Trump declares anyone who uses the term Artificial Intelligence to be ‘The Enemy!’

Latest outburst comes as his push to rebrand the emerging technology increasingly falls flat

Donald Trump on Thursday opened up a new front in his ongoing war against commonly used terms and geographic names by warning that anyone referring to Large Language Models such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Anthropic’s Claude as “Artificial Intelligence” would earn themselves a place on his enemies list.

Writing on Truth Social, he declared that the White House “considers anyone that uses the term, ‘Artificial Intelligence,’ as opposed to the highly accepted new and more accurate term, ‘Super Intelligence,’ THE ENEMY!”

The president’s outburst-cum-veiled threat landed just over a week after he signed an executive order directing executive branch agencies to begin referring to artificial intelligence, which is now embedded across the federal government, as “super intelligence” following a lunch with leaders in the AI industry, including Elon Musk, Sundar Pichai, Dario Amodei and others.

If 'super intelligence' is such a "highly accepted" phrase, why is Trump so insecure about some people not using it? The 'gentleman' doth protest too much.

He invested a lot into it, and it hitting a wall might cause the whole thing to collapse.

Loyalty test. If you don’t use their language you don’t support them.

History tells us this is common with these types of regimes.

Also, Trump is constantly talking to grok now, likely a version of grok tuned to constantly praise him more than the already spineless praise that you normally get from chatbots.

Trump only ever praises people, or things now I guess, that butter him up first.

Well, maybe it's Indians - people joke that "AI" means Actually Indians, given the cases of fraud...

4

My daughter was telling me some awful stuff like they employ people in foreign countries to train AI on detecting child porn. They basically have to watch it all day. So gross knowing human beings have to do shit like this to make AI a reality.

It's probably Musk himself typing his replies most of the time.

Instead of “artificial intelligence” or “super intelligence", how about “Trump-like intelligence”?

Everyone can read into that whatever implications they want.

Trump Intelligence, Trump gas prices, Trump ICE murders. Put his name all over everything. In gold.

Wonder if he'll be dumb enough to fight Apple as well who calls it AI, using the name Apple Intelligence since iOS 18. It got a lot more Integrated with their latest OS's but I don't see them throwing away the name Apple Intelligence so quickly after putting the name in over a billion devices.

This is also ignoring the whole OpenAI thing. Are they gonna change they're name or be "the enemy"

With the kind of greedy pussies that run these outfits, who knows. I could totally seeing them bending the knee because donnie dumbass had a brainfart the one day.

It's weird to live in these times. On the one hand, we are having breakthrough after breakthrough on so many levels. Things are definitely trending in the right direction on so many things over the decades. We may be on the brink of some really incredible progress in so many technological and scientific things.

But then we get a total dipshit like this in the WH, ruining just about everything. And he's just impossibly stupid.

2
kbobabobreply
lemmy.dbzer0.com

They've already bent the knee. GN has a super cut of all the AI bros correcting themselves and using SI.

2

This whole thing is distraction from what he is doing to steal the election, because of high oil prices because what he did to Iran to distract from Epstein files.

I really hate what US media have became. They purposefully report that crap so they don't have to report on things that actually matters.

2

Tbh, when the news of "super intelligence" first came out, I was surprised he didn't just called it "Trump intelligence" or "america intelligence"

5
lemmy.world

Of course, the conman is fuming that nobody cares about changing the name of AI because his latest con depends on the value of all the .si domains they purchase in June going up.

64

If any of those rogue hacker chatbots could snag the rest of the Trump/Epstein files for us, that would be great.

Well it's owner does need to know which day/night is the craziest party on the island.

Stop trying to make super intelligence happen.

It's not going to happen.

It's a computer. It's ones and zeros following a program. It will NEVER have intelligence.

It is technically Artificial Stupidity. There is NO I.Q there.

16
lemmy.world

IQ is just a measure of pattern recognition. An AI can do that well. Our brains are just like computer, with neurons instead of matrices. Our brains are just way more complex. It's hard to define intelligence.

6
SeeMarkFlyreply
lemmy.ml

Our brains are electro-chemical. Not just like a computer.

The chemicals are what "decided" to make or break a connection. No digital machine is going to emulate that.

-5
lemmy.world

The brain is just a different machine.

And of course digital systems can emulate analogue systems.

Not that that's a prerequisite for intelligence.

The two super computers that the NWS uses to predict the weather are consistently at odds with each other.

Same program, same input, different output.

When things get real complicated, things start behaving unpredictably.

Then you have entropy. That machine is heading for the junkyard. How many repairs will you tolerate?

If it's really, really complicated, how will you know it's broken?

-4
piefed.zip

Can you people stop embarrassing yourselves? We get it, you don't like LLMs. But we've been calling shitty things AI for a long time. It was "AI" when Skyrim NPCs assumed it must have been the wind that shot their fellow guards.

