I wanted so much to be a part of the gang when I started out, to walk away feels a little like losing some mates. But I don’t know how to stay when I’ve lost respect for the platform, the mods and tbh some of the community members.
Sigh. I actually completely missed whatever went on the past few days. Was on a cat sub from a Google search at 6pm last night and then saw the melb sub was open again.
Part of me really doesn't want to know which regs did what the days prior.... part of me really needs a break from social media altogether. I kind of just vaguely hoped the sub would reopen and things would go back to what they were slowly, but from your comment and seeing some posts here today it seems like there's been an irreparable rift beyond just what the admins and mods are doing.

Happy thursday. Got up and am just finished chairing my first online AA meeting. Service and volunteering are in my blood. Service is the last step and I have a lot of work to go to get to that bit, but I've been doing volunuteer work since I could. I started in cubs all those years ago. Another place where all the boys called me a girl and I didn't mind at all.
Have the transgender victoria job fair today so I have to try and get some normal looking outfit together. Being female makes this a lot easier than wearing a fucking suit and tie and having that corporate rope around my neck.
Then I have my usual volunteer work to do on a thursday, counselling and another aa meeting specifically for trans people and allies, then probably more aa with my normal 24/7 group.
I'm over what happened yesterday, but everyone be aware that trolls impersonating our old friends from the reddit DT are here spreading their vitriol so if something seems a bit off from a familiar face, message the og so you can confirm who it is I guess,

I started a new job 3 weeks ago and discovered there’s a mothers club in the office. They all come in on the same day and started chatting loudly as soon as they walk in the door. Then non stop talking all day about their kids and anything else related to their kids 🙄🙄
I think there are some compromises most people in an office will make to keep things moving along smoothly and help to build camaraderie and cohesiveness. I’m sure if you can compromise yourself to think of this person trying to keep things positive, others will compromise for you too.

Like what the fuck was that? Everyone (myself included) hit the roof and there were sub despicable comments about the mods and a handful of others, and what was it even for? The subs just gone back in time 2 weeks, all the hatred, negativity and pessimism was all for nothing. I was all for protesting, and as I said, I don't necessarily think things should've continued as they did, but it doesn't seem like there was any way to win
All the recent goings on combined with the usual mid week blues and wintertime SADs has led to a whole lot of mindfuck for me

I was an occasional fanatical Redditor but mostly lurker these days, but am a very active Fedi user, and have watched the #Rexxit with interest.
What was it even for? Hopefully to wake some people up: this is just going to keep happening in any online space that is owned by a company expecting to make a profit from the free labour of its users. It feels really shitty to watch people retreat and succumb, go back to the familiar, to those places and people you know. The powerful people pulling the strings are actually betting on that being the majority.
It's been handled more obviously or more stealthily in different spaces, but it is inevitable, and while the Fediverse is clunky and doesn't have the same resources as profit driven entities, it grows in spurts and won't suffer the same fate, even with the arrival of bigger entities, once it is clear enough people have woken up and won't give their social graph and intellectual and emotional labour to them for free anymore).
Email, while "captured" in many ways early on by Hotmail, then later Gmail, continues to function and new players continue to arrive (eg ProtonMail) because the protocols remain open to all.
Leaving walled gardens like Reddit and Twitter and returning to the open, interconnected Internet is the only sustainable path in the long term.

I'm a fairly heavy gym-goer and feel pretty good with my deadlifting as of late, but I still have issues with my mobility when squatting. I keep listing to one side which is preventing me from progressing. My PT has been recommending mobility warm ups/exercises to do before my set...but I'm also just sooo lazy when it comes to doing them so I just...never do them. I should try and fit them in before I go to the gym so I don't have to worry about them once I get there.

I’ve woken up to a sore & kinda blocked inner ear that is relieved when I blow my nose. Hoping to just drink a lot of water & nasal rinse later on will deal with it cos another GP appointment is too expensive right now. Home remedies welcome!
Bowl of very hot steaming water, float a drop of eucalyptus or teatree oil on the top. Drape a towel over your head to enclose the bowl as well and breathe in the steam. Your nose will run like Cathy Freeman and relieve the pressure a bit. Massage the joint at the top of your jawbone gently with fingertips on both sides to release ear/sinus pressure too. Repeat every couple of hours.
Antihistamines to help dry things up can help, too. I’ve got something similar atm and finally went to the dr, who said fluid on the inner ear, take telfast daily for a bit.
If it does get really painful do get it checked, though. You don’t want a burst eardrum from infection

Since it's a book of excerpts I've already read half of Treasures of Time in the original texts ,I might finish that one then. It's a lovely book too, nice embossed gilding and it has maps photos and illustrations. :)
I had salmon (lemon pepper marinaded) and stir-fried bok choy for dinner. The bok choy in the garden has been so successfull I will need a lot more bok choy recipes to use it up. A very good return on my discounted $1 punnet of seedlings.

