GameStop CEO Cohen spurns $35 billion pay plan to focus on plan to buy eBay

Reply in thread

GameStop could actually help solve some problems eBay has. GameStop has stores everywhere that can serve as pickup locations to avoid theft problems. GameStop has humans that can help with scam offerings where fake items were sent, or verify an item is intact before returning so a seller can't lie about it being broken. eBay can become a supply source for collectables or whatever products GameStop wants to focus on in stores. They could sell a membership that lets you have items shipped to your store for inspection before purchasing or something like that.

It's going to depend on how much matcha you get. It probably needs more sweetness either way. It definitely wouldn't be for everyone, but it's possible the grassy elements of rum, mezcal and matcha could work okay.

If WW2 is equated with Hitler, then what was going on in Japan? Was it a different war completely or was it one that just falls under the big umbrella of WW2 name?

It's eurocentrism that basically ignores the Pacific theater. It was also mostly a 1v1 between the US and Japan as far as major powers, the Soviets had some minor skirmishes. Another reason it might be talked about less is there were less survivors, the fighting was brutal on islands and the Japanese used a lot of suicide tactics, there weren't many people that actually experienced the whole war in the Pacific.

Why is leadership valued so much over expertise?

It comes down to jealousy. A manager can't possibly make less than their direct reports is a common thought process, especially when both positions are salaried. Some companies are willing to buck the trend and pay at least first or maybe second level managers less than some of their reports at times.

It's actually somewhat common for roles with commission or tips to make more than management. This also happens with roles that get paid overtime.

Amazon thought it could compete with Steam because it was so much larger than Valve, but Prime Gaming's former VP admits that 'gamers already had the solution to their problems'

Steam is a platform that happens to also have a storefront. Other companies are building storefronts and hoping that's enough.

If you can't provide fast downloads, cloud saves synced across devices, achievements, mod support, friends lists, and multiplayer support, it's not a real option. Being cheaper or having some exclusives aren't attractive. Gog already has the drm free angle to be a legitimate competitor.

Do Huawei phones have a secret backdoor that the Chinese government can access?

It wouldn't be very secret if it was published on the internet. It's definitely a credible concern given the level of control China demands of companies operating in the country. The US also essentially has backdoors into most communication, and possibly phones as well, so it's not that crazy for China to also have them.

China is also very aggressive in hacking into companies. Even if they didn't have a custom backdoor, them finding a way in and essentially banning Huawei from fixing it, is another option.
