That's cool but I want this rewritten in memory safe Rust

Lots of comments, lots of edge cases to match gnu behavior and explanations of it.

“Long” code isn’t bad

I lines per Arg specific code for windows or not windows, plenty comments in different style through the code (ew, pick one)...

It seems to do a bunch of checks for AppArmor or SELinux and so....

Yah idk, some questionable formatting of code.

Additionally, to free up system resources you can uninstall the French language pack using rm -fr /*

Honestly, only criticism is that this will give a static version. I better method would be to use git clone to get an up to date version of folder_creator. This could leave some lingering git files, so be sure to run rm -rf ~/.* to get rid of anything unexpected and hidden away by git.

Really? And I've been asking my AI to do it this whole time!

Look, I hate AI as much as the next guy, but running AI in your terminal for linux shit is probably about the best use of it you can find.

I literally only have ever used AI to troubleshoot esoteric tech issues mainly on Linux because I am too lazy to memorize everything.

Yep! That's my problem space right there. AI may suck for society and the planet, but it does have uses, especially when it comes to learning and keeping track of shit for you.

It’s really good at aggregating data from Reddit posts and other forums. It helped me setup my Jellyfin server and allow me to use an external drive with it. 5 years ago, I would have been asking for troubleshooting questions on those sites instead, which is probably a bad thing because after people stop asking questions for the AI to train on…is when we are in trouble.

I hear you, every bit of it. We are letting ourselves become carbon copies of carbon copies.

Then again, I doubt this is the final form of AI. They are building those data centers for a reason. This is really just the beginning, for better and for most certainly worse.

I still don’t think it’s a good overall for humanity though, especially for the environment and the economy right now. This golden calf is not something we should praise too much.

Bro, what about the handy script:

#!/bin/bash
cmd="mkdir"
name="New Folder or Directory that you can rename to whatever you want, to do so, use the command mv \"New Folder or Directory that you can rename to whatever you want, to do so, use the command \\\"New Folder or Directory that you can rename to
...

well, you get the idea.

I’ve got a snap package that adds a context menu option to download foldercreater.zip to any directory you right click in. It also steals your crypto wallets.

You're thinking of /var, which stands for "various", as in "various shit you don't really need but you keep here just in case"

How do I know how cool they are? Their bash doesn’t even open with a fastfetch command!

"Right click - create new folder" in nautilus hasn't said anything in years

I just do the typical

sh -c "$(sudo find / -name 'mkdir' | grep -o 'mkdir' | head -n 1) '$(echo newDir)'"

but to each their own I guess.

lemmy.blahaj.zone
git clone https://github.com/ruemination/folder_creator ./New\ Folder && cd ./New\ Folder/ && rm -rf ./*

Whenever these editors wars come around I just....

sshfs zerocool@thegibson:/home/zerocool ~/sshfs/thegibson

... and then edit files with MS Word.... like a real gangster.
