I think we might be in a better place if we didn't stigmatize people for just being content instead of endlessly ambitious

I think this is an important part of protesting that goes overlooked by the "protests don't immediately solve the problem" people. I'm in a very conservative area as well but when I protest I get more support than opposition. It helps other people realize that hey, maybe I'm not actually surrounded by people who are okay with this. Maybe there are actually a lot more of my neighbors who aren't okay with things, and there's actually hope that if I start acting up more, I'll have support. Hope and morale are pretty important for resistance movements.

Billionaires are the worst in so many ways

• Stop removing the underline styling for links. It's not cool or sleek that you made things unintuitive to navigate by having the only indication be a slightly different text color, or a hover effect.
• I don't like emoji in text interface output. I don't need cute little sparkle graphics and yellow smiley faces and lightning bolts and rocket ships to tell me the operation was successful, to say nothing of environments where emoji aren't supported and it's just broken.
• Please stop trying to be cute or hip with your basic interface messaging. "We got you, we'll find those results you need. Just hang tight, OK?" "Oops, our bad, there was a little hiccup in the process..." It's unnecessary padding just like all the rounded corners everywhere. Exception if the entire app/site/whatever is specifically designed around being cute and friendly, but I see this all the time where it just feels out of place, disingenuous, and obnoxious.
• Custom fonts and nonstandard characters in usernames are an abomination. Show your personality and creativity in your graphical avatar and your profile, I'm happy to see it there!

Set up your own website if you haven't already, the indie web/smallnet/etc movement lately has been really cool to see and has made the internet fun again for me. Neocities is a great place to start if you need simple hosting, completely free and without ads

People whenever something like this (particularly protests that aren't violent uprisings) happens: "It's not a sole and immediate solution, so it's pointless. Also I'm not going to provide a realistic sole and immediate solution that I'm personally willing to act on or lead. Might as well shut up and go quietly."

I get that it's frustrating, but stop trying to slam the door on people trying to build up an environment of resistance, solidarity, and hope. If you can encourage that energy into a more effective direction, then by all means: lead the way. Trying to appear like some savvy intellectual superior and just telling people they're wasting their time isn't the way to do that.

This is the first time I've cared about the whole systemd debate, so that's something I guess. Not interested in anything that kowtows to this age verification nonsense

• People every time a post about protests is made: "This will accomplish nothing."
• Those same people when asked what they're personally doing since they talk like they know what will and won't work: "Also nothing."
• (Bonus points for the ones who say violent uprisings are needed, but are not violently rising up themselves. Double bonus for "well I don't live in the US.")

Protests aren't the solution on their own, they're a step in the process of people getting to the point of doing something about the situation they've found themselves in. You can't fix a problem if you don't first acknowledge and accept that it's a problem. Stop crapping on people for protesting. Instead, encourage them to use that energy to take things further. And if you know so much about what will actually work and are going out of your way to tell people what they're doing isn't going to work, maybe you should be doing the thing you claim will work so you can lead by example instead of armchair directing.

I love this effect, it makes me feel like a time traveler

Lemm.ee made me feel welcome and cozy in this new experience that was Lemmy. Admins and users I frequently noticed were chill and seemed to be overall decent folk. Appreciate everyone that made that instance what it was, thank you all and see you around on/from other instances.

I really struggle with work that doesn't feel meaningful. It'd be nice to feel like I was contributing something meaningful to my community. My favorite jobs were working for school districts. Not teaching, but just being a part of that overall system felt so satisfying.

The worst is when you see a low sub count channel owner respond with the sincerest gratitude, like it really made their day to get such a supportive comment. I never have the heart to tell them, but I do try to leave an actual supportive comment of my own to sort of balance it out