-1
SeeMarkFlyreply
lemmy.ml

There is a very good reason I don't like them.

Rich people don't have "talent". They rent or buy talent.

A.I. (LLMs) allows "wealth" to access "talent" without letting talent access wealth.

That is WHY the rich want A.I.

Now what rich person would NOT want that?

And what poor person would want that?

See the problem yet?

The rich (people that own LLMs) are NOT stealing your money, they are stealing "what you are worth" (a living wage).

4

Yes, yes, we get it.

A.I. (LLMs)

Not all generative AI models are LLMs, in fact what modt people immediately think of outside of tech/development is image and audio generation, which is why a catchall term has been generally agreed.

(I have no idea what "fetch" means as a slang term, but I've always wanted an excuse to use it in a sentence so thank you for giving me the opportunity.)

3

It's short for fetching

fetching/fĕch′ĭng/

adjective

Very attractive; charming.

"a fetching new hairstyle."

Drawing favorable attention.

"a fetching new hat"

Similar: appealingtakingwinning

Attractive; pleasant to regard.

3

No, no, we just need an executive order requiring federal agencies use the term, then the Library of Congress will update the LOC subject headings and the college libraries will (by default) adopt the new subject headings and it'll be so much fun /s

3

He closed down Trump Model Management in early 2017, likely because of the open child trafficking, and lost his connection to MC2 Modeling when Epstein was arrested. But he still has Paolo Zampolli, who to the best of my searching, still has deep ties to ID Model management.

But who are we kidding, Trump still has ties to a lot of creeps. Funny that.

I like to just call them by what they do. Image generation model, text to speech model, word guessing engine. All of these things are within the computational field called "artificial intelligence," but not a one of them contains a lick of actual intelligence. Now that people outside computational academics are exposed to the term, I don't want to confuse them into thinking intelligence has been achieved. It's just an aspirational name, and folks are confused enough already.

3

Curious how they transitioned the names of the Bay of Mexico, the Lake Ontario and now of Artificial Intelligence.

They can accept name changes.

23

That's okay, Don. I was already your enemy.

Oh, and you've got it backwards. You're the one who's the enemy of our Republic. And pretty much everyone else, too.

19

Lmao I didn’t realize how seriously these dorks would take the Newspeak trope.

18
lemmy.world

Ok, I'll just call it American Intelligence now.

17

Really? My initial thought was, “We deserve it.”

Our neighbors elected Trump twice. It’s clear they’re not the most intelligent folks in the world.

2
Jackreply

You’re right to feel this way. This is absolutely correct.

The intelligent American choice is between

  • omnicidal biosphere destruction, with a side order of genocide; or
  • omnicidal biosphere destruction, with a side order of genocide and bigotry.

These are the only two options available, because no-one has ever made ethical choices, anywhere, in all of human history. It's impossible. Instead choose one of these so you have a better chance of being on the winning evil team.

10

I hereby declare that any groveling bootlicker unironically using the term "SI" shall be shunned, ridiculed, and laughed out of the room anywhere they show their disgraced face

13

Well, I've been trying to avoid calling those systems "AI" (outside of quotes and such) for years. Because they aren't intelligent. They are LLMs and diffusion models.

I'm still the enemy of course.

11

How can people trust AI from a company that renames its product to such a stupid name because the senile president of the United States throws a tantrum about it? What else is that company doing at the request of the US government?

11

It isn't even intelligence. It just builds text on probabilities and statistics, which has convinced idiots of course.

6

Here comes another “executive order”

…which happens to be the White House Staffers internal term for a full diaper

9
lemmy.world

It is great that Trump is finally embracing the SI system.

8

Fine, I'll call it silicon intelligence, which makes it sound alien because it is.

7

The opinion of anyone who is impressed by the function or output of a LLM, to the level they believe it is in any way adjacent to intelligence, should be summarily dismissed, and ridiculed should they persist.

They should also be explicitly quarantined from any decision making process that affects anyone not similarly cognitively impaired.

7
lemmy.world

I’m pretty sure he runs on artificial intelligence. Probably a beta version.

7
lemmy.world

I'll call it SI: Simulated Intelligence

Because it isn't actual intelligence and it sure as hell isn't "super"

6

Stop trying to make super intelligence a thing, it's not going to happen

6

executive departments and agencies (agencies) shall use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in place of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, policy documents, and other non-statutory documents within the executive branch.

welp, this only covers executive departments and agencies.

nice try, donnie.

6

Federal agencies wont follow that directive either. Just the political appointees.

2

Is he talking about that digitised version of a fruit fly brain..?

Because I get how he could consider it superior intelligence... even an extremely simplified fruit fly is more intelligent than him...

... but some handler should tell him that the same doesn't apply to most other people...

6

That idiot shouldn’t be allowed within 20 feet of the word “intelligence”.

5
lemmy.zip

Surely he is referring to how these are actually large language models right?

