Am I the only one that thinks 90% of the people in the clowns orbit should be put in homes for the elderly and insane?

We've got bro getting ready to fingerpaint with pudding and queen karen-de-ville realizing the voices are in the room with her.

It's only right that they experience homes for the insane as they were during their generation ;) I certainly wouldn't want them to feel out of place.

I really hate to make a remark about appearance, but she's got mad crazy person eyes. Most of the worst people I've ever met have that same look in their eyes.

Here I was thinking I was going to get nuked, but it looks like all of you have seen this shit and have been willing to run some yellow tape.

12

There's always a look to it. As long as you keep in mind that it can be wrong and adjust your view of people accordingly if corrected, it's not super wrong to judge by appearances

12

That's exactly what I do, I just couldn't put it into words. Thank you

That said, I've seen a time or two where this bitch right here has done some wrongs, likely associated with one or more of those eyes.

3

Just in case you see her on a trolley track and mom said it's your turn to control the switch

Part of the reason we have a fascist infestation right now is you people's only response to the threat of our democracy collapsing is to fucking make harry potter memes

-16

Humor is how people cope with the bullshit happening all around us. If anything, humor is what keeps people going. No part of that joke minimizes the threat to democracy in my mind. Quite the contrary, it makes the threat manageable without succumbing to misery and giving up. We can do two things at once.

16

We're having nationwide protests today called Rage Against the Regime, if that helps any. Some tiny amount anyways. They're not talked about like the No Kings protests were tho. I'm assuming we'll start protests every weekend at some point

A lot of people I'm convinced look at the administrations hijinks as entertainment. Gallows humor maybe but humor nonetheless. I am so sick of seeing Trump et al treating leadership as a joke.

Here’s an excerpt from one of the posts on it

Counter Vlad Surkov techniques and methods

Introduction to the Kremlin media techniques of year 2014

  1. Peter Pomerantsev September 9, 2014: Russia and the Menace of Unreality. How Vladimir Putin is revolutionizing information warfare

  2. Adam Curtis, BBC, December 31, 2014: On The "Contradictory Vaudeville" Of Post-Modern Politics - "What this film is going to suggest is that that defeatist response has become a central part of a new system of political control. And to understand how this is happening, you have to look to Russia, to a man called Vladislav Surkov, who is a hero of our time. Surkov is one of President Putin's advisers, and has helped him maintain his power for 15 years, but he has done it in a very new way."

  3. Book reading from December 5, 2014 on the subject by Peter Pomerantsev

I've read plenty of books, and I'm not really a huge Potter fan but it happens that my kids were re watching the old movies.

Still, Umbridge stands in my mind as one a great example of somebody who assists evil by hamstringing good and chipping away at hope, all while stating "this is for your own good" mentality.

It's one of the few TV characters that actually made me angry because she's so believable

"Lemmoids", shit dude, is there even any place you feel at home at this point?

There is no public forum not infested with the alt-right, so no, there is no digital home for sane people on the internet anymore

Is appearance really the first thing it occurs to you to comment on?

EDIT: "Yes, body-shaming is indeed my chief concern, hence my comments based on candid photos" was the response. Cringe.

Ah shit, you're right, I almost forgot that people have no control over their facial expression!

17

TBF you film anyone long enough you're going to capture some strange expressions.

Disclaimer: this is in no way a defense of her. Just a general statement.

3

I haven't seen the show, but the premise of "The Thick of It" is that the real powerful figures are staffers, not the politicians themselves.

23

You must! It's easily my favourite comedy show of the 00s, but if you're not a Brit you'll probably need subs, lol.

No. She looks like a regular elder Karen suburbanite. I'd wager if you take a regular and give it the same power as her, it would turn out just like her. Hopefully less successful.

First woman to hold the position of white house chief of staff. Well done ladies. Way to hit the ground running.

17
lemmy.world

Looking at this crowd of people it’s hilarious to see people actually wearing that ridiculous hat. Do people actually do this in the US? 😂

15
lemmy.blahaj.zone

The hats are just the tip of the iceberg. Political apparel isn't anything new, but it's usually just reserved for election years. For a lot in MAGA, it's everyday. And it's not just clothing.

Driving through rural areas or small towns, the amount of Trump flags flying in front of homes today, well after the election, is staggering. Flags are what get me because I can't think of any other candidate who had their name on a flag that people actually flew alongside of or in place of the American flag. I do not remember ever seeing Bush flags, or Obama flags, or Biden flags. This is different. This idolatry is not normal.

23

They're Nazis. Enough said.

They're so weak they want to bootlick a fascist rather than to stand up for themselves.

2

Yes. Not even at rallies. People wear trump hats really in public. It's embarrassing

18

Fucking hell, you'd think being the most powerful woman in the US would afford you the ability to change your name from Willies

11

I was a young adult under Clinton so this packed punch for me. Travolta nailed the role, and so did everyone else.

Won't spoil it but I'd love to chat after you see it!

1

Friendly reminder the guy who organised lenins calendar was bloody stalin. That's a level of discretionary control over a highly powerful individual that could basically let you choose the next president.

9

Pretty sure I can beat her in a fight. Not so powerful now, are we??

She controls his agenda. She sometimes takes decisions on his behalf.

... what exactly does "takes decisions on his behalf" mean? I've never "taken" someone else's decision, afaik... but I don't really know what that's supposed to mean, so whatever

6

Some people say “make a decision” and some people say “take a decision.” In my experience most Americans say “make a decision,” but both are valid and mean the same thing.

23
lemmy.world

No, some people say make decision, and some people make a typo, or just plain don’t have a decent rudimentary vocabulary.

she would be the female counterpart of thiel, thiel was pretty "close" vicinity to trump in his first term, and prior to jd vance spotlight. he has taken more of backdoor approach the 2nd time.

6

5

“She controls his agenda.”

Define agenda. Are we talking meetings calendar? Because people like Putin and Peter Thiel influence what Trump actually says and does.

5
scarabicreply
lemmy.world

Controlling the meeting calendar for the president is more than just the clerical work of a personal assistant. The president works and makes decisions by meeting with people. She decides who gets access to him today. She deflects people she doesn’t think are worth his time. Over the long run she can have extraordinary influence over him and what choices he has in front of him to make. She can effectively block people she doesn’t want to have any access. Thats a lot of power for someone most people don’t know by name.

19

Especially since he listens to whatever someone said to him most recently.

10

Besides what the other commenter replied, with Trump there's a special value in controlling his agenda because often the last person he talks to will have the most sway. There have been stories about his appointees taking advantage of a rival appointee being away or in a meeting, and getting Trump to issue an order or even just tweet a position on something so it's harder to walk back when someone else gets his ear.

10

White house chief of staff have incredible power. Sometimes they are referred to as the co-president even.

I'd disagree with the "never" part, in general. For example, it's probably good not to know how it feels to murder.
