We all know in this forum to regularly have the conversation with our ISP on price increases where they either give or you leave. I had the convo twice this year with my ISP, Ziply (who was bought last year by Bell Canada) and was told to pound sand.

The major phone providers rolled out 5g 5+ years ago and also slowly started offering wireless internet as a home internet service. There was lots of variability in service quality depending on city and wireless provider and overall it has continued to improve. What was (predictably) disappointing was that major providers, including discount wireless and even MNVOs had stubbornly high prices for wireless home internet--until fairly recently. While service speed, quality and price will still vary and depending on your needs it may not suffice but, I wanted to share that it may be worth looking at (or looking at it again if you explored in the past) as both the quality has impressed me so far and the pricing is finally where it should be. With regular/legacy internet providers continuing to jack up prices to pad their margins and consolidation continuing apace in the industry, price increases will continue to eat away at your monthly budget.

I use Mint(T-mob MNVO) as my cell provider and they finally started offering a discount for signing up for wireless home internet; $30/month if you pay a year at a time and are also a wireless phone customer. T-mobile and verizon have 5g wireless service available on their website for $35/mo. AT&T of course lists it for $55 as they've always been overpriced, there may be other affordable options worth considering. If you have any good pricing options for your area/region and thoughts on your service experience please feel free to share in the comments.

I got my home gateway this week for Mint and speeds were far in excess of what I was hoping for; 500+mbps down and ~90mbps up with 25-35ms ping. As this was better than the 300/300 fiber I was paying for and not any meaningful experience difference I'm stoked to almost halve my internet bill and wanted to pass this along. Good luck!

Edit: adding cap info as it came up a few times: Mint's home "internet" is unlimited data but in the fine print it's a 1TB cap per month after which your data/traffic may be shaped, slowed, deprioritized, etc. Obviously only a marketer would call that "unlimited", though I doubt most average users would hit 1tb in a month. Other carrier policies may vary.

Hi, I'm looking for recommendations for a head-mounted (ideally 360) camera that can do sound as well for runs <1 hour. In addition to being able to record a great run, I'd especially like to have this to capture the dangerous conditions we (USA) runners are exposed to by unsafe drivers, I plan to submit a montage of footage to our local city in hopes of driving some action and accountability to improve pedestrian safety.

The City of Portland and Multnomah County seem to be struggling to keep up with Dundon's tactics, communications and pressure. Why would they be?

They're dealing with someone who started their illustrious careers as a used car salesman focused on sub-prime (high interest, high-risk) loans who settled lawsuits in multiple states, multiple times for illegal business practices.

Billionaires don't come to their wealth without abusing others. COP & Multnomah County need to get some adults who are capable of putting their foot down and not giving away half a billion dollars to a grifter billionaire.

We need affordable housing. We need sustainable energy and investment in public transit. We need equitable economics--not billionaire giveaways.

I opened this thread and clicked the image to zoom and it was all blurry. I thought the Op had out in. Low quality image to the post but when I clicked and downloaded the image and opened it, the image was much higher quality.

Is this someone using the "thumbnail" field in the post feature which maybe isn't used that often which is why it hasn't come up for me before? I'm no fediverse expert, is it someone cross posting from another linked site or app and that's why it's displaying differently?

Just strange to have such a low quality image when clicking on the image to view vs. downloading a higher res version.

Extra, that you probably already knew, Dick Van Dyke, who also played Burt the chimney sweep and common man character in the movie, portrays the elderly bank director here in the same movie. A front runner to Sellers and Carrey's multitudinous talents.

Oregon is often listed as a "progressive" state, but in fact, has failed to keep up or institute some worker, job and wage pieces and are embarrassingly behind as of 2026:

• Washington and California both have statewide minimum salaried/exempt wages. As of 2026, the minimum annual salary an exempt(salaried) WA employee can be paid is $80,168.40, and in CA it's $70,304. WA's bill is particularly progressive and in the last 3 years has caught up to and now passed CA for the required state salaried minimum. New York, Maine and Colorado also have salaried minimum thresholds. Meanwhile, Oregon has...nothing for salaried/exempt employees and only toes the Federal line, current still at $35,536 since 2019 when a Texas lawsuit and corrupt judge clawed back an Obama increase to $47k. More on that history across presidential administrations since 2004 here but at any rate, it's embarrassing Oregon hasn't moved on this despite Democrats having total control--easy to see who pads their pockets.

• Oregon has no job posting salary disclosure requirements. Both CA and WA have required job posts to have the salary range in them as of 2023. Oregon, continues to provide employers the benefit of darkness where inequality pervades and employees invest the time and effort in application to jobs where by the time an employer may disclose the salary the grip of sunk cost may not leave the candidate with other options. This is embarrassing and could be easily fixed, the only people advocating against this are greedy, or incompetent--even a basic passage of this is not hard and decent employers already do it as they don't want to waste candidates' or their own company time.
