87 year old runs over 4 pedestrians and kills one after running red light.

American infrastructure makes it so one has to depend on the car for everything. Doctors appointment, out of milk, want to take your dog the dog park? Get in the car.

Community it also dead, so others aren't going to step in and help out, probably not even his family.

I'm not implying that justifies anything, but incidents like this are be expected in the USA - ride or die (why not both?!)

Buffy who passed away a couple months ago from a snake bite :( c post of her climbing olive trees 7 months ago

Good tree, better cat.

If you get another cat, would you keep them inside? Our two fellas are strictly indoor cats, and I feel a little bad... but then read horrible things like this and it's nice to know the biggest threat they face is being stepped on because they're being dickheads.
The birds and bugs are grateful too. Unless they find their way into to "the killing zone" ie inside.

That's more like it.

What about the local government who allows all this to happen? Maybe if put under pressure, or even voted out, locals could see some real change.

But it's easier to graffiti their own walls, and squirt tourists with water than to organize.

You're right. It's a known issue. It's predominantly white people going out and enjoying nature, for multiple reasons.

Public forests offer a variety of outdoor recreation activities that enhance participants’ well-being, yet participation remains low among ethnic minorities in the United States. These groups face multiple barriers, including limited information, transportation and financial constraints, safety concerns, fear of discrimination, and wildlife-related anxieties, which are often shaped by broader structural and cultural contexts.

Why don't people wear underwear under bike shorts?

Reply in thread

No, some people use them as intended.

Go look at the shorts. Why is the manufacturer spending the time and money to put a nice, soft piece of fabric where your taint is touching? If the intent was you just wear your regular underwear they wouldn't bother with that nice bit of fabric. But your bare skin is meant to be in contact with it, hence the nice soft material to limit chaffing and absorb sweat.