I'm going to be making a German meatloaf called hackbraten. Pretty straightforward until you get to the part about the GHERKIN. The idea about squishing meat inbetween my fingers does not appeal but eating meatloaf does. Ah the things we do for love.
If it's a German dish, perhaps try to source gherkins made in Germany or Poland. They're quite different to other counterparts. Oh and don't fall for the 'Polish style' or 'German style' ones made in India or Turkey. They're good. Just not as good as the original versions.

Fingers are the best tool for the job imo. Just follow the 2 Fat Ladies' advice and make sure said fingers are scrupulously clean (and remove rings). I also like their idea of making a union jack with bacon strips in the pan, and then folding each strip over the loaf to keep it moist inside and crispy outside. No need to baste then, and this bacon wrapping is in your recipie too.

I'm a feeling a bit upset around how things have been going recently. I'm not necessarily disappointed about the sub returning to how it was, but it just all feels so pointless. Like what the fuck was that? Everyone (myself included) hit the roof and there were sub despicable comments about the mods and a handful of others, and what was it even for? The subs just gone back in time 2 weeks, all the hatred, negativity and pessimism was all for nothing. I was all for protesting, and as I said, I don't necessarily think things should've continued as they did, but it doesn't seem like there was any way to win
All the recent goings on combined with the usual mid week blues and wintertime SADs has led to a whole lot of mindfuck for me

I was an occasional fanatical Redditor but mostly lurker these days, but am a very active Fedi user, and have watched the #Rexxit with interest.
What was it even for? Hopefully to wake some people up: this is just going to keep happening in any online space that is owned by a company expecting to make a profit from the free labour of its users. It feels really shitty to watch people retreat and succumb, go back to the familiar, to those places and people you know. The powerful people pulling the strings are actually betting on that being the majority.
It's been handled more obviously or more stealthily in different spaces, but it is inevitable, and while the Fediverse is clunky and doesn't have the same resources as profit driven entities, it grows in spurts and won't suffer the same fate, even with the arrival of bigger entities, once it is clear enough people have woken up and won't give their social graph and intellectual and emotional labour to them for free anymore).
Email, while "captured" in many ways early on by Hotmail, then later Gmail, continues to function and new players continue to arrive (eg ProtonMail) because the protocols remain open to all.
Leaving walled gardens like Reddit and Twitter and returning to the open, interconnected Internet is the only sustainable path in the long term.

Tinyest is so funny. I was trying to unzip his stupid jammed Wondersuit the other day, my hand slipped off the zip and I (very lightly) bonked him on the nose. He stared at me for 2 seconds before slowly screwing up his face and screaming “bahhhhhhhhhhhh” at me. Mrs b just dropped a toy near him and he did the same thing cause he was scared. I swooped in to calm him till she started laughing at how funny it all was which set him off again cause I think he felt mocked. Poor little fella, but it is hilarious! I'm a fairly heavy gym-goer and feel pretty good with my deadlifting as of late, but I still have issues with my mobility when squatting. I keep listing to one side which is preventing me from progressing. My PT has been recommending mobility warm ups/exercises to do before my set...but I'm also just sooo lazy when it comes to doing them so I just...never do them. I should try and fit them in before I go to the gym so I don't have to worry about them once I get there.

Bowl of very hot steaming water, float a drop of eucalyptus or teatree oil on the top. Drape a towel over your head to enclose the bowl as well and breathe in the steam. Your nose will run like Cathy Freeman and relieve the pressure a bit. Massage the joint at the top of your jawbone gently with fingertips on both sides to release ear/sinus pressure too. Repeat every couple of hours.

Since it's a book of excerpts I've already read half of Treasures of Time in the original texts ,I might finish that one then. It's a lovely book too, nice embossed gilding and it has maps photos and illustrations. :)

If it's a German dish, perhaps try to source gherkins made in Germany or Poland. They're quite different to other counterparts. Oh and don't fall for the 'Polish style' or 'German style' ones made in India or Turkey. They're good. Just not as good as the original versions.

Fingers are the best tool for the job imo. Just follow the 2 Fat Ladies' advice and make sure said fingers are scrupulously clean (and remove rings). I also like their idea of making a union jack with bacon strips in the pan, and then folding each strip over the loaf to keep it moist inside and crispy outside. No need to baste then, and this bacon wrapping is in your recipie too.
