Profit over people is a failed system

Tropical smoothie is a perfect example here.

They use less fruit, don’t freeze the fruit. It’s mostly ice. Then they add sugar.

It’s wayyyy cheaper, but it’s just blended sugar ice with some fruit, not a real smoothie.

But then places that make real smoothies can’t make them as cheap Because they have to deal with frozen fruit Logistics and need more fruit

It’s way better, but they can’t compete with tropical smoothie

NASA fired up a prototype of its electromagnetic thruster inside a vacuum chamber, reaching power levels of up to 120 kilowatts—the highest achieved in U.S. tests of an electric propulsion system

Some ion trajectories involve constant low acceleration. It really adds up time. You accelerate halfway there, then decelerate the rest of the way.

The dawn spacecraft mission to ceres has 48,000+ hours of gentle acceleration under ion propulsion. That’s 5.5 years of firing. But it gets over 38,620 km/h of delta-v (acceleration).

JUST IN: House Democrats File Bill to Form 25th Amendment Commission to Assess Trump’s Mental Fitness

Reply in thread

Learn how the government works if you’re gonna prescribe how it should act. The Democrats have no power to 25th him- only his hand picked cabinet can do that.

Now they DO need to be filing impeachment every time he does something wrong and just add it to the growing list and make them have to go through all of it every time. That’s all they can really do.

Lasers, or, The effects of overhyped technology

Reply in thread

That misses the point of the post. They have actual uses; just not what they are hyped for.

I, for example, have a mixed receptive-expressive language disorder.

LLMs have been life changing for me. I can write out rambling scrambled attempts at saying things, and ask it to reword and make it concise and clear. Or I can ask it to analyze something I wrote.

But I always write it first, then have the LLM do a pass, then I come behind and study/correct the output.

So not every use is dumb, just like lasers are useful in science.

It's Saturday 04/11/2026. Hey, What's Going On!

Today is Autism zoo day, Which is a good networking opportunity for other people in the community. Good Social practice. Good people.

But I’m going to be late because there’s a public mountain bike ride and I’ve always wanted to do a mountain bike group ride. I usually have to go by myself because I don’t have a group. I have a lot of difficulty with language, and it makes it hard to find people. My dyspraxia/apraxia makes it hard to keep up with “serious” riders, but I’m too intense for most beginners to keep up with me. Today, I’m going to try to go with the advanced group and see how they do it.

An old SMBC skit where a couple reluctantly hires a given plumber...who works as though he's starring in a porno, and demands the occupants watch. They can't really turn him down, since he's the cheapest and most qualified in the area.
