You could have been the greatest president of all

No, he couldn't have

You betrayed us, the Israelis.

I realize I don't necessarily speak for all of my fellow Americans when I say this, but I could not possibly care less if Israelis feel betrayed by Trump. He's not your president, it's not your government, go fuck yourselves.

I'm sorry but you're past the 90 day return policy. Best I can do is a discount on the next president you purchase.

"betrayed the Israelis"... Why does America owe Israel anything?

My first Reddit ban was for attempting to ask that question in the most politically neutral way possible.

11

Completely unrelated but hindsight being 20/20 the warning signs were always there with moderated centralized forums like reddit.

I have my same reddit acct I've had for 15+ years. I'm banned from few aubreddits but my first and most memorable was from AskReddit for doxxing myself. To remove the ban they told me I had to draw a picture of some stupid shit like a giraffe in a Santa hat because it was Christmas or something. That was when I realized I don't want anything to do with these stupid ass moderators power tripping over a users engagement on a forum. Absolutely asinine.

5

Mine was for saying only, "Israel is the Devil" Wait, that was twitter actually my bad. Fucking reddit did a bunch of dishonest enforecements against me because of Israel though.

2

yeah, I'd also ask: what more could we give them that hasn't been given already? also, it just illustrates how there's no offramp, no future peace with this government - Bibi knows only perpetual war will keep him in power, and maybe out of jail, so they're all out for it and thought trump would be dumb enough to go even further.

it's pretty mind boggling. he is really dumb tho so...maybe they think they can neg him into it? fuck....

8

"I never got why everyone hated the mass-and-child-rapist, but now that he doesnt want to murder iranians anymore... I get it now."

42

Except it isn’t that he doesn’t want to murder iranians any more. It’s that he put himself in a lose-lose situation and he somehow doubled down and made the loss even worse.

How can a US president betray "Israelis". He's not their president, and America is not their mommies. We owe them exactly nothing. They should get off our tit, and we'd like all the nuclear materials they stole from us returned immediately.

57

How can a US president betray "Israelis". He's not their president,

sure but not to defend the shit stain, he represents the nation, so if another nation states an "ally", say Canada...or Denmark or Ukraine or...

an allegory, you're married, doesnt mean you can't betray a friend, perhaps not as deeply as your partner but still.

Im an Australian, our previous governemnt betrayed the French for example

2

Without the large amount of material and monetary support America provides to keep Israel's military the strongest in the region, they would get steamrolled by their neighbors. Probably not immediately, but it would be inevitable. Note that I'm not saying anything about whether this is right or wrong from any ethical point of view in any direction, simply that it absolutely would happen. For whatever reason it has consistently been the policy of the American government not to let this happen.

Israel's very existence as a modern state has been, shall we say, deeply unpopular with its Arab neighbors literally since day one.

18
sh.itjust.works

the reason is that its free surveillance on the rest of the region. USA wants to keep an eye on countries they seem hostile and their interests (oil).

8

They also give our surveillance state their surveillance tech and cyberweapons they developed using Palestinians as guinea pigs. They host our police departments and teach them how to treat our citizenry like Palestinians as well.

Never been proven, and I'd bet against it. People overlook that 2024 was a bad year for incumbents overall.

2

Agreed. People on online politics spaces tend to be very informed and assume the average person is similarly informed. From convos I've overheard or the amount of basic questions I've had to answer, I don't think the average American has even heard of Gaza/West Bank/Palestine/Hamas or Netanyahu and probably only know Israel because it's in the Bible.

3

How did Israel transition from a US base in the Middle East into the country that visibly holds the keys? Blackmail? Money? Religion? What the hell happened?

49

I find myself asking this question more and more... But not just the US. How the fuck does Israel have so much power over so many countries. Like just look at the UK and how they're treating anyone even protesting for Palestine. It's insane how much power they have over so many countries... I just don't understand how.

36
nandeEbisureply

The Holocaust was real, and it's important to not forget atrocities because as we can see we slip back into them very quickly.

