When he stops deadnaming his daughter, maybe I'll start to care about his attempted rebrand of Twitter

I still call Meta Facebook and alphabet Google... No one is confused, it's only ambiguous if you start getting into logistics about business units

Twitter didn't even reorganize, they just changed their name to something it feels dumb to say. It's actually less ambiguous to call it Twitter, because X is a confusing trademark

6

Facebook is still Facebook and Google is still Google, though.

Musk didn’t create a parent company called X to manage the Twitter platform, he renamed the entire platform.

2

Calling it deadnaming implies Twitter chose the name X. Twitter did not make that decision, thus calling Twitter Twitter is in no danger of offending Twitter.

55

Ooh. Excellent point. I will be disrespectfully deadnaming Twitter from now on.

As a cisgender person I'm so sorry for the shit other cisgender write on Twitter

The fuck? You don’t have to be sorry for what other people do. That’s other people.

What’s with all this carrying blame for shit other people have done just because you share an uncontrollable trait with them?

1

I understand your point but I'm not carrying blame. I see what people write and I'm so sorry it happens

Your virtue signal is a little bright. You should adjust the wattage.

Only if you think corporate branding is equal to personal identification.

I always call it FaceBook Inc. It's absurd that that shit has always gone right past everyones observation. Prolly still clicking because upon seeing it you're ass will do the denial your damn self instead of reading it upside down: zero responsibility for maintenance of spying products handle when a corporation is doing the gig and not the gorramn government.

But Facebook hasn't renamed. It's still Facebook, but under company called Meta.

2

I never liked Twitter that much to begin with, but it’s definitely not the same thing as it used to be. I’m fine with calling it X instead of Twitter because of that. X is a stupid name for a stupid social media platform. It’s fitting. It’s definitely not Twitter anymore, which ever way you want to look at it.

Just do what The Register does

Twitter, the social media service now calling itself X,

This has been the most common name used for months now.

Or you could call it what Linus on Wan show by Linus Tech Tips YT channel made up: ex-Twitter You essentially say both of the names and the fact that Twitter is the "old name". But as a F-u to Musk, we should just call it Twitter.

Is my brain meant to pronounce this as Shitter?

Whatever floats your boat! There are multiple ways of calling it and I've just pointed out the one I find the funniest. What we can all agree on is that renaming Twitter was a bad idea. (and everything else he did also)

1

I've also seen Twixer, which I quite like.

I still just call it Twitter though. Maybe when Musk gets bored someone will buy it and change it back.

I still use the old names; Facebook, Twitter
I don't care if they change their names. Less brain power used to stick to an old name most (still) know.

9

Facebook is still called that. The social media platform, that is; the company that runs it is now called Meta, and it makes sense to distinguish those.

9

Its literally twitter.com and I despise musk so its called twitter for all of time.

7

Whenever it occurs in spoken conversation, I call it X to highlight the absurdity of the rebranding. The other person either needs an explanation or a few seconds to figure out what I mean.

5

When you see the sewage that's being spewed there it's as good as any other name.

2

I listen to NPR regularly and their people seem to like saying "Twitter, which is now known as X." I dunno why though. I guess if someone doesn't know?

2
lemmy.world

I cal it "The thing formerly known as Twitter.", because it's short and to the point.
Just like when Musk tries to explain one of his many lies, like why the self driving cars he promised would be ready in 2017 haven't arrived yet.
Also it doesn't really matter if we call it a failed banking app, or a failed video app, or a failed message app. All of those are true. But it's shorter and easier to just call it "The thing formerly known as Twitter". Then everybody knows what you are talking about.

1

But what platform is it really? Video? Banking? Or what Twitter used to be? IMO it's no longer a well defined platform as much as it's just a "thing" that is whatever Musk dreamt up last. It used to be Twitter, but it isn't even that anymore.

1

Is it still a platform tho? It sure looks more like a cliff to me nowadays.

it’s short and to the point

it's not though is it? just continue to say twitter, everyone will know what you mean

2

No it's not, it was a joke on using a stupid name, like when Musk changed it.

1

Twitter belonged to the people using it. It is appropriate to call it X for cancelled now.

Though similar to you, I always call it Twitter/X, in honor of what it used to be.
