What do you really want to do so bad, but can't?
I want to just delete my Discord, FB, Reddit, Second Life and other social sites so I can just be focused on myself. But I can't because the guilt of seemingly deserting those I have left, will be hard to deal with.

So... Do you just round-robin, or...
This is why I can't. Not without kangaroo genetic therapy.
Stop "working" as in regular day job. There would be so many things I'd like to do and help other people - aside from that I am also medically severely disabled and it would be great to have the time to live better.
But no chance, gotta be "productive". (even though not USA but at least I'm not broke because of the circumstances)
The worst part of capitalism is that it is violently coercive. You need to be profitable to someone else, least you become destitute, starving, and eventually homeless, and likely even die on the streets.
My personal irony is that I already died once and it made me bitter and people expect me to be thankful, which in itself is a loop I could get lost in.
You're back and well, well you know what to do. Work!
I'm also medically severely disabled, but finally got on a disability pension after years of work.
What kind of things would you do to help people? I feel like anything I could do, I can't, because of said disability. If I have the capacity I rarely contribute to open source software and projects, but that's about it.
There's a house for the elderly close by. I could help them with company or tech - aside from that tech help for those who got left behind would be a great thing in general.
I want to be the cause of all AI and bigtech companies to go under.
So, I actually have something on this...
Own my own home.
And the real bitch of it is that cheap homes are in those places that generally don’t have jobs (of any kind, really), and good jobs are in those places that generally don’t have cheap homes.
And this wouldn’t be such a problem if “good jobs” still provided an annual income of more than ⅓ the cost of a “good home”. But they aren’t. They’re much, much less these days.
So we can’t even really use the second half of that aphorism anymore.
I feel really sorry for anyone younger than GenX. Unless you’re a nepo baby of some kind, you got seriously shafted.
Own a home, be in a long term relationship, have a career worth a shit.
I'm turning 40, "uneducated" because I never "found myself" and had to support myself right out of highschool. Single for almost a decade. Working a dead end factory job. It's not happening. :/
I also went right to work after high school. Some of my jobs were dead-end as recently as 2020, but I found better work in which I can flourish. I'm also in a wonderful relationship and got married, in my 40s, to someone I met after a long time alone and a long-term abusive partner before that.
Things can get better.
(I'm a city-dweller who will probably never own a home, though. Fuck real estate prices, but at least my apartment isn't bad at all.)
good news is plenty of people are educated and single and own homes... and feel the exact same way as you.
I meet them all the time.
I pretty much gave up on dating, "no one" seems to be able to find what they're looking for and dating
parasitesapps have made the issue 1000000x worse... When your world of potential dates expands dramatically and they're all a swipe away the dating pool becomes a buffet table and the perfect dish is just one more swipe away... And another swipe... And another swipe... Pass on all these people, the next will be the perfect one... And another swipe...the problem is people have impossible standards, not just for dating, but life in general.
and if you don't live in that perpetually unhappy head space, they think you're a loser.
Not be alive. I'm passively suicidal. I don't have a plan. I'm not going to do anything. I very much know how screwed everyone would be if I wasn't here. I make a lot of people's lives very much better by my actions. I also know that I would miss out on a lot of fantastic experiences (I want to pet fluffy cows so much).
However, my life isn't worth it for myself. I'm middle aged. On the whole, it's been more negative than positive. Don't get me wrong, there have been some amazing highlights. I have wonderful kids and some amazing memories with my spouse and moments in my childhood, but it's all outweighed by the bad. The bad is cumulatively worse than the good, it's net negative.
You deserve to be happy and healthy too. Don't martyr yourself; not even for family.
I did the same thing. Bound by obligation, burning the candle at both ends for my family, until the flame flickered, and everything fell apart anyway. You need to find a sustainable life, both mentally and physically, that brings you satisfaction; not just resentment and exhaustion.
Feel free to DM me.
What's a fluffy cow? Literally a cow that's got fluffy fur?
Yes! Highland cattle! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highland_cattle
Well, they look adorable.
You're a person who could really benefit be speaking to a therapist.
Jesus man, first of all, live, you can be happy, some of the time.
Keep in mind, throwing away your life in suicide is a selfish act, if one insists on ending it all though, why not take some ill intentioned people with you? Just a thought.
Jesus man, first of all, you might be an asshole
You waffle immediately from shaming someone for being mentally ill into advocating that they be violent.
We'd obviously all prefer that people aren't suicidal, and yeah we want to help them. I know I want to live in a world where nobody feels they need to take their own life.
I don't think suicide is automatically selfish though, you don't know anything about this person's life. Demanding that somebody continue an existence that they find miserable in order for you to not have your feelings hurt is pretty damn selfish though. Do you think that making somebody feel bad will somehow make them feel less bad?
Lol I took it as a joke.
First of all, yes, I am an asshole, that's what I'm going for, so thanks.
Second, your arguments here expose you as not a part of the resistance, but a tool of the oligarchy, manipulating us into compliance, no?
Eat a bag of dicks. Can I still say that? Are you going to take offense and get me cancelled for that phrase? Only because you can't if not.