5

They only call it that because he was scared of "big word".

2

The rest of the world are still calling the Gulf of Mexico, Lake Ontario and AI. We're also cheering Iran and spitting on nathyahoo.

5

I mean, Iran definitely is right to defend itself against Israeli-American aggression. They're wrong about a lot of other things, but giving America, Israel and their allies hell for blowing up their country is objectively the right thing to do.

4

I mostly agree. On the other hand, the US was settled by religious extremists who were not welcome in Great Britain because their religion differed from the state religion.

They wisely saw that if the state established a religion, then a religion like theirs could be labelled as heretic. The result of that is that there is (or at least used to be) a separation of church and state in the US.

1

And now we know how seriously we should take the rest of the sewage he spews.

5

Uh-huh. I don’t see Grok, Anthropic or OpenAI scrambling to change their name.

5

Musk is only one who said he'd change name to SpaceXsi. Its a fair line to call anyone using term SI to be enemy of Americans.

4
lemmy.world

Well, who the fuck is even using Grok? I've never used it even once. It never seems to be on the leaderboards.

2

oh yeah, well I do formally declare that trump is a poopyhead. How about that.

He's so stupid. Who cares what he proclaims. He doesnt have the authority to order citizens what to say unless they are federal employees. He can sit down on his rancid dump-filled diaper and shut the hell up.

And we could have told him we were his enemy before this, all he has to do is open his fat eyes.

5

Artificial intelligence not to be confused with inbred intelligence which is at the forefront of the gop pedophile protectors intelligence

4

2
lemmy.ca

Yet another mental/sycophancy problem with Trump that is a 25th amendment disqualifying reason for presidency. You can't just have surrounding lackeys just praise his renaming of things, but especially absurd to declare an enemy anyone who doesn't follow the absurdity. Can't have a super dumb (with a b) Fuhrer defining super intelligence.

Some stage of AI could earn the label SI. A panel of experts, instead of fraudsters colluding with fraudster in chief would set a standard, IMO, higher than current LLM capacity. IMO, SI would be a status/standard beyond AGI, which is still a somewhat amorphous definition, but one for experts to debate.

Promoting SI as an exaggerated marketing buzzword, with bonus unquestionable obedience to terminology, gives AI and our super high IQ ruler, deserved unquestioned obedience. Why would you want to regulate/slow down super intelligence trying to help us get to skynet?

3
lemmy.world

Yes. That's what is so annoying about his latest brainfart that he's now trying to codify into culture/policy, and it's that ASI is already a thing. And ASI is obviously not the same as AI. At this point both it and AGI are hypotheticals and lots of unknowns about them and even their definition is being pondered for quite a long time, and by people far smarter than donnie dumb-dumb here.

Renaming AI to "SI" because Crazy Uncle Liberty just has a whim is some of the craziest shit to happen to computer science. AI is a field of computer science. It'd be like if dumbass here was suddenly saying we need to rename some other field of study just because of his goddamned vibes.

It's annoying as fuck. I took several electives in AI in university and if I knew then that donnie dickweed here was going to try to rename it decades later....jfc.

3

More BS techniques he uses with the name change...

reporter: "Yet another expert has warned AI can cause significant destruction. Should we try to stop that?"

DJT: Well its called SI now, so...

2

You should declare war on shipping the enemy sensitive jet aircraft parts. Or getting our main bases blown to shit in the middle east. Or perhaps you shouldn't have let the Arabs buy all the oil production in southeast Texas so they only make gasoline which is sent overseas to Europe where it sells for more (while America pays more than ever in the entire lifespan of automobiles...)

I digress.

Thanks trump. You're every bit the sorry shit you've ever been - and now you're channeling Baron Vladimir Harkonnen.

Oh, and by the way - I saw those pics of the aircraft carrier - the one without food or water? Yeah... it looked like shit. I've seen better looking garbage barges. It's called PAINT AND MAINTENANCE.

All kidding aside - FEED THEM, CLOTHE THEM, PROVIDE FOOD AND SHELTER AND A DECENT PLACE TO LIVE.

You sorry assed criminal piece of shit.

He'd never read this - don't worry. trigger some maggats?

3

This is just an example of how obsessed and dependent shitpants is on artificial intelligence to do his thinking for him.

3

Laugh now. But he's one executive order away from having the power to arrest anyone who uses forbidden language.

3

I can't tell whether this story emphasizes the "stable" or "genius" parts of Trump more.

3

Whatever orange, I call them llm and don't anthro whatever them. Treat as the tools they are, like the internet is a tool and can be used right or wrong. A wrench is a tool that if you can dodge it you can doge a ball.

2

Do you guys ever wonder if you'd be flagged at the border if you were to ever go to the US?

It's a gamble as to what will win out between America's police state and their total incompetence as a nation, I think.

1

Oh, don't worry, I don't give it that much credit either. That's slop.
