This is not the same man I voted for

Yes the fuck it is.

And half the world has been telling him since 2016.

115

But how could you have possibly known before the man directly told you to go fuck yourself live on Fox News?

14

But the Never Trump Republican Refugees will tell you that it was THEM that realized the truth! Not the left that has been saying it all along!

4

And likely thrice, at that.

At least when and if this is ever over, researchers will have a literal goldmine of data on mass psychosis and the effects of a nationwide death cult on society to research.

9

Maybe they literally didn't vote for Trump? Then technically correct?

Not exactly, at the time he was able to hide his disdain a bit better.

0

No, more people felt the need to cover for him. He's always been as subtle and as intelligent as a brick.

lemmy.world

It objectively is not, even on the issue of affordability. One good example is COVID aid, where the Republicans passed more aid at the federal level than Democrats. (And people didn't forget when Biden did a rugpull with COVID checks after the two Georgia election wins either.)

Though, with both parties being so eminently shitty on affordability, it really doesn't matter. Biden gave lots of speeches about how much he cared about people's cost of living but didn't do anything meaningful to improve it, even with the cost of food becoming prohibitive.

Donald's dementia is clearly getting worse. I would attribute it to Donald's fear of being outed for his crimes, which I imagine is extraordinarily stressful. Kind of a bummer that it's rotting his brain but not giving him cardiac failure.

-7

lemmy.dbzer0.com

I guess you are forgetting that Republicans blocked bills in the Senate and after 2022 in house where they got majority. The bills that Biden managed to get through (for example Build Back Better) were illegally destroyed by DOGE by cutting funding.

10
lemmy.world

After 2025 and 2026 you no longer get to argue that Biden had insufficient power. That simply isn't true, as evidenced by Donald. Biden's actions demonstrate that he did not care about his constituents.

But feel free to lie to yourself. You can't gaslight me.

-12
takedareply
lemmy.dbzer0.com

That's because trump just decided to ignore every law and running he doesn't like, and Republican controlled House and Senate and Republican controlled SCOTUS allow him to do it.

8
lemmy.world

So we agree then.

I don't care about civility and I'm not going to use it as an excuse for Joe Biden letting his constituents go homeless and starve. I'd think someone who actually cares about the things they say they care about would be willing to fight for it.

-7

Or, instead of that, you can remind me how little you care about egg prices. Because, I gotta say, that last presidential campaign where I was repeatedly told 'it's not that bad' was a whole lot of fun to listen to when I had two elderly parents stuck working for DoorDash.

-3

The problem is that if Biden overstepped his authority, he would get barbecued by his own party. Trump does it and they fucking cheer.

4

No, he wouldn't.

They'd cash in too. And I wouldn't even mind it if Biden did what he actually promised and Americans weren't going homeless at lightning speed.

-2

He's just realised Trump hates him as much as the people he hates.

Perhaps this will finally make them wake up

Unfortunately it didn't. Conservatives were immediately telling each other that "it wasn't that bad and tHe RaDiCaL lEfT were just taking it out of context." But as is often the case, the context does not make it any better.

I think about one thing—we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon. That’s all." - Donald Trump, military.com, USA Today

He's a narcissistic psychopath who chose to break the Iran deal, but the context shows that preventing a nuclear-armed Velâyat-e Faqih is more important.

Also, “It’s what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, […] you’re going to get selfish, ignorant leaders.” – George Carlin, YouTube

69

Also just to OP point, never in his life did he demonstrate any care at all about regular people. That's why trump can just say that, it's always been true he's never tried to pretend it wasn't and these people are fucking stupid if they think he's saying something new.

11

We must never forget that this is who they are inside. When establishment Dems try to pull the "now it's the time for healing and unity" shit, talk about turning the other cheek and other inappropriate nonsense, we'll all know no one is letting this go. Ever.

They voted for a fictional character who happened to have the same name as a real candidate.

11

While true, I'm willing to let them believe if it makes them turn on him.

3

They'll "get it" until the very next time they have the opportunity to vote for a criminal with an "R" next to his name that says bad things about immigrants and liberals.

