APK says app not installed because it isn't compatible with your phone.

Hey, so I have a bunch of items that won't install, saying they're not compatible with my device. Thing is, they were all installed prior to my doing a reset. I just needed to get a fresh clean start after lots of testing stuff cluttered things.

OK so here are things to note: I'm using a Moto g stylus 5g 2023 (XT2315-1) genenv. Android 13. I have TWRP setup as my recovery, and I'm rooted with Magisk which is up to date.

I did not make any upgrades or downgrades of Android, I simple reset. Most things are working fine, but just some APKs won't install.

It is possible that I had previously had an LSposed (Xposed variant) module installed which dealt with this; all it is, is an arbitrary minAPI designation but in no way actually has a compatibility problem. But try as I might, I don't remember specifically installing a module to resolve this. Rather, I suspect perhaps it was dealt with inadvertently by something I happened to install. ¿maybe?

If anyone knows the solution to this, I'd be much-preesh.

File browser with good thumbnails view resizable SMB support?

Hey all, I've got a few apps I rely on daily, such as Total Commander, CX File Explorer and Material Files. Regarding my current needs, none suffice 🙁

The closest I guess would be Material Files, but it will only show a grid of two columns or just a list. I'd like to have the kind of flexibility of a typical desktop file browser like Explorer. Or on iOS FileBrowser by Stratospherix. That app is amazing but they don't make it for Android.

I've tried so many. On older devices I can use Asus File Explorer which comes stock on their phones, but I only have a version that's a little older, and it won't do SMB on my Androis 13 device. It works on older ones.

I've also tried out Astro and Amaze, they both have good and bad aspects but neither provides what I want.

Anyway, verbose post I know, but if you have any recommendations I would really appreciate it.

View and control an array of android devices' cameras

I'm looking for software (very preferably FOSS) that can achieve the following challenge:

I want to position numerous android devices and then using one separate device, view an array of all those devices' camera views, independently control at least minimally such as PTZ the frame and take pictures and videos - and take synced photos and videos commanding them all concurrently. The more features the better. And while I prefer a FOSS app for basic functionality, I would not be opposed to a moderate onetime price (no subs) for something that's fairly sophisticated.

Hoping I've made my needs clear, but let me know if not.

Thanks.

Looking for software that will allow keyboard/mouse to output to tablet via usb

Hey all,

I have a tablet that I’ve been working on and in order to setup OS I need to plugin a usb hub to the usb port, using an adapter to microUSB, ok, and then plugin either a keyboard and mouse or a combo unit (in my case, the wireless receiver device of a mini keyboard/touchpad device), and finally, the flash drive with the OS install on it.

To put it simply, it’s really a pain in the ass anytime I want to do some testing. It works, but it is a clutter and nuisance.

Is there any software that will allow me to plug in a USB cord from my laptop (Linux) and the other end into the USB port of the tablet, and use the laptop to control the tablet?

Thanks.

Good foss assistant app?

Hi all,

I'm wondering if there's anything out there that's decent for using voice command and natural language queries to help me - preferably one that can run on Android, but Linux would do also. Basically a FOSS version of Siri, but maybe more effective in terms of natural language. Siri is actually quite good at what it does, but what it does is very limited. It's mostly limiter to a robust set of voice activated commands than an actual assistant with natural language flexibility.

If nothing's available I figure I could use an Android device with a custom ROM and use one of the ones that aren't FOSS, and just keep that device free of any personal info.

Please advise, thanks.

Need to do a sustained connectivity test, need recommendation for simple procedure.

Hey all,

This is probably a very easy one for folks here. It’s been quite some time since I’ve done anything professionally but I was for a long time. Basically, for a while, my systems have experienced intermittent issue that for approximately 30 seconds, can’t get any WAN activity. I can still communicate with other systems within my network. - this is a home situation. The only thing that changed sort of around when this started was I configured my two access points as a mesh - pseudo, since they’re not actually mesh technically. Like, I just made same SSIDs, but different channels. This way I could get around and my devices would hop. And it’s worked nicely. Only issue has been occasionally a device tries to hang on desperately which I know is like the most common problem, but I am gonna play with signal strength if the APs support modifying that.

Anyway, I’m getting off topic. But yeah, that was the only thing that changed but I really think it’s just a coincidence. It’s definitely not the wifi itself because the problem occurred on a wired machine as well.

My setup is I have the cable device in bridge mode and I have a Sonicwall as my router. I also have a site-to-site VPN with another Sonicwall at a remote location for a variety of purposes. That setup has been on and stable for like 15 years almost, and it’s fine.

So, really my first idea is I want to run software that can continually test the connection for like 12 hours, and log when the connection goes down and for how long. Obviously I thought of just running a ping, but I wanted to know if there’s anything that will try varying destinations over time, and track the results so I can analyze for more than just how long and when. Also I don’t know if some servers might misconstrue a persistent ping for many hours as a possible DDoS bot and knock me off, so I figured varying the destination has the added benefit of making sure the test is as reliable as possible.

If I’m gonna figure out what’s wrong, and if it’s the cable device I want to be able to just tell level 2 support my results so they’ll just swap it out quickly.

