I thought of that, but even then it seems not worth it. At least it should be gated behind a "hold N seconds while the overlay warns you're about to shutdown"
This should be the default behavior of such functionality. And if someone really wants to do a shutdown without confirmation, there could be special options for it too.
This is actually an option, the function is there, you can bind it to whatever button you want and however you want, long press, short press, double press. It's very powerful tool.
Actual answer: steam provides the flexibility to rebind basically whatever you want to a controller input in order to make abstruse keyboard/mouse commands available via controller. It's less that there's a "shutdown computer" option in a dropdown menu and more that some ingenious prankster realized they could bind the windows shutdown keyboard shortcut.
We used to embed sub7 server in the Office executables on every workstation we'd use so we could do shit like this when someone else was using it later. The high school network admin hated my friend group.
That was used for early anti cheat systems, effectively making your system upload a screenshot. That way admins can see if you had a wallhack or anything else suspicious.
Alt+f4 just closes an application, if no application is open it brings up options to suspend, log out or shut down. It does not immediately shut down your pc.
It's still hillarious to do with kids on MC servers, minecraft uses combinations of F[number] buttons to do some stuff (eg: get the debug screen, toggle advanced tooltips and change gamemode) so kids might belive it lmao
"If you click F3+H you can see more info about an item!" (Legit one)
"I also suggest to click alt+f4 so you can see on the hotbar your armor"

That
is
hilarious
Yeah, that's really fucking funny. I'm sorry, but that's great.
I absolutely love this. What an amazing troll. And "Some Nermal" has me giggling so hard.
What could possibly go wrong…oh.
That's hilarious, I would have never thought to check that
That's fucking hilarious
Why is "shutdown computer" an option in controller layouts? I don't even think that should be an option.
It's for people who use Steam in Big Picture Mode as a console replacement, so that they can shut off their PC without getting up from the couch.

Or just trigger a power options overlay where you manually confirm shutdown
Yeah that's probably even better

That's exactly what it should be.

This is a custom binding though, you can do that through the regular Big Picture menu

ahh, yeah that is an explanation that makes sense. I do think that's a good capability, when you put it that way. Thank you!
Nice flexibility 🤸♂️
Seems like an option that could be useful for accessibility controllers.
Gives me flashbacks to Goldsrc dedicated server operators sending eject CD or Play CD commands to clients which was possible for some reason.

Clearly you aren't trying to hide hardcore porn games from your family and don't need the ultimate panic button
Lol not so much, no.
It's probably just Alt+F4. As you bind keys to the controller inputs, that should be possible.

Why should we cater to people who blindy download controller layouts?
Computers are powerful machines. Learn to use them properly.
Maybe read the whole screenshot
Some Fucking Nermal is my new John Doe
Don't you mean Jon Arbuckle?
Dammit Nermal
Old internet is leaking. That's the kind of jest I'd expect in 2010 xD
Heck, I remember telling people over IRC chat they could get more features from the Alt+F4 menu.

How long have we been crowd sourcing controller layouts?
Quite some time. At least since the first Steam Controller, 2015. Possibly before that.
it's a fairly good idea, ignoring the funny outcomes caused by allowing them to have "shut down" be an option.
Nah, that's some Garfield shit.
Nermal is literally just a kitten who uses him as an insult.
A modern version of alt+f4 to change teams. Or f10 to switch your loadout. Love it.
That nermal, will it ever stop being so cute?
I checked earlier and its not there anymore
Dev probably had to report it. I could see getting bad review bombed for people unaware of
Dat user name
Would this happen on
Windows(Edit: I didn't mean Windows) Linux through Proton too? It’s not OS specific. It’s through Steam’s Controller Profiles which has a Shutdown hook to Windows and Linux distros
Yeah, I read the comments after I asked. It uses Steam Input binding to shutdown.