My main issue with HOW the Holocaust lives in the modern western conscious is that it drowns out plenty of other genocides, from the Armenian genocide and the Bengal famine up to more recent ones in Gaza and the Congo. It's ridiculous to compare genocides as if they can be distilled to a number and compared, but the framing of the Holocaust as worse than the other genocides is so counterproductive to developing the empathy necessary to prevent this kind of thing in the future.

I mean the Holocaust literally happened and Europe and they're full of racism against romani and recent migrants. People shit on the USA for having a checkered past but at least we know about it. The number of brits who don't even know about their atrocities in Ireland, their backyard, is nuts. That's not even counting what happened in their colonies. I talked with a Belgian once who wasn't aware of how bad their colony in the Congo was.

26

We should be milking it more. And some people are.

Because what's happening in Gaza isn't much different. Slightly less organized. Equally inhumane and unhuman.

11

US wanted a “friend” in the middle east to ensure access to oil.

No, thats BS -- trying to blame the Us for zionisms crimes. The Nakba wasnt a US invention and that happened right after ww2. Zionism is not America's fault and does not benefit America at all. Its pure cost and always has been. America already has better friends in the middle east to access oil. It does not need anything from Israel at all-- not commerically, strategically, diplomatically, and things would be smoother oil-access wise if Israeli religious terrorists werent present in the region. We're there because zionists have money. Some of which we gave them.

5

Money. Politics is always all about money. Not ideals/virtues. Not borders. Not cultures. Not ideas. Not what the people need.

Ghislaines dad was an Israeli agent

It's so insane. It's just blatant they dictate our foreign policy at this point.

10

And it's disappointing that the Dems are scared of doing without the election funding.

I get it. It's understandable that they don't trust voters to look past name recognition and ads. But... I still think it's a bad call. Being beholden to Israel isn't worth it, even if it makes us more likely to lose elections.

Call your Dems. Tell them you want transparency in funding, even if it is AIPAC.

Dems as a party could make a big show of rejecting AIPAC altogether and returning all the money. That'd buy them more publicity and goodwill than ads can buy. At least the next cycle.

4

Good question, but it's important to note that they only have as much power as they do because they're being allowed to do so by the US political establishment. It's not like Israel is writing US foreign policy in the Middle East from the ground up; US foreign policy just happens to be close enough to what Israel wants to do that that's what it looks like. That's the base on top of which the blackmail, money and religion are acting, as evidenced by how none of those factors would ever make America act like this with, say, China.

2

I've never felt the need for the "we are not the same" meme before reading this .

Sheldon had a lifetime total donation figure of $273 million, while as of the publishing of their profile, Miriam had a total of $284 million.[6]

Miriam Adelson has been described by major news outlets, including Reuters and Bloomberg, as a significant financial supporter of pro-Israel political causes in the United States, contributing substantial funding to Republican-aligned political initiatives and organizations supporting U.S.–Israel relations.

Wow.

MAGA will absolutely not shut up about George Soros and Jewish conspiracies, but… this is okay?

It’s what’s so frustrating.

It seems the Democrat side absolutely revels in peeling each other apart (see: Lemmy), but US Republicans have horse blinders on. Their leaders can do no wrong; unity comes first. They will rail and rail and rail on something the Democrats are doing when their own party is already doing it too.

…I know why, or at least I think I do.

It all ties into “worship culture” and parasocial relationships like the evangelical church, talk radio, Tech Bros, and similar structures that seem to occur more in conservative zones. It’s a pseudo-religious “unity and belief” mindset.

…And Democrat’s indulgence in ragebait. And tribalism.

But it’s still crazy. Democrats will eat each other alive over some tiny detail or controversy, but even raging internet antisemites, who proudly follow Trump, will slide their eyes right over this little detail.

4
lemmy.world

Total B.S. I was on topic. Trump and MAGA are not the philosophical offspring of Reagan. They are a mutation. They hijacked the party. Trump is the polar opposite of Reagan.

Reaganomics beat the shit out of whatever Carter was doing in the 70's; gas shortages with long lines, hyperinflation, mortgage rates went from 8.85% to 16.64% in 4 years. You may well not like Reaganomics, but it damn well saved the country from stagflation.

