i thought i loved watching internet drama unfold but turns out not so much when it impacts the communities i frequent.
While I did say earlier it was good to see the DT once again on r/melbourne, I figured it might be best to make an account here on the Aussie Zone so I can read up on happenings over here as well. Hello, once again, !melbourne.
I'm not sure why anyone would want to use the Reddit DT after seeing the content from who is left over there vs here. I kinda don't want most of them to come over, the vibe here is too good lol

Unpopular opinion, but it seems like the mods little protest is working. Most members are pissed about all the Florida posts, 90% of the DT is people whinging about it. I don't imagine anyone who stumbles across the sub now would want to stay
I wonder if it's worth a few of us dropping into the DT to say where the real convo's at. But I also don't want all the Reddit drama to end up here so...
It feels a little that way - especially since I guess there'd be few people there now that wouldn't know about this place. A lot of people have done what they could to bring the regulars in to this safer refuge, but if people don't want to leave then no one can force them.
Egh... just scrolled through some of the DT after posting. A few other regulars are there but holy fuck the trash seems to have blown right through the screen door.
It’s brutal in there. I’ve been following the API drama, and I can see the mods point about the mod tools becoming inaccessible. but then also read that many tool may not be affected now because there’s a threshold that needs to be met to be charged, and most of the mod tools fall under it? (I could be mistaken). But I honestly cannot see how posting about Florida will get any meaningful interaction or concessions from Reddit. I mean how exactly is it supposed to help? So I think I’m also on the unpopular opinion that it’s just people having an arms crossed foot stamp with no real action plan in mind.
Pretty sure the goal is that it pisses people off enough that they leave Reddit. Then it's technically not the mods forcing them off by setting the sub private, it's the users deciding they don't like the theme of the sub and choosing to leave. They seem to be removing links to other subreddits, but not to other communities on other platforms.
(The main thing that triggered this was that the Reddit admins sent the mods a message basically saying "open up now, or we will find someone who will", but they also said mods are otherwise free to run the sub how they see fit)
Hmm I guess that means mods have given up a just want to burn the place down in retaliation. I don’t think it will work. The Melbourne sub might get snuffed, but reddit as a whole will live on just fine. There are lots of active big communities with heaps of users. It won’t really matter if a few of the smaller subs disappear.
But also, I can't help but also feel like some people would be particularly unhappy about the entire blackout/protest situation as it is.
Some of the other subs already have people complaining about how some mods didn't get user consensus before proceeding, something that gets extra fuddled by some of the mods (of other subs) proving themselves to be hypocrites and hurting the movement as a whole.
Today is the day I ask my doctor for a cert for stress leave and I'm so nervous I feel ill. I really want to ask for a full two weeks, but I feel like that's a lot to ask for just off the cuff. It would be the perfect amount though and I would get to skip my night shift rotation which is desperately what I need.
Tell the doctor what you feel you need. If you are stressed it is from putting your job ahead of your own needs, and you won't get better by continuing to do the same thing. Better to have the two weeks you need now than have half the time now and four weeks later because you didn't allow enough time to recover the first time.
When I’ve discussed this with my GP before, they said one week for sever stress might help, but it’s really not enough. Hope your GP takes the same approach and gives you the time you need.
I'm not supposed to drink coffee normally this month because it could stain my temporary veneers, so I've been drinking iced coffee with straws. Until right now. As I sit outside this Bourke Street cafe, headphones adorned, audiobook playing while I people watch; I have before me a large, perfectly hot Melbourne coffee. A beverage I have not put to my lips since the beginning of winter.

I just discovered Aussie.Zone has a pictures community. I'm going to share some of my favourite Aussie holiday snaps there. It would be nice to get a bunch of photos in there from all over Australia, expecially if they have a bit more local flavour rather than just the aussie landmarks. Yo I’m gonna be honest, I’m sad about all this. Like my minds struggling to contain whatever this complex mixed up emotion is. Like I said in the dt before everything blew up, I’m not good at goodbyes. And part of me just feels like this is an end of some description, like nothings gonna be the same again. I don’t like change.
I feel like the community's been broken up, and I also feel sad. Instead of being in one place we've become divided, with some at Reddit and some here, some on discord and others forming new breakaway Reddit subs. I do like the vibe here better, it is definitely much nicer and more supportive in my opinion. Maybe it's all the anger over there, or maybe I'm wary because a handful of people just closed the sub without any consideration for the users and it could happen again. I'm definitely here to stay, but I miss what it used to be as well. We had a great thing and they broke it.
Just realised ive been active in that sub for over 10 years now, the DT has been through a number of changes in that time, people have come and go, i met people and forgot them, ive had some really good times over the years. Maybe just try to think of it as the end of a chapter, if you stuck around long enough its likely that alot of the people that kept you there would have changed or moved on to other things anyway.
I miss my old mate Brian, i cant even remember his username anymore (thanks ADHD), he was around in what i think of as the peak of DT, we were doing regular meetups and we were hitting 1000 comments a day on the reg. He was a great guy, i hope he is doing well

Funny what a difference it makes when you have people at work that have similar common interests than you do. Not to shit on people who love reality TV, but hearing that kind of stuff day in, day out in the office is enough for me to put my headphones in and drown the noise out with whatever genre I want for the day.
Change the topic to videogames and sure enough 30 minutes goes by in a blink (to which I'm sure those who want to talk about reality TV are then chucking headphones in themselves haha).

