The country town description is quite apt!
Must admit I've been more of a lurker on the other DT (mainly cos I haven't that much to say haha), but being a new forum / country town I'm trying to comment more (and you all seem so lovely)

I am beyond words
I don't really have anything to suggest (I'm in Australia), but I wanted to say I'm so sorry that happened to you! What an awful experience. You deserve to be treated with care and compassion (as does everyone), especially in a medical setting where we are often scared and vulnerable. I hope you are able to find another gyno (or you have a good doctor/ gp who can refer you) who treats you with respect and understanding.

Planing soft toy for a baby, I'd appreciate some feedback
That looks like it'll be really cute!! You're very creative! The only thing I would say is that if it's for a baby, maybe don't use wool or yarn for the 'hair'... It might be better to make it 'solid' out of satin like the fins? (Does that make sense? Like something in one mass rather than stringy...)?

The worst part about losing hair in the shower
It's so strange, I don't necessarily notice shedding more hair than usual when I'm washing it, as it's just always been part of having long thick hair .... Except now my hair seems to be somehow less thick and I don't even know when this happened ... 🤷♀️

[help] Foot pedal for this Brother machine?
Reply in thread
I think the machine you have is a Brother Super Flairmatic 190B sewing machine. (I used Google lens on the picture you posted). If you search this on Google, you'll find quite a bit of information, and there's even a YouTube video!!! You might even be able to find a manual this way. Good luck!!!

Coquelicot Skirt
Reply in thread
It looks great as it is!
Personally, I would try to find the same fabric for another tier.... Or if not, perhaps a patterned fabric that has that same colour in the pattern (if that makes sense... ) 🤔 Not sure about white ... A plain white tier might be too much of a contrast? (But that could also just be my aesthetic preference haha 🤷♀️, because the skirt looks really good with the top you're wearing )

I signed up through Lemmy world and there's been lots of issues with some of the apps...(I also signed up through Aussie zone too cos I was confused, but have mainly used the Lemmy world one to comment). I think you're right and it probs has alot to do with the large influx of users... (& I also have 'pending subscriptions...)

What is your most recent success?
I'm a newbie sewist, and this week I finally sewed with jersey fabric!!! It was just a simple dolman sleeve top, but I feel I've overcome a mental hurdle because it turned out fine!! Now at some stage I have a jumpsuit to attempt in the same fabric.....

what are your favourite books set in Melbourne?
Definitely second the Corinne Chapman series by Kerry Greenwood, so good!!! Also, if you like mysteries with some humour, 'Brunswuck Street Blues' by Sally Bothroyd was really enjoyable. Highly recommend

Bus bursts into flames on Melbourne's West Gate Bridge
A person who was actually on that bus posted on Reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/melbourne/comments/14vqcgo/the_232_bus_i_was_on_earlier_blew_up_on_the/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=1 Sounds like it was very lucky that there weren't many people on the bus... Terrifying!!

How are you accessing lemmy, or reddit? (mobile apps, desktop?)
I'm using the jerboa app on my (android) phone. I've used the website a couple of times (installed as an an app) but have found the app easier.... I've always used the official Reddit app (really only been on Reddit for just over a year and a half) and only using it to check out the sewing subs cos they don't seem to have moved over ... yet....
But agree that Reddit is very quickly losing its appeal, and I definitely prefer it here on Lemmy...

[help] Foot pedal for this Brother machine?
I'm only a beginner, and I don't really know, but I wonder whether it's worth contacting a sewing machine servicer / repair person to take a look at it (do you know whether the electrics are good and working?). The other thing is a sewing machine repair person may have spare parts for vintage machines? Do you have the sewing machine manual?