Grow the fuck up bro, or quit manipulating us into being sheep led to the slaughter. I guess that makes you the judas goat.
If your revolution requires you to prey on the most vulnerable and have them throw away their lives in a bid to further your agenda, then I fail to see how that's better than the status quo
drive a vehicle. I'm in the USA, and driving is essential. unfortunately, according to the doctors, I wouldn't pass the vision requirements (degree of sight for the eyes) iirc that are in the laws
Overthrow the US Government. And Restore the Constitution.
Buy RAM.
Maybe ram, the animal, is cheaper than RAM now.
It bothers me maybe once a week to think that I'll probably never go to space.
Get my health back so I can do everything I thought was there forever.
Make friends or have fulfilling sex
Transition, change my name, teach myself Blender so I can while away my 40's making the animations I dreamed of since I was a teenager... Ironically all of this is impossible because I am too broke to get out from under the thumb of my dumbass Boomer parents
Due to financials, I currently cannot get a commission from my favorite artists. Specifically a ref sheet of higher quality than my current skills and some fan art as well. Similar thing applies to getting a VTuber model and trackers with the help of said ref sheet/s... just to say I've tried it.
Besides, that's a lot of work to try and get all that VTubing stuff to work on linux. Either that, or I am dumb.
Take a year off and do nothing but record music. But that would take a fiscal miracle.
Study architecture and history. But history doesnt bring you money And for architecture it seems so faar i need to get another degree first from how i got told from a Uni
its true about history, and it is ill advised, unless you are planning to do asian history as part of your graduate program. because western history has been done to death by phds , and if you want to be academia. i saw a post a sub, how a person was obsessed with only doing history but was "disappointed when he was told by his professor there is next to no job market for history, let alone western history" wierdly still finished the degree as an undergrad, but gave up on "life" because he couldnt see himself do anything else. because history is so saturated as well with so many graduates, and working in museums isnt appealing to people with history degree.
architect might have problems from what ive heard too,
That's how I feel about astronomy and science in general really...
That and I'm also really stupid so I could never be a scientist lol
I am not stupid. But was in a terrible enviorment in school which is why i sucked in school, am only now discovering my many passions and why i didnt continue school. Because it was a devils circle. Bad enviorment -> no motivation/drive -> bad grades -> more self dislike and repeecussions from the bad emviorment -> no motivation aso.
i had a pretty terrible experience with my CC run, somehow this is one of many CC in our area decided to have ivy league level courses, that they claim for some UC to accept(mostly in the critical areas that people need to transfer with, STEM, english). while the nearby state uni dint have that same issue, and its far easier as far as classes go. so this cause alot of people to drop/withdraw courses all the time, or change majors suddenly.
several incidents were noted in the past, that people attempt to return to campus after academic dismisal i dont know if this the only CCollege in our area, people stay way past 2+years.
non-scientist(who arnt majoring physics ,engineering, or astronomy) physics college classes(the one requiring lots of math/trig) were too complex for me eventhough i passed it, even though i liked the subject. too many intricate calculations and concepts.
if you plan to major in it, you need to do higher math courses for it.
Math is one of the main reasons I didn't go for anything science related. I need to understand HOW something works in order to retain it. Every math class I ever had was always "when you see x36h638f then do the formula 362h+gsue6-8226g/h7383 because stone cold said so." ...like how the fuck am I supposed to not only memorize that completely abstract nonsense, but remember how/when to apply it?? My dumbass brain doesn't work that way
physics and chemistry both required convoluted abstract thinking, and deriving formulas from. i went to a CC that decided to make most of thier stem closer to what harder colleges took, ivy league level
Knowing history is important, but yeah, it's hard to make money from it directly if at all.
Teacher and museums that is the 2 ways.
Tomb raiding
Is Second life still a thing?!
I want the ability to kill multiple people instantly at the same time just by using my mind. I think I can help the world out if about 2 to 3 dozen people were suddenly dead. Maybe more.
Not have to go to work
Get rid of the assholes at work and love my job again.
I want to have a family. I have wanted it my entire life.
Been trying my entire life, but every person I date hates me or hates children, so having a family is with them is straight out. I also get offered a lot of casual relationships/sex, but rarely anything serious.
I can't seem to ever attract anyone who likes or wants children, it sucks. Been banging my head against this wall for 20 years now.
You should look up u/Asafum up in the comments...
Regularly vacuum. Idk what it is that's so difficult about it, I can force myself to deal with the awful sensory experiences of other chores on a fairly regular basis, but vacuuming is one I put off till the floor gives me anxiety.
Also I need to linux my laptops and bypass a forgotten password on the old one with the disk drive so I can watch stuff again on the good screen. I've been meaning to do this for zonks now, ffs.
Socials wise, just do it, think of it like ripping off a bandaid. Add those you want to keep to a group chat or something and hopefully they'll talk there. Ngl tho, I do still miss reddit, being an anonymous voice amongst millions was nice. I hate that feeling of being recognised.
Drop out of society more or less completely. People stress me out.
stable family, have a better childhood, have confidence, believing I won't kill myself, being proud of myself
Walk Machu Picchu. Can't due to not enough money and no passport.
