Censoring "shoot" now? Wtf. If you need to censor such inoffensive words to post something to a platform, you should get off that platform.

Fuck I hate sanitised internet.

How dare you say the M word! No one should ever say that, you sick bastard!!

I'm definitely boring and my porn preferences are weird but sadly this does not mean corporations and governments aren't monitoring all my shit 🫩

12

Better, if you're weird but not freaky, then ya got nothin' to justify the weirdness

I agree wholeheartedly, but this wasn't funny even without censorship.

Let’s celebrate the Fediverse by saying the seven deadly words for TV

shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker and tits

If people can't stay off the more restrictive, corporate-friendly platforms, they should at least avoid dumping the censored shit here as well. Going to start blocking individual users...

10

This is just a worse version of a Family Guy cutaway gag of the same context. And censored shittily. Fuck this post.

God I wish the Ameri pigs were on meds but they're taking ketamine because antidepressants are bad for you or something

Is it just Americans? My understanding that most mainstream platforms were full of this bullshit.

2

Wherever this was originally shared\posted, someone circumvented the site's detector bot for blocked words by paint-brushing over the word(s)... but still readable to humans.
It's an annoying new trend.

6

Why don’t they just post somewhere that won’t block it then? Surely the point of this is that children would be safe there, so this just screws everybody.

5

The most impressive thing I have learned about Americans from TV and movies is that they have sex with all their underwear on, so that when they get out of bed they don't accidentally glimpse each other's private parts.

It's funny how some people's impression of a UK accent is how the royals sound, when in reality the UK has the most diverse accents of any english speaking country i know of

10

I feel like it's just recognized more than the myriad of accents across America. There are so many accents just in a single city, let alone across the whole country. For example, you might hear about 3 or 4 different accents in San Francisco, and then hear 5 or 6 totally different ones in Los Angeles.

I don't think US accents are nearly as diverse per area as the UK, but i guess that's just my impression, I've never read a study on it or anything

5

The US may be big, but the UK had more centuries of existence before the unifying effect of national TV and radio.

This wikipedia article boldly asserts that "The UK has the most local accents of any English-speaking country" but the claim is [citation needed].

4

Well "per area" is vastly different purely from a geographical standpoint. Much bigger country and the UK is a much more densely populated place.

4

you might hear about 3 or 4 different accents in San Francisco, and then hear 5 or 6 totally different ones in Los Angeles.

Pffft. I have a different accent to my wife. And my dog.

Then add in all the many Scots accents and dialects, Scots Gaelic, Welsh and Welsh-accented English. Hardly anyone speaks RP (received pronunciation, ie posh) any more. Even the royals have toned it down. The late queen was really plummy back in the 50s. https://youtu.be/Ga-UcoJzsHg

Interesting, her accent has really changed a lot to become more regular sounding. I would guess in the old recording she was actively putting on the ridiculous accent, because the royals are all about projecting a posh image. Like i bet she did a lot of elocution training to purposely teach her how to sound that way

1

Her whole family and their aristocratic social circle spoke like that, she grew up speaking like that. She's not putting it on, that's who she was. The growing pressure for royalty to be less aloof forced a gradual move to more "normal" speech from about the 70s. At the same time, broadcasters were starting to hire people with (gasp) regional accents. Previously anyone aspiring to be a newsreader etc had to speak RP, "the queen's English".

British is more like: oy plough me harda guvunah. Please plough me in me khyber pass.

Well there are many figurative forma in english that include guns. Being a big caliber, taking a shot, troubleshooting...

Coming from just a comedic point of view mentioning school shootings when talking about the US is bottom of the barrel humor, not because it's too offensive it's just hack and overdone at this point.

Just get a new joke

3

The jokes will stop when the school shootings stop.

Until then:

13

Even the UK foppish sex joke is pretty old. I remember a Dana Carvey special from 1995 making the same joke about the infamous Hugh Grant blowjob.

9

It's also a disproportionate response. "British people talk funny" gets "American school children are regularly shot at school, lol tragedy".

3

Does anybody else feel like it's time to stop complaining about dumb censorship? Everybody here agrees and the people who should see it never will. It's so pointless. Right now the top four comments here are useless complaints. Maybe I should start a new trend and complain about the complaints. People can then complain about that, until it's complaints all the way down.

Reposting censored content is just as annoying as censoring it yourself.

Honestly it should be a reason to remove posts. Either find the fucking original or fuck off is my opinion.

those people dont complaint, they are just virtue signaling: They show they belong to the site by repeating what everybody say on lemmy (a way to reiterate lemmy values, some of them are good, some are bad, and most are repeated without even knowing how good or bad they are, just to show you belong) . It has no meaning except for themselves.
