It worked best when YT had banner ads instead of video ads. Today you get Wix rolled for a minute or two before you get to the Rick.

I watch YouTube on a TV, as the good lawd intended, not on a pocket screen.

Then God's sake, pay the $13 a month. You get YouTube music included, which has damn near everything.

Don't let your brain get destroyed.

I don't get YouTube ads. Between my Pihole and Ublock, I see nothing.

Good, just check it in on your health. Those things are invasive. Not even sure I trust a person that listens to ads on YouTube.

2

Fool me once shame on you.
Fool me twice and "I just wanted to check how many views it had by now that's all."

you can't troll me, youtube is currently A/B testing me by banning my IP unless I login which I rarely do.

Me too. Are we sure there even is a B in this A/B test?

Just shuffle through a few vpn servers until it works. Always does the trick for me ¯\(ツ)

Edit: same goes for commenting with a lemmy.world account

Saw an interview with him last night. They were totally unprepared to film that video, amateur hour. He was young and scared shitless, made up the dance on the spot. Guy doing backflips? "Hey guys! Watch what I can do!" In the video he went. There was a guy yelling out his apartment window for them the shut the fuck up down there. Wardrobe? Nope, those were his own clothes.

Not nearly as big of a story but you should hear about BER - The Night Begins to Shine..

  • Written in 2005 as an assignment to "create an 80s-style song for a music library's
  • In 2014, appeared in an episode of Teen Titans Go for fewer than 10s as a throwaway joke.
  • Immediately Hit #23 in Billboard charts
  • Inspired TTG to make followup miniseries with covers by bands like Fallout Boy and Ceelo Green

And on that thread, Subways of your Mind by FEX. A group of West German friends who recorded music together but were never picked up had a recording of their song on the radio from the 80s become "The most mysterious song on the internet" which led to them getting back together and making new music in the 2020s.

3

Fallout Boy (or, specifically, Patrick Stump) also does the theme song for "Spidey and His Amazing Friends" and "Hot Wheels: Let's Race!"

This thread did a great job showing which lemmy instance users can't be taken seriously lol.

they had the song on the radio while i was driving, wonder if that count as getting rick rolled 🤔

14

My boyfriend and I share a spotify account and when one of us notices the other one is listening we insert the song into the queue. Most of the time my boyfriend doesn't even notice he is getting rickrolled.

3

I didn't have the url in my browser history, but I just typed it from memory

To make you check and rickroll you indirectly. Iťs an edited screenshot, you don't see metadata of unavailable videos

.... So not only I got Rick Rolled in 2026, I actually went there myself, like a double tap.

Nicely done!
