Rakuten TV blocks Linux

A question about Linux blocks on streaming sites. Is there a way to go around them?

For example, Rakuten TV has some free movies that are viewable around here. I could watch them on Windows but after the Linux switch can no longer play them. The site specifically tells me that GNU/Linux is not supported.

I don't understand what the problem is to support Linux from a technical point of view.

Would some spoofed client header be enough here?

bitwarden·Bitwardenbypassenger

Why does Bitwarden need access to my browser profiles and downloads directory suddenly?

I am very confused by this update message I got from KDE Discover when updating my Fedora Linux.

Bitwarden wants new permissions:

Home folder access: Can read and write files in the following locations without asking for permission:

Below, it lists what look to be profile folders for chrome, edge, chromium, firefox and "mozilla".

In addition, it wants system folder access: some xdg-config paths for several browsers and the Downloads folder!

What is this?

I cannot find any explanation for this.

Going to uninstall anyways, no thanks.

Rather use the website then, until I setup my own VaultWarden, unless I figure out a good sync for KeePass.

Firefox backspace button doesn't work on GOS

cross-posted from: https://sopuli.xyz/post/44678605

Not sure if this is a GOS or Firefox issue.

Go to qwant.com, type something, backspace doesn't work. Same result with duckduckgo.

Using GrapheneOS, built-in keyboard, Firefox 150. Tried with and without ublock origin.

I think it has been a week or so since it started.

Anyone else got this issue?

Sorry if it's the wrong place to ask.

And thanks to the GOS devs, you have saved me from so many frustrations.

Edit: so far two people in comments seem to have similar problems so it's not just me.

Edit2: seems to only happen with some sites like qwant and ddg, and only with built-in GrapheneOS keyboard.

Curious if it happens on Android

Edit3: Duckduckgo now works, removed it from list

Japanese overacting slapstick Poirot

Hi all, first post here!

Just wanted to share this lesser known movie I found. It's a fun watch for Poirot fans, but otherwise, this is not really a recommendation. This is not a masterpiece by any means. Just a weird twist of the Agatha Christie story.

I had trouble sourcing it, but found a mediocre quality copy on Dailymotion. I think it could be legitimate since it has some short weird ad breaks with spoilers running in the background. But as I'm not sure if it's legit I'll skip linking to it.

Discover nags while watching video (Fedora KDE)

Hi all, first time posting here.

Installed Fedora KDE Plasma half a year ago on a Thinkpad mostly used in the living room - for streaming / playing videos and minimal gaming. Having zero regrets. It is amazing how far we've come.

I have had very little issues with it, all being only slight annoyances. Nothing compared to win10 or needless to say the current abomination from Microslop... which doesn't want to run on this laptop anyway.

So, here is the first annoyance: when watching a video with VLC, fullscreen, sometimes Discover (the app store / updater thingy) will pop up full screen, says "refreshing..." or whatever, clearly wanting to inform me of some brand new updates.

Question is, how to make it not bother me when a video is being watched?

It is not a big deal, I just immediately close it, rewind a bit and that's it. But if there is some setting to tweak or some magic words to type, I am interested...

PS. I am so happy about this move to Linux. Thank you Microslop for pushing me over.

Blocked by Codeberg? Edit: not

It seems to me that my IP has been blocked in some way by Codeberg.org.

I am getting Obtainium errors from yesterday, when it tries to update CoMaps from CodeBerg. Codeberg.org does not open in browser either, Firefox just says "cannot complete request". But using another internet connection I can open codeberg.org.

Maybe this might be due to update checks from Obtainium having flagged me as a bot? I'm just guessing at this point, though.

Does anyone else have this problem? Should I be doing things differently or using another source like F-droid?

EDIT:

Just as I sent this I found this page: https://status.codeberg.org/status/codeberg

It seems there is something going on so probably it's just some downtime thing and not related to my IP.

New experiments suggest Earth's core contains up to 45 oceans' worth of hydrogen

cross-posted from: https://news.abolish.capital/post/26823

Scientists have long known that Earth's core is mostly made of iron, but the density is not high enough for it to be pure iron, meaning lighter elements exist in the core, as well. In particular, it's suspected to be a major reservoir of hydrogen. A new study, published in Nature Communications, supports this idea with results suggesting the core contains up to 45 oceans' worth of hydrogen. These results also challenge the idea that most of Earth's water was delivered by comets early on.

Bug: Black borders / smaller window after posting

Voyager seems to have a bug that seemingly came with the new Voyager version: after posting a comment, screen space with rounded corners / camera notch are not fully utilized and black borders appear. This effect remains until app restart. App remains fully usable, just with a bit less screen space used.

Did a quick search of github issues but did not find this one reported.

Are others getting this?

Sorry for this low effort post instead of a real full bug report. I feel like this must be a known issue already but just didn't find it.

Thanks for the great app!

Planning to selfhost images and calendar in addition to HTTP(S)

I would like some ideas or suggestions as I am not sure how to continue with self hosting.

I want to self host images and caldav, maybe documents later as well. These would need to be continuously available to PC clients and Android. There would be a handful of users maximum.

The obvious (?) solution would be Nextcloud, which would do everything I need.

My problem is that I have only one public IP address and the HTTP and HTTPS ports are already in use by Apache.

The second problem is that I already use wireguard to another location, and Android cannot connect simultaneously to several wireguard endpoints. At least as far as I know.

Below, I list the approaches I have considered and the problems / drawbacks I see.

Please comment if I am wrong about something here.

At the moment I am looking at option 4.

Any comments are welcome!

Option 1. Nextcloud AIO publicly available through HTTPS

It needs the HTTP & HTTPS ports which are in use. Otherwise, this would be the go-to for me.

Option 2. Nextcloud AIO through wireguard

I would have to switch between two wireguard instances on Android. There would probably be continuous connection errors and sync problems on apps that try to connect to either location (nextcloud and davx5 for example).

Setup would be a bit compilated for me. AFAIK, I would have to set up a local DNS, self made certificates and a reverse proxy for the Apache server.

Setup would be complicated for all other users as well and require wireguard and manually installed certificates.

Option 3. Nextcloud AIO with tailscale

Setup complicated like #2 and then some?

I have no idea if it works while using the android wireguard app for the other connection I need.

Option 4. Radicale and Ente publicly available

As far as I know, these run on special ports that are not 80 or 443.

Server setup would be slightly complicated.

Client setup would be simple.

Document sync I would have to figure out later (maybe just syncthing or otter setup?).
