HBO Max has really turned to shit since the Skydance takeover

Yes, I know that it already started 4 years ago with the Warner Bros Discovery merger, but now it's COMPLETELY fucked.

The "Top 10 Series Today" here in Denmark are as follows:

  • 7 reality shows
  • a true crime show
  • a prequel series
  • a sequel series to a prequel series

Do they even do ANY original scripted shows anymore? You know, the one thing HBO was ever great at?

Or maybe it's the other Danish viewers who just can't get enough of the above crap? Both?

Either way, fuck Skydance, fuck the Ellisons, fuck the Trump kakistocracy, and fuck everyone else responsible for this travesty! 🖕🏼🖕🏼

Japan has a broadcast time system. It can go from 11:00 -> 0:00 -> 13:00

So Japan gets a few things right, IMO, about time. We don't do daylight saving. Places that stay open past midnight will list hours like '20:00 ~ 26:00' to indicate closing at 2am which I feel pretty neutral about. We're in the wrong timezone in my opinion and at least eastern Japan should move to UTC+10 or even UTC+11 so it's not getting light at 3-something in the morning in summer.

However, the thing that drives me nuts is watching TV and it suddenly going to 0:00 at noon. Why?! This is doubly true for those who go 11 -> 0 -> 13 instead of 11 -> 0 -> 1. It's completely irrelevant to anything in my life, so definitely just mildly infuriating to me. Maybe people with shiftwork schedules and blackout curtains might have some confusion.

Japanese broadcasting and newspapers usually use a modified 12-hour notation in which midnight is 午前0時 (0 am) and noon is 午後0時 (0 pm) [. . .]

As of today, I have stopped using Reddit entirely.

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.zip/post/73406944

It all started when my main Reddit account was banned—simply because I posted a comment criticizing the banning of a subreddit—resulting in the immediate loss of an account I’d held for about 4 years, with 102k karma. I appealed, but I received no response—not even a reason for my ban, nor any notification that I had been banned in the first place. I’ve filed appeals repeatedly over the past few months, but today, I’m finally giving up. Fuck Spez and his pathetic, whore of a family. When I submitted my appeals, there wasn’t even any indication that they had gone through; I was just left in total silence, unable to do a thing. I started using an existing alt account for basic tasks, but today, that account was banned too—all because I recommended the non-profit, open-source "VPN Gate" project to someone who was complaining about the mandatory KYC (age verification) requirements being imposed in my country. The only reason I was still using Reddit was out of habit, and I’ve decided it’s time to change some of my habits. Ultimately, this is the inevitable fate of every centralized corporation—without exception. There’s no guarantee that some complete moron won’t end up in charge of any of them. I wish more people realized this. If four years of my effort are being sold off to AI data companies, and everything can be permanently wiped out overnight without a word of warning, then that is, quite simply, data theft. Once again, fuck you, Spez—you absolute piece of shit. If you had even an ounce of courage or integrity, you wouldn’t have imposed those damn API restrictions in 2023 and ruined Reddit. I truly regret the four years I spent here, but it’s better to cut my losses now. Goodbye, you son of a bitch Spez, and your puppet, Reddit...

Got asked for my phone number and name on a transaction using cash

Just bought a 2m section of flexible tube for a gas stove, and the sales clerk asked first for my phone number, to which I replied "I don't have one". Then she asked me for my name, to which I replied "I'll pay in cash". She then insisted it was so "the cashier will call you by name", to which I replied "I'm not giving you my name, I'll pay in cash". [Edit: she apparently got a bit upset when I refused to give info, but ended up entering "no name" according to the receipt]

Am I wrong for not wanting to give personal data for an item paid in cash, in person? No other hardware store ever asks me for my personal info.

How much I judge videos by their thumbnails unsettles me

I get him recommended all the time but his thumbnails and doomer titles don't look appealing (they're all 1/3 his face). In general, if all a Thumbnail/title elicits is some kind of emotionally loaded tired cliche (AI will kill us all, Reading is dead, We were this close to all being hacked by Jia Tan, Overpopulation, Underpopulation, the decay of [Art Form, Daily Pastime, Emotion, Other Noun], We Did Transgressive Investigative Journalism, Epic Scientist Battle of the Equations, you may add to gis list) I don't watch it. If it promises cool news about topic, or personal story, I do. Also, I still hate Enrico Tartarotti for some insufficiently explained reason. (he made a video basically dissing vim at some point, and I don't even know how to use vim)
