It's because the few more dollars per day empowers people not to have to deal with exploitative practices, to be able to save an emergency fund, to be able to look elsewhere for opportunities.

They had literal segments on Fox where they were complaining that companies couldn't strong arm people anymore because COVID turned the balance in labor value. Uber is known to give desperation compensation much lower then drivers who are more selective. Data is used to min-max labor exploitation.

Linus does not fuck around

Ugh, having been on the receiving end, this type of belittlement is the worst, and breeds resentment, factionalism, and a host of other toxic elements in the workplace.

Irrespective of the validity of his critique, prima donna developers are the worst and I would start looking for jobs elsewhere because programming is already stressful enough, don't want to start worrying about the people.

A heat dome will send temperatures into the triple-digits across the West as fires burn

Climate change effects are compounding, as polar caps melt they release trapped methane which is more effective greenhouse gas than CO2.

As temperatures heat up, people just gonna turn up HVAC more, more energy usage, which means we either get green real quick, or this feedback loop will continue until we break.

But all this is known. We're all gonna be scrambling when we reach that point, spouting "We didn't listen" like that episode of South Park about this very issue.

Meh, im sure the rich fucks have contingencies for themselves, so it's all good.

Yup, unfortunately people don't understand that policies only change the equilibrium, but sometimes take longer than electoral cycles to see effect.

That's why no party really gives a shit about bringing down the national debt, because twofold:

  • people hate you in your term because that's less money being spent for their benefit now
  • the opposition can have more spending room to provide more benefits in their term, making them more popular.