Anyway, sorry for long post but I imagine they come much longer here sometimes. If anyone has ideas as far as having seen this kind of thing, and also if there’s any FOSS software I could run to test and analyze. I prefer something easy please :-). I’d like to run the tests on two systems concurrently to see how they compare. I’ve got a windows 7 machine and a Linux machine. The Linux is on WiFi and the Win is wired.

Also if this doesn’t belong here, I apologize; it looked kosher according to the sidebar.

Thanks folks.

P.S. oooh also, if there’s an app for Android that can join the test as well, I’d love that. I have piles of Android devices so I would like to see how they fair, as well.

How to undo recent upgrade

Hi all,

I have a Moto G Stylus 5G. I acquired it as part of a Lot. Since it's in great condition I decided to make use of it. One of the first things it did was upgrade from Android 13 to 14. Well, some of my essential apps can't run on 14 so how can I undo the upgrade? I just want to roll back to 13, or alternatively, install the stock 13 via recovery etc.

This would really be of immense use to me. Thanks.

What tablet would suit me best?

I have an A7 Lite and I’m just getting sick of the lag and sluggishness. I had done a lot of research prior to buying it, and was led to believe it could be optimized enough to run really nicely.

Well it turns out that any rare successful ROM replacement procedures are long gone with no live file links and not a single coherent procedure instruction. So despite it being theoretically doable, there isn’t a solid document with accompanying files available. I have spent many months looking for something that isn't obsolete, incomplete or missing accompanying files.

So… what I need is something around that size +/- a little. So like 8"-11" range. I want a long lasting battery and a decent enough CPU, RAM, GPU arrangement to handle most basic tasks such as videos, photoshop and the occasional game - without any stuttering or hanging due to latency.

Ideally, I’d really like to be able to do a custom ROM if I should so desire. This isn’t urgent but in my experience with a dozen different test cases, a slimmer ROM make a crazy improvement in performance (seriously, it's astonishing how much faster most devices perform with a slimmed ROM) . However, given I’d likely wind up going with a Samsung I’d want the S-Pen to work nicely. I really don’t like how bloated One-UI is, but it would seem I’d be stuck with it unless there are ROMs that integrate their S-Pen utilities. I actually quite like them.

So good performance but don’t need the best or even close to the best. Just not the bargain basement slug that is the Mediatek inside the A7 Lite. It’s honestly shameful.

Oh and just in case they’ve started to fuck around with this, I need a microSD slot.

Sorry for being so verbose but I wanted to be as clear about what I wanna avoid as what I am looking for.

Edit: some grammar and clarifications.

What Recovery/ROM options exist? I’ve done a lot of searching.

There are some builds here or there posted on XDA, but they all have dead links. I’m still looking around to see if the files can be found on any live hosts, but if anyone has the files to custom ROM any of these… they’re decent hardware and shouldn’t have to be tossed in the ground just because the manufacturers are too greedy to give new Android versions for them.

The D415 is already rooted; none of the others have had any mods done yet. I’m hoping to find potentially a decent build of maybe CyanogenMod, Lineage, Havoc, Pixel, or any of the other quality builds.

I already ran the Droid bootloader code check and Motorola’s site says this one is not eligible to be unlocked. Must have been the typical control-freak contract that Verizon usually does. I guess at that time they wanted to nickel and dime every bit they could with this model. Quite a few Verizon phones were able to be unlocked, though, so with that unit there still could be a possibility. I’m not expecting so, though.

Powdered drink mix without water? Assuming you drink a lot of water.

Hey all, Is it particularly unhealthy to snack on powdered drink mix? The kind that’s just garbage chemicals and artificial flavors. I drink TONS of water every day because I take a lot of medication so I have always drank a lot of water. I pee like 10x a day and it’s very clear so I know I’m getting plenty. That being divulged, we have this powdered drink mix and I like touching the pouch opening to my tongue and sucking on the powder a little bit at a time. It’s tasty and no calories to speak of. I know it’s junk but it keeps me from snacking on junk food. I just wonder if it’s particularly unhealthy to do.

Any currently available GSI or AOSP for Galaxy Tab A7 Lite?

The ones on XDA have dead links or have no workable instructions. Anyone have a complete repository with proper insructions? My T220 was very affordable but honestly, it's brutally slow. OneUI is too heavy for these resources. I don't want Lineage, since it does not allow moving apps to SD.

A solid generic Android with Root would be just ((((chef's kiss)))).

The device already has Developer options set to allow OEM unlocking and I have adb etc. on PC.

I hope someone has something good for me. Thanks.

Maybe someone can help with Lineage and rooting

Hey all, I have been trying to revitalize a Galaxy S5. I installed Lineage 17 and while the performance is AMAZING and I mean that seriously, I can't figure out how to root. I got Magisk, but it's asking me to patch a file. I don't know what now. Prior to Lineage, I rooted the stock android with a rooting tool that was extremely quick and easy. Just sent a file in Odin while in download mode and it did the rest. But I'm fairly sure that same utility can't be used on Lineage as it's a whole new system.

What I would like is either help doing this, or if anyone knows a better rom to use that comes with root ability - and also the ability to move apps to the SD. For some reason, Lineage won't do this adequately, and stock android has no problem with it whatsoever. That's a step down in my opinion just because of dev's personal philosophy but whatever.

Anyway. Thanks if anyone can help.
