Canada could have had this...

We use pics of asshole PMs and the Queen instead.

I think at this point in world history we should just stop idolizing people, whoever they are. I love the idea of having animals or cultural symbols in the notes (like canada's leaf, france's eiffel, US's burguers etc)

Australia got glow in the dark dinosaurs.

Ed: wait no Canada got the glow in the dark dinosaurs and Australia got regular non glowing ones.

Over a badass wolf? Put the astronaut on a coin nobody uses and move on.

10

Canada should've done that

And this is making me think the US could do national parks on our money. We could have colorful geyser money, but nooooo we needed a slaver on that bill…

2

I'm on team bird money but its not my call. The humans ones should also have the names for the sake of uneducated outsiders like me.

That's a pretty lame contest. Contestants were told to make notes from an exact list of famous Europeans or birds with some lame architecture on the other side. Can you imagine the excruciating process of finding and sorting either list - "Marie Curie can't be there because she left a negative comment around the cleanliness of her room at a Belgian conference!", "Our prime minister died from an allergic reaction to curlews!"

At least countries can put whatever they want on their own euro coins. These notes just scream designed by a committee of bureaucrats.

6

Yeah! Dont need national symbols on bills. But the coins! Ooh that is where the fun begins! Especially the special edition coins nations make!

If only in D the stripe wouldnt be in the middle!! Then D would be the supirior option!

Cool. 1000 MVR is currently about $65 USD.

So for $130 plus the cost of framing, you can display both sides of the currency as art in your house.

€115

If I have enough money to vacation in the Maldives, this s a reasonable souvenir.

USA: Best we can do is droopy-eyed, rich, white, rapist, enslaver men with powdered wigs who by todays standards might be the most unfuckable men who ever lived. Also some illuminati symbols to troll the public about our psuedo-secret bank club full of pedophile extortionists.

Cool but ridiculous. The 50¢ piece is out of control with the size

4

Look at it, though, it has a kangaroo on it and everything, and it's fucking dodecagonal

6

It's great though! I can tell exactly how much I have in my pockets without looking!

3

Why, because they tear a giant hole in your pocket with the weight so you know you have no coins in there? ;)

Japan made all their coins identifiable by touch as well. There's a small and big one, then for the 4 with similar sizes 2 have milled edges and 2 have holes.

I can't believe whale sharks are even real

12

weirdly they feel a lot more sensible than actual whales, to me.
Whale sharks are effectively just an oversized non-bottom-feeding version of those fish you put in an aquarium, it's not strange for a fish to evolve like that.
But actual whales? Somehow a creature looking like a boar turned into pseudo-fishes that spend all their time under water while still having to breathe air, and became so ludicrously large that the smallest ones are human-sized. wtf

Beats euro bills. But euro bills aren't bad compared to most. They have color, artwork and growing sizes depending on their value.

My favorite European bill is the Swiss one though.

I kinda like the differing sizes as it makes identification easier.

Personally tho, I wish coinage was more common. Not cents, but whole values as I think they’re easy to carry for small denominations and pay with.

I hate having to stand at the counter trying to shove bills that crinkle and fold into my wallet while someone waits behind me.

4

I always shove my change in my pocket and deal with it later.

6

bills that crinkle

Never had that issue with euro bills tbh but i can see it happen with dollars and all those shitty bills

2

It's the Euro coins that are nice, and even that only for those from some countries (one side of Euro coins varies depending on the country that issued them).

2

Yeah ours are a bit dull, intentionally so with their landmarks. They are too big also could do with an all round 15% reduction.

3

For some reason, I really like having the reverse side being in portrait orientation. I wish more notes were designed that way.

12

STFU, you're going to make this a challenge for the orange one to put more of his face everywhere thinking it's "beautiful"

That character is from the initially-unaired pilot ("The Cage"), but that shot (and actor) is from "The Menagerie" - a 2-part episode from the first season that re-used scenes from The Cage as flashbacks.

They had Pike injured and in the wheelchair so they could use makeup and the "beep" communications to disguise the fact that the actor playing him was different in the newly-filmed scenes versus those from the flashbacks.

13

i think they did tone it back. the first impression on the previous ones was "oh my god that's so many colors". the second batch seem to make them toned down to a primary and a secondary color for each. i like them more. typography is ass in both though.

4

I did not realize Switzerland wasn't on the Euro. Anyway, your money does look cool!

2

Seems like Brazilian currency. We have animals in the notes too and the sea turtle is one of them

7

You could hold up a turd in that picture background and I'd still think it was a good picture

6

"Gimmie a thousand turtles" we'd say, and they'd reply with "I just have a thousand sharks".

6

They make it real pretty so people don't realize it's a worthless piece of paper used for the violent control of humanity.

Most beautiful of all, so far!

Just wait till big daddy T gets his face on the 1,000 USD bill.

The beauty then will be euge!

/s (also sorry for ruining an otherwise nice post but I couldn’t resist. Feel free to downvote this into oblivion)

Could've just said "The 1000 rufiyaa banknote" on the title.

It's right there on the note in latin characters (on the left picture, below the top-right "1000").

Mind you maybe it's just me who finds it wierd to talk about a currency and not actually saying its name.

I changed it to “one of the most beautiful” to be more accurate.

makes sense. It's very beautiful, but you can't claim it's the most beautiful without specifying a source that's not "me".

2

I mean, if you look real close it’s actually the picture they’re looking at

A denial of what? The fact that damn near every single meme you see on Lemmy has been on Reddit at some point? Are we really having this discussion?

Seriously, go post your own content instead of complaining about other people’s. We could always use more content on Lemmy!

I neither browse Reddit nor Facebook. This is literally my first time seeing these sea creature monies. 🤷

11

Exactly, it's always going to be someone's first time seeing something even if it's been around forever. People that are annoyed should just move on. Animal money is awesome and I enjoy seeing it come up now and then. And I also enjoy the people that get happy for seeing it.

6

Not having been on Reddit for years, I missed it entirely. And it's a good one, it brought some beauty into my scroll. OP has kindly allowed those of us not on the digital equivalent of a Superfund site to be able to enjoy it too.

Maybe what really should have been left on Reddit was the desire to personally police what others choose to post instead of simply appreciating it, or not, and then moving on.
