Mr Bruce hears the same joke at least every week, so it isnt funny to him anymore. Everyone else either didnt get it or rolled their eyes.

It's especially fun if your name is similar to a comic character that you don't care for

Source: have a name that's similar to an anti-villain

Edit: y'all are cracking me up!

Yuan Fang?

(He is just plain evil and selfish but edgy highschoolers call him anti-hero so...)

Anti-Villains are somewhat the opposite of Anti-Heroes. While the Anti-Hero often fights on the side of good, but with questionable or selfish motives and methods; the Anti-Villain plays a villain's game, but for a noble cause, or with respectable qualities, in a way that the audience or other characters can sympathize with. They may be more noble or heroic than an Anti-Hero, but the means to achieve their ends are often considered exploitative, immoral, unjust, or just evil.

So characters like Magneto or Poison Ivy

Meat Popsicle... Is your real name Beef Cane, Pork Rod, Tender Lollipop, Nugget Rattan or Jerky Pole?

I have a name which is jokable. You hear a lot of boring uninspired jokes, which gets old.

I dunno, this one sounds silly and fun, and I don't think everyone and their dog would have told it.

Surely the good ones are still funny, no?

1

Not for me. But Im old and cynical. I had a 25 year career during which I attended thousands and thousands of meetings with strangers.

Maybe they're all big comics nerds and are confused because Manbat's alter ego is Dr. Kirk Langstrom

fedia.io

I got it right away, but an even smaller amount of people would realize that there is a Manbat, a villain opposing Batman.

There is no Manspider btw, but there are a few artist conceptions, and they are horrible. Makes Manbat seem friendly.

There is no Manspider, sure. But Spiders-man is a real character, who is a sentient hive mind of radioactive spiders possessed by the spirit of Peter Parker after he fell into their enclosure and was devoured.

Comics are weird

Simply replace it with knowledge of other obscure spiders' men.

Like Toei Spider-Man who was a regular motorcyclist who got a special armband from an alien from planet Spider that lets him transform into "The emissary of hell, Spider-Man". He then uses his newfound powers to stop The Iron Cross Army from blowing up the earth with the help of his giant robot Leopardon.

10

Wow, not only is that true, but he also had a giant robot that he used to fight monsters that was eventually used in Super Sentai!

I didn't see the bit about the robot in your comic initially, but it's really cool that this one predates the OG power rangers

1

Nope. Those little spiders are now crawling around in your brain, and every once in awhile, out of nowhere, they'll kick one of your neurons to remind you of Spidersman, whether you like it or not.

3

Damnit, I knew I should have read down to see if anyone mentioned spiders-man!

My favorite of the spider variants is spidersman. A swarm of spiders eats Peter parker and inherits his memories and abilities. So the swarm just suits up and becomes Peter parker. It's so dark, and so creepy that I love it lol. And there's a comments from miles in the miles Morales spiderman game where hesays "ya gotta watch out for spiders, man." And every time he says it I'm thinking he's telling these people to be careful of a swarm of spiders in a suit, as he's webbing up these criminals and it makes me chuckle. Like even miles is grossed out by the thought of it.

What's the timeline on that character? Wonder if someone over at Marvel was watching the Rick and Morty ep with the Vindicators and Millions of Ants.

Oh shit, maybe I'm wrong, I thought I'd read it before Rick and Morty came out

superior spiderman

Well @[email protected] mentioned Superior Spiderman which looks like it started in 2012, but I think the Spiders-Man character didn't show up until vol 2 which was later? I dunno, it's hard to tell the timeline from the wikipedia article and I'm not sure exactly which individual wiki to check for definitive comic book timelines. I read comics stuff occasionally but I'm not very tapped into the community at large.

Savage Spider-Man would visually be the closest thing I guess we have

There is a Batman villain or tragic anti-hero named "Manbat" whose real name is Kirk Langstrom. Perhaps Wayne Bruce was confused by being called by the name Langstrom's alter ego.

Man, it is such a sad sight IRL when no one gets it. They're confused asking what you're talking about. You try explaining and they're all acting like this is some in comprehensible nonsense that they can't understand and isn't funny.

The only thing worse is when only one person gets it and no one else does. Now you've got one person laughing saying "I see what you did there" and then having to explain to the others.

12

I agree with the first point, but "only one person getting it" is how friendships are often made.

Friendship arises out of mere Companionship when two or more of the companions discover that they have in common some insight or interest or even taste which the others do not share and which, till that moment, each believed to be his own unique treasure (or burden). The typical expression of opening Friendship would be something like, “What? You too? I thought I was the only one.” We can imagine that among those early hunters and warriors single individuals — one in a century? one in a thousand years? — saw what others did not; saw that the deer was beautiful as well as edible, that hunting was fun as well as necessary, dreamed that his gods might be not only powerful but holy. But as long as each of these percipient persons dies without finding a kindred soul, nothing (I suspect) will come of it; art or sport or spiritual religion will not be born. It is when two such persons discover one another, when, whether with immense difficulties and semi-articulate fumblings or with what would seem to us amazing and elliptical speed, they share their vision — it is then that Friendship is born. And instantly they stand together in an immense solitude. (C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves)

Neither the book, nor ol' Clive himself, are without issues. His definitions can be a little questionable. But he had a hell of a way with words.

It's just pavlovian at this point. You've screenshot something, so naturally you have to blur the name and profile picture. Zero thought involved.

Ironically it's really hard to find the original source because this is being shared and reshared so often and I gave up after 6 seconds

Once saw a guy named Wayne Batman. He was in his eighties, and this was the early 2000's, so he actually predated Batman.

5
lemmy.world

I'm trying to decipher what year he was born. Possibilities begin with any numbers round on top. Like 1000 A.D.

Or 1888.

Or 1988.

Or 1999.

1

I'm pretty sure it's 1990. The two digits in the middle start curving in the image, while the last one doesn't.
