Why can’t America agree on what time it is?
Some systems out there (typically antiquated by modern standards, but still exist and work just fine) aren't connected to the internet, believe it or not. Such systems have preprogrammed rules dictating when to switch between daylight savings time and standard time.
Some antiquated devices like alarm clocks are also preprogrammed to automatically do this. So if they change the time rules, welp you might as well throw away your Sony alarm clock, cuz they ain't exactly gonna push out a firmware update for a ~20 year old alarm clock.
Source: Me, that backports time zone rules from Windows 10 to Windows XP.
