My vote remains to defederate. Their administration are among the worst of the bad actors; to me, that is the primary issue as the admins will determine the shape of the instance. I have already pretty much abandoned this instance though, so take of that what you will. There is, in my opinion, an excessive amount of hand wringing and foot dragging over what should be a pretty easy question. As a consequence we've been flooded with very obvious apologist accounts and their bad faith arguments to protect their friends. I'd like to keep this account active but I'm deeply unimpressed with how this has all been handled and I no longer have much faith that sh.itjust.works is able to prevent itself from becoming a nazi bar.

We are way past the point where democrats could have done anything, and we arrived here because all through my almost fifty year lifetime and before, people on the left have been warning them about the US's decline towards fascism, the takeover of their media and the dominance of voter suppression, and they've chosen to never take any action to stop it. The best way to write a good story, for me, is to write a story I want to read. That seems obvious but bear with me. If I plan out all the details, it's like someone spoiled the book for me, I just can't get into it. I have to create characters I'm interested, plunk them in a situation, and just start seeing what happens. I dont fret the little details unless they start getting me into a place I'm not enjoying. Later on I go back to the early parts and tie them together with whatever happened. Done this way, writing a story feels like reading a story, one that is specifically tailored to your own interests (and that none of your friends have read, so they can't talk to you about it)

They were voted in by Americans, and nobody has made any significant moves to impede them. It is not a small group, it is the USA in any sense we normally mean the term when referring to the actions of its government.
