also tried with passkey. Is there any easier way to do this?

Google image results are shit on purpose. They used to be better (long before AI). I am guessing that they use the pretence that it's all about porn. But they do it for tools, equipment, stereos etc.. to give bad results. Are they getting paid (yet) to return bad results?

Manipulating search results for profit is something that they already do, and targeted adverts. So it's not that much of a stretch. I was just wondering if it is acknowledged already.