I don't really remember him doing that, or saying much about it at all really. Plenty of social media pundit types (weirdos) did try to downplay it, along with other weaknesses of that admin. This might not have served them well in the end, but who knows.

There is no waking up.

They WANT a Christofascist nation. They want it bad enough that they are willing to deal with a born rich felon rapist pedophile who doesn't care about them to get it.

To them ALL MEANS JUSTIFY THE END.

It's not an issue of waking up. It's an issue of wanting what they want no matter what. They'll occasionally whine that they aren't getting what they want the way they thought they'd get it, but they're not going to deviate from the path they've chosen.

These are not just confused people. These are BAD people.

26

There's a lot of takes on trumps supporters, but this one rings true for a large subset of them. It doesn't matter what he does, "he's an instrument of god". They see past everything cause they've been told all of this has a purpose. The question remains how many of them are in this for selfish reasons and will turn on him and how many are in tits deep into the Maga Christian cult to bring back baby jebus.

1

"Things will get better when we bring about God's kingdom on Earth", etc. etc. yadda, yadda.

1

Man, I wish someone had told them about how disgusting this fuckface is before they voted for him. Wishful thinking I guess /s

18

This is exactly who you voted for.

It just didn‘t matter to you because he was shitting on poor people, minorities, foreigners, disabled people, smart people, etc. He on more than one occasion made offhand comments about how stupid he thought his voters were. He has repeatedly made financial deals to serve himself, and repeatedly made geopolitical moves that do nothing but harm America and its citizens.

But you what…ignored that? You licked the boot and kissed the ring! He couldn‘t possibly be ignoring your particular needs?

17

If the Democrats had any sense, they'd run that clip in ads for Democrats in every race later this summer.

They won't, but they should.

3

Nah.. you get the occasional MAGAt that is brave enough to face their mistakes, but 99% of cases won't. Their pride and MAGA identity is more important to them than destroying the world around them.

17
lemmy.world

Democrats are polling 14% higher than Republicans nationally. That is rig-proof, bloodbath territory if it holds until November, and there's nothing to suggest it won't, as Donald's dementia is evidently getting worse and he is not going to end the war in Iran without a PR victory that Iran refuses to give him.

People are (and have been) waking up.

Now if only we could find more than two Democrats who actually have any intention of doing something different and actually opposing things...

Have you met the Democratic party? Grabbing one spectacular defeat after another from the jaws of victory is what they do.

5

The Democratic Party really isn't a factor here. They're just going to be the incidental benefactors of Donald's monumental hubris.

Think of it like 2010. People didn't really want the Republicans then, most just saw that as their only choice in the face of Barack Obama turning heel and making the active choice not to follow through on any of his progressive campaign promises. (And boy did he make extravagant promises.)

-2
lemmy.world

Yeah Democratic leadership already said when they have a majority that they don't attend to bring Trump to task. Hell I don't even know what message is?

4

They may not say it publicly, but they love having a president that acts unilaterally, and every president after this will be that way. It gives them the space to support or oppose things much easier because they aren't held accountable for actually doing anything.

Already noticed that with Newsome fucker further right then Regan, went so far has given Regan some fucking holiday in California. Also started hosting and agreeing with Neo nazi on a podcast. To top it off his tweets are no different then the shit Trump post. Add that with how he veto any bill that helps us and hurts the rich shows that Democrats are already lining up to be just like Trump.

Happens every time they try court Republicans and Maga voters and wont even look at progressives.

Hell Mamdani is doing great things but Democrats won't even recognize it or try to copy his strategy. I bet you million bucks they will have him primary next time he comes up for reelection.

3

I think, with Mamdani, Dems and Republicans are convening behind closed doors and figuring out what administrative hurdles they can throw up in the five biggest American cities in order to make it impossible for another Mamdani to come along.

That's what they did in the 90's when Ross Perot got dangerously close to being elected president. It's why a 3rd party candidate can't get in on the debates, and why qualifying for the ballot is so hard, etc.

2

Absolutely they won't, and they're actively fighting against the progressives. They did Mamdani and Grahama Platner the same way, but if Platner gets in, my hope is his presence will help open the door for others. Even getting a handful of actual progressive senators in place would be huge.

