This article makes it seem like the problem is the small spaces and not the larger cars.

Seems like the problem is lack of regulations in Singapore. Why are they allowing this to even be a problem by allowing them?

Are all modern cars stupidly big? Japans Kei cars certainly aren't.

The point is that regulation would solve that issue and the Japanese kei cars prove that it can be done.

It's not like Japan bans big cars either? They just have a specific category of small (kei) cars.

Again, the point is that one can regulate the size of cars allowed in cities... and there are modern cars that would solve their parking issues. I'm not arguing about either or not Japan bans big cars.

Yup absolutely, they are growing how cute.

No, what the fuck.

Car bloat is causing parking problems in the US too.

In parking lots near me with smaller slots, I frequently see people just using alternating spaces now.

Earlier this week, I had someone in a large SUV come back to their SUV when I was parked on their passenger side and be unable to have the passengers enter the SUV. I was in my car and offered to pull out so that the passengers could get in, and the driver said no, that he could still get in the other side. He got in, pulled out into the lane down the parking lot, and his passengers boarded there. I have to wonder how frequently this story is playing out elsewhere.

My hospital was built in the 70s. We had a small area for oversize vehicles but every fucking nurse now squeezes in an F150 or Silverado.

Got a feeling future cars will park themselves while empty and pull out so you can get back in.

Except our parking spaces are made for larger cars, so it's not "welcome to America".

Well, some of them are made for larger cars.

I think that the real problem is gonna be lane space. Like, most parking lots could be repainted without too much cost, but widening highways is another story.

I guess if everyone switches to computer-driven cars, that could let them drive at what would maybe be unsafely-close-for-human-driver levels and squeeze a bit more space out, though then everyone would have to buy new cars.