Reagan was a self deprecating optimist who believed that America is that shining city on a hill whose best days lie before her. Trump is a loud mouth, divisive, egotistical piece of shit, who is only out for himself and will persecute you to the end of the earth for saying anything bad about him. Their policies, politics, personalities, agendas, world view, are completely opposite.

It's really not difficult to disagree without being disagreeable. I think we all pretty much agree that we need to get this chubby, cheating, Cheeto in chief outta there. In the meantime, liberals and conservatives can have lively debates without making it personal.

Reaganomics only helped the capitalist class. The only thing to "trickle down" is piss on the working class. We see the long term results of that today.

Reagan laughed and cut funding while gay people died during the worst of the AIDS epidemic. Closing state mental hospitals ballooned the homeless population. Then , of course there's the Iran-Contra affair.

We can agree that Trump needs to go, but what comes after is more important and Reaganite policies will not help us. You insulted my intelligence in the first sentence you wrote to me, so forgive me if I have trouble believing you about not getting personal.

4

OK let's talk about the Iran contra issue.

I watched the hearings on CSPAN EVERY SINGLE DAY!

So. Ollie North overcharged the Iranians for weapons and used the proceeds to fund the Contras. What exactly is your problem with that? Check one box only please.

  1. He overcharged the Iranians for arms.

  2. He used the proceeds to stave off a legitimately evil, hateful, genocidal regime.

One box only please!

-2
lemmy.world

Well you insulted my hero. Not trump! I would consider trump and Reagan as 2 poles on the opposite sides of a sphere. Think north and south pole. Trump is actually more like a virus that caused a genetic mutation. No joke.

  1. I've been the employer that hired people to do their job. Trust me, it's not just taking money in, and laughing all the way to the bank. Every dollar that i saved is another dollar I can sink into the company or pay higher wages. "OH wait, company xyz offered you 10% more? I can match that" . I need a buffer. I was not a "capitalist class" . How many complainers have actually run a business that employed people, and had to meet payroll , and had to meet payroll taxes and keep their employees and customers happy?

  2. I was there when HIV became an issue. We had no idea what caused it, how it spread, or what to do about it. It took some time. I was there!

  3. No Reagan didn't "laugh" when gay people died. - give me 1 unbiased, verifiable link to substantiate that claim.

  4. I'm very sorry but we are 39 trillion dollars in the hole, as laudable as providing state hospitals may have been, we can not afford it at this time. Find a better way. So, what, we'd be like 44 trillion in debt. Is that the inheritance you want to leave your kids?

As a business owner I've had to balance budgets for decades. I would've loved to buy that greatest, tech wizzbang thing; it would save/ make so much money. Sorry. Just cant afford it. Like it or not, the BBB allows companies to fully depreciate an asset in the 1st year (i had to wait decades) freeing up more cash to pay higher wages.

I hate DJT. He is everything Reagan was not.

I WON'T ALLOW ANYONE TO SULLY THE NAME OF REAGAN BY ASSOCIATING IT WITH TRUMP TO TRY TO FURTHER THEIR POLITICAL AGENDA! IT IS DISINGENUOUS TO SAY THE LEAST.

DJT and the maga agenda must be hamstriged, hogtied, disabled, overridden, axed, rendered useless, shutdown, crippled, discombobulated, to say the least.

Hey brainiac!

When Reagan was lying in the hospital after someone tried to kill him, most visitors were turned away. One of his first visitors was his good friend, speaker of the house, Tip O'Neil.

Reagan lit up when here saw his friend. Tip O'Neil knelt down and prayed for his friend and kissed him on the forehead.

People who take politics personally, jab the other side, and question their motives are straight up wack, haters. That's not sane.

The true source of the problem is Israeli zionists knowing that what they print in their country has actual influence over the policies and decisions of the leader of a foreign state. That just shouldn't matter to the USA president. Our leaders should be mindful of how our nation appears in the eyes of the world, but a USA leader should wipe their ass with direct confrontation like this when they refuse to do zionists' biddings.