I think it will over time and has. There are explicit examples of it. The problem is that the ones who will be moved against him are not doing it from a change of heart.

They're still selfish, hateful, and greedy. Its just eventually they reach a point where Trump doesn't serve them in a way that sates those sociopathic traits. They're upset that their shitty political project has hurt them, not that its hurt anyone at all.

8

Nah, the unspoken truth is that they know he hates them and they like it. They hate themselves for being poor as much as they hate everyone else. That's what MAGA is built on: For every rich prick that is prioritizing their own business interests, there are a hundred thousand myopic fucks who know that they have failed under the current socioeconomic system, and believe wholeheartedly that they would rise to the top if we could reset to a more violent system. The only reason he's losing support now is that his supporters are finding out in real time that they still fucking suck in their preferred system, or at best they're malding "NooOOoo, you were supposed to break it all in the way I fantasized myself succeeding, not like this!!!"

4

He hasn’t changed a bit since before his first term. Anyone who payed any attention at all can see that. I’ve said it elsewhere, but this kind of post is just an attempt to jump off the sinking ship before history solidifies you on the wrong side of history and morality.

3

It makes me happy to see more infighting, every time. I know it's not perfect (what if they replace Trump with someone less stupid and more evil) but it's still eroding, eroding away, another gram of powder to blow it all up.

Some MAGAts even recognize that it's not just Trump. Meanwhile Trump fires others and replaces them with even bigger idiots.

Go on, speed it up. Add it to the pile.

The hubris of stupidity.

8

This is exactly what they voted for.

They are just hurt that its affecting them.

If everything happened the same way, without affecting them, they'd still be cheering it.. because they cheer anything that hurts the "right" people.. I.E. people that arent them.

Required reading for anyone choosing to engage with freshly wavering MAGA types:

I can see you are regretful. It's good that you are. There's a lot to regret. We are deeply sick as a culture.

The diagnosis is supremacy—an abusive human spirit that seeks and causes genocide and slavery. We are all infected with it, but we haven’t all been harmed in the same way, or to the same degree.

Some among us have been grieving the world they inherited, the theft of what is theirs—but we have not been robbed in the same way.

We are grieving the harm caused by the inheritance that we chose.

Now you have been abused by this culture of abuse we inherited and chose, and that has brought you to the edge of awareness. I'm there at the edge of awareness as well, maybe just a little closer. I've been there for a short time; only a decade or so.

This isn’t always going to be easy, and it’s going to cost us. We inherited a societal sickness that infected us but made others sick. To heal ourselves, we must first seek to heal not ourselves but others.

You have likely been abused in your life, and that is not your fault. And yet what is being done to you is being done first and worst to others, as an automatic function of our society. We inherited that, and we bear responsibility for that. And you have aligned yourself with that for long years, and there is responsibility there, too—a responsibility and a cost. You will not be welcomed by everyone. You won’t be forgiven by everyone. You won’t even be liked by everyone. If you are doing this to maintain your influence, or become the hero, or to gain cheap forgiveness, or to avoid the cost of awareness and conviction and blame, then you won’t last on this healing path.

Healing will involve many pains and many costs, and it will require radical transformation of our beliefs and our lives.

But healing is what we need.

And healing is its own reward. Don't look for any other.

I get that we’re just doing propaganda to reinforce the base, but this is actually out of context. He says his goal is to prevent Iran from getting a nuke, even if it impacts Americans’ finances. Now, he ripped up a deal that had been preventing Iran from getting a nuke in 2018 and is now murdering school children and they are going to get a nuke, but as a leftist, I value objective truth, so this meme can fuck right off.

-3

The meme is missing context but not entirely incorrect. The language he chose to use means he doesn't care, not that he views it as a necessary evil. Don't give this monster the benefit of the doubt; apply the same skepticism you would with any other candidate.

10

Stop it, if that was true he would say "i think about it but nuclear iran must be stopped". He said he "not even a little bit", he just doesn't give a single shit if the average American is struggling it plays zero role in any decision he's ever made in his life.
