After a handcuffed ride in the back of a police van, a man was left paralyzed and needed his legs amputated, lawsuit alleges
Reply in thread
What's crazy is it would likely cost less in taxes to do!

Tacoma becomes first WA city to ban non-therapeutic cat declawing
Thank god this has fallen out of vogue. I remember when most cats I met as a child seemed to be declawed.

American dream of owning a home is dead, majority of renters say
Reply in thread
For working class people home ownership was really the primary way to stabilize and build wealth. Which is important since we don't have a social safety net, most of our retirement has been privatized, healthcare and education are dramatically more expensive etc. etc. and since working class folk can't build up generational wealth we are moving into technosurfdom. I don't know if it's unique but it sure do suck over here for a lot of people.
I'm relatively lucky but shit be hard here.

Americans, what are your plans if Trump wins in 2024?
continue being annoyed by the level of corruption and incompetence of the US ruling class while existing in a visibly collapsing empire.

Passenger sees Boeing 757-200 “wing coming apart” mid-air — United flight from San Francisco to Boston makes emergency landing in Denver
Reply in thread
A believe there have been quite a few articles published with interviews from former Boeing execs with who were around when the company went from engineer ran to finance ran. One of them I remember the former executive said part of why they will continue to not trust Boeing is they are only grounding planes to solve one problem at a time after it's caused massive failure and not trying to engineer and solve all the problems they can so these failures stop happening mid flight.

Wells Fargo District Manager arrested for Target shoplifting spree across at least three cities

i feel like you just told us the inverse. Shoplift from target, just figure out what a felony in your area is and take less than that first though.

Carlin got better as he got older. His shtick was always tight fast well rehearsed dense sets but he went from mostly irreverent to actually saying something. And he was still able to be so funny while clearly getting so angry.

She was fired after not endorsing Splenda-filled salads to people with diabetes
I'm on keto so I use the occasional stevia or monk-fruit sweetener when I'm craving something sweet, and the fact that she was fired for not approving those recipes make the sweeteners feel much more suss. And they were already kind of suss to begin with, so like... what are they not telling us ?

YouTube's plan backfires, people are installing better ad blockers
Reply in thread
Adblock plus was the standard for so long until maybe 5 or so years ago when they were bought out or something and they were hinting at letting some ads in. I think only the very online people switched to uBlock Origin before Adblock Plus tanked itself. That is all from hazy memory but it wouldn't surprise me that normies got recommended Adblock Plus and used it until it didn't work right only to seek out better options now that youtube is serving them so many ads.

For real. Like obviously the movie isn't high art but it hits all it's emotional and comedic beats perfectly. Pretty much every major character has some sort of arc and it understands and lovingly and expertly pokes fun at so many aspects of campy scifi and scifi fandom.
Like a ridiculously well executed movie on every level.
