Sometimes I hear the people next door... and then I'm like *oh shit, have they been hearing all the yelling in our house this whole time?*

We can hear our neighbours fuck, they can hear us fuck. I used to hear the TV from the neighbour on the other side, until his mother died, now it's really quiet from there. Kinda sad actually. I can also sometimes hear the kids from below us. I really don't mind those human noises. It's just part of living surrounded by other people.

Unless you're my friend, whose neighbours are regularly loudly fighting at times of day where other people are trying to sleep. I've suggested slipping ads for therapy under their door.

How much do you care about music?

There is a popular question "If you were to lose either sight or hearing, which one would you chose?" and my answer is always: i could live with never reading with my eyes again, i couldn't live with never hearing music again.

So yes, music is a big part of my life.

I use it as a tool, to support a specific mood or situation. For example I have a few playlists that help me get into a flow state for work (the Brotato OST is great for this, also my anime playlist). I use a specific album to help me calm down when I'm having a bad headache. I listen to epic music while cooking or doing housework (recently: Two Steps From Hell).

But I also listen with intent, especially for my favourite artists, or artists I just recently discovered, or albums I just recently bought. I like to find my favourite song in each album, so I want to listen closely, and sometimes write down my thoughts about a song, or quotes from the lyrics.

And I also make music myself: I am a member of a local women's vocal group/choir. The genres of music we're singing isn't really something I would listen to at home (metal doesn't really lend itself to be sung by 40 women with a median age of 50+ unfortunately) but I'm not necessarily doing it for the songs themselves: it is just so much fun to sing together! I love hearing our voices come together, I find immense joy in joining my voice with others.

So, yes: music to me is art, and content, and community.

I love music.

What folders do you make in addition to the default ones ?

~/diy for my collection of knitting, crochet and sewing patterns and other assorted diy stuff

~/work duh.

~/tools for my collection of more or less useful small scripts

~/sync for my syncthing folders

~/data symlink to my data partition (most of the others are also symlinks to their location on data)

I don't really have a convention for programming projects yet. They used to land inside of ~/diy or in ~/tools or just random folders on data. I've got a ~/code folder now, but its contents are a mess.

What's your uptime?

Oh thank dog, it took way too much scrolling to find someone here that shuts down their workstation overnight. Unless I actually have something long-running that I want to come back to in the morning (which is rare) it just makes no sense to me to leave it on while I'm asleep.

Is the steam client absolutely messed up for anyone else?

One thing I have with controllers is, that when I do the old -Syu and there are OS level packages in there, steam won't detect any controller until I do a reboot, even if the OS itself detects it.

Other than that there are some games that have full controller support but still only work with steam input. It's trial and error with every game.

Also in i3 steam doesn't like being tiled and wants to be floated (does not react to mouse inputs otherwise), but in hyprland it doesn't care either way. If you're using i3 or something similar, maybe this is related?

What are some good games to play while sick?

The last time I got really fucking sick and had to stay off work for two weeks I played a lot of "Sticky Business".

You design and sell stickers. Its cute, chill, wholesome, scratches my creative itch, and is just distracting enough for all the being-sick stuff going on, but not so complicated as to trigger a headache.

Should I delete my existing bad social medias accounts or just let them die by stagnation?

I have an old Facebook account that I've lost the password to. I still have access to the email it's associated with, but to reset the password (and subsequently delete the account) I'd have to prove my identity to Facebook. Which I can't because I didn't use my real name.

Now the account is oxidizing on Facebooks servers; I sometimes get "someone tried to log in to your account" emails and I'm like "go, take it, have fun!".

Basically, if I can I delete old accounts, if I can't... Well its not my servers that get cluttered with old shit.

Where are you supposed to put your eyes when you're not using them?

My parents always did the "what are you thinking about?" when I was spaced out in my nothing box, and to this day do not understand why this made me angry. a) if I wanted to share my thoughts, I would have done so, if I'm not sharing it's none of your business! and b) you destroyed my sweet nothing moment! That short respite from my always-on brain, lost because you're nosy!

Makes me mad just thinking about. Glad my love doesn't do this (he wouldn't be my love otherwise, I guess).

stoffe.de steht seinen Betrieb zum 31.1.26 ein. Sichert eure Schnittmuster.