Move to Norway. Need a visa sponsor first :(
Move to another schengen country with easier rules, then move to Norway.
Do you have any suggestions? Money is a really hard point for us since I'm the sole provider and get paid Japanese wages in Japanese yen which is really bad against the Euro right now. I speak bits and pieces of various languages, but nothing else really fluently yet. I don't see this being possible without a concrete job offer somewhere. Thanks!
Sorry, no idea about detailed European immigration laws, I just know that different countries have different requirements and some are easier than others. Depending on your profession, countries like Germany have shortages that make immigrating much easier, being able to get permanent residence and even citizenship in as short as 3 years.
Yeah, Norway is 3 years to PR and then another few to citizen and they allow having other citizenships (which I will keep until my parents pass in case they need help). I'm a backend software engineer. I guess I can look at Germany as well; I studied it for a bit in Uni (somewhere between B1 and B2 probably), but that was 20 years ago and it's mostly gone, heh.
Turn it around.
How much time have you felt worrying about people you used to see on those sites?
I'm guessing you hardly notice their absence.
Every now and then I get a little bit lonely, and you're never coming 'round
Oh sure, I tell you, you tell somebody else, next thing you know we're in another ice age.
I'd forgotten Second Life still exists!
I used it when it first came out 23 years ago.
Weird that it still has a userbase or makes any money?
They manage a concurrent 40k userbase. 45k at peak.
I never expected anyone on Reddit to stick around if they didn't want to be there. I have a hard time believing that people there would feel deserted by you.
True, I quit reddit 3 or 4 years ago after the API backlash and I don't miss it and I doubt people miss me. My only social media is FB because all friends and families are on it, I use only Messenger and Marketplace though.
You gotta quit Zuckerfuck’s Fascism Machine. Let them miss you. Be mysterious. Start another group - you can always just cave and rejoin anytime.
What do you have to lose?
Call me old school, but I just call my family. Video call, nowadays. My kids can talk to their grandparents for hours if they want to, tell them stories, show them toys, whatever. Better than any Facebook post.
when i left reddit people made posts asking where I had gone to and they missed my comments and posts.
It was weird.
If they did that after you left, how do you know that they did that!?
Can't is a loaded term. It's the difference between improbable and impossible, and that's a big difference.
Anyway, I'd like to get the ball rolling on world peace and the abolition of heirarchal societal structures. Definitely not impossible, but it's going to take a whole lot of time, effort, persistence and luck.
Realistically, nothing, for my life is pretty sweet (thank God) and I sorta want for nothing. But, from a more silly approach, fly, maybe? Breathe underwater? I'm not that creative. 🤷♂️
Cobble. I've tried, but I just can't seem to get the knack of it. I can sew my own clothes but footgear is forever beyond me.
im long term unemployed so I would like to be getting a regular paycheck. from there buy a lot of stuff I can't right now although with inflation im not sure if I could with most of it even if I did start getting income. honestly linkedin and facebook are the only normal social media I have do to looking for work and to stay in touch with folks. I go on linkedin everyday currently (ugh) but not to post or read posts. I totally don't get the idea of posting on linkedin. then try to hit up facebook at least once a week in case someone is looking for me.
Die
Get a good paying job I don’t hate. I don’t have to love it, but something that pays really well that I don’t mind doing.
I’ve got nothing past high school and can’t afford to go to school at this point. Trying to support a family on a grocery dept manager salary isn’t very easy, but I don’t know what job I could even do without going back to school first.
I want to travel. I want to see the world, see new sights, experience new things, meet new people, get a bunch of souvenirs. But it's just too damn expensive.
Feel happy and safe
Quit my job and become a musician full time. I have a mortgage, a lifestyle, and a person to support.
Buy a house in the country where I won't have neighbors in my business every time I walk out the door.
I want a community. Doesn't have to be physical, just a discord where I'm not the only one checking in daily. Dumb memes and inside jokes, coordination to game occasionally but nothing demanding. People to share my ups and downs with and to share theirs in kind.
I tried to make one, join one, so many times. Gaia online, discord channels, Warframe clans, Minecraft servers, community gardens, secret societies, social clubs. They all just fizzle. Held together by my desperate attempts until I burn out and come back to find it vacant..
Work for myself. Don't really care doing what, but in my wildest dreams I make an indie game as good as Stardew Valley or Walkabout Mini Golf, and just spend my time making updates at my own pace.
I'd also be happy as a window cleaner, dog walker, freelance floorcleaner whatever.
Move out of state (or out of the country)
I have a hard time thinking of things I want to do but can't. Maybe horny stuff? There are people I would sleep with if that didn't have undesirable social consequences. Otherwise if I really want to do something, I do it.
I want to find a job that I can work from home. As a person who has seizures I quit factory work for my own personal safety after having a seizure on a factory floor. The thought of having a seizure while driving to any job is terrifying. The thought of having a seizure during a teams meeting sounds absolutely delightful.
retire
Nothing much. Maybe retire early and travel but given that the kids are still in school I might as well continue working.