I watched a couple of seasons with Mum as she preferred FTA to streaming or arr'ed, peaced out for the ball cupping one and we tuned in again last year when Olivia went Olivia.
Producers encouraged infidelity, if sparks didn't fly from the start. If sparks did fly, the couples would be 'tested' a bit more to create tension.
Most groups scenes heavily edited to paint certain people as 'villains'.
About 50% of the participants only signed up to create drama.
Producers would spread fake rumours and see how people reacted, then they'd try to make the rumours reality if it looked like shit was going to get juicy.
One of my other big loves is pro wrestling, which is like... violent soap opera (in the easiest way to ever explain pro wrestling). Some of the people I know who love reality TV scoff at pro wrestling claiming it's scripted and fake. Which is true, but reality TV is no different... but at least with pro wrestling the physical element takes practice. Reality TV just seems to be "influencer A has a beef with influencer B, which influencer C tries to remain relevant".
Had a conversation about Starfield and how one of the older blokes at work couldn't get his head around it being a Microsoft exclusive - which then sent me into a dialogue about the current Activision buyout that's going on, as well as explaining No Man's Sky and how people are comparing it and Starfield (and how the devs have to say that the games are different).
But also a mate at work who's into RimWorld, which is weird because the types of conversations you have with other RimWorld users often leads to some really suspicious activities and then having to justify them - which is fine for other RimWorld players, but maybe not people who have either never played the game, or haven't played a videogame since Tetris on the OG GameBoy.
Yeah I’m not sure I “get” starfield. I didn’t enjoy no man’s sky after NEXT or whatever the update was that everyone said it was suddenly good. And I’m not sure I’ve ever LOVED a Bethesda game unconditionally. Fallout 3 was great, but buggy as shit. Skyrim was just as bad. Fallout 4 was a repetitive mess and the less said about 76 the better. Not sure why Todd Howard still has a job tbh.
Yeah, I pre-ordered No Man's Sky and played it a fair bit on launch. I tried to get back into it but for some reason I found that all of a sudden I was building bases and stuff where as all I wanted to do was fly my spacecraft.
And I get where you're coming from with Bethesda - especially with the buggy mess their games can be. It's why I'm holding out with Starfield - I'll get it six months down the line when it's on sale or something. For me, I loved Fallout 3 and Skyrim (bugs aside) but Fallout 4 didn't grab me nearly as much, and Fallout 76 was online so ew, gross. They haven't even set a release date for the next Elder Scrolls game, and asides from that, Bethesda's IP is centred on the devs who made Dishonoured and what not, which I was never really a fan of. I tried, but I just don't have patience for games that require me to sit in the dark for five minutes, meticulously mapping out what routes the bad guys take so I can take them down quietly (only for them to still spot me anyway because of some bug or whatever and I'm back to square one).
Completely agree on dishonoured. Mrs loves it, but not my cup of tea at all. I HOPE Starfield is awesome. I loved the old freelancer game (hence why I backed star citizen)

Briefly had a look at the Australian subreddit. My God, the racism over there is disgusting. It's been very visibily brigaded by the no-campaign, yet the mods do nothing.
Really, really glad I'm moving on from reddit, if only because I'm sick of seeing this shit.
Moving this community to a smaller site will drop so many of the brigading trolls that swing by the big subs and topics. I'm suspicious of social media, all that racism could be coming from a few people with many accounts.
I'm still mad that I got banned for 7 weeks for talking about politics when other people were talking politics in a thread. And IIRC it was pretty tame too.
The Canada sub was the same with the posts about Canadian Muslims protesting drag queen story times and sex ed for kids. Full of hate for Muslims, lefties, snowflakes etc.

I recently bought a fancy rice cooker (upgraded from the trusty cheapo kmart one button one), and this one has a smaller cup capacity (3c instead of 6 or 10) which is perfect for 2 people who don't need huge quantities of rice. Plus it made amazing rice, including brown rice which I've never managed to cook well before! Very happy hehe

I've been trying to wean myself off this 10 year old dual-screen desktop PC for a while, it's a Win 7 and Office 2010 setup that's no longer supportable. But it's been the cornerstone of my life for a decade and I flick it on first thing in the morning because that's what I've always done. PC first, then the kettle for tea.
I bought a snazzy Win 11 gaming laptop late last year but it's barely been used. I need to sort my shit out and finally migrate to it, and today might be the day. I've got all the personal and business email accounts working, an Office 365 licence, and OneDrive cloud storage sorted. Went to Officeworks for a second monitor this afternoon (went in for a basic 24", came out with a 27" curved gaming one. Of course I did).
The new house has a study nook with a really long desk surface, so I reckon I'll be able to run both setups side-by-side, but I'm in cable hell and it's going to take some effort to unravel everything. Wish me luck, friends.
I'm kicking goals today.
Coffee beans have been roasted and leek & potato soup has been made.
The new mattress topper from Koala arrived (thanks to whoever mentioned getting one sent free!) and has been put on the bed along with new sheets. Old bedding is in the washing machine.
A grocery order has been made and will be arriving later today - Coles gave me $10 off if I spend $100 via the app, so I added a couple of things to stock up on and bought $10 of freezer bags to donate to the food pantry.
I've ordered some different types of kitty litter to try, hopefully Miss Meow will approve.
And coles just told me they have substituted medium bags for the large. Seriously, different sizes are not the same thing. Annoying. Hopefully they will refund the money and I can buy more large ones.

If he seems coherent then definitely, if it's someone that might having a bit of an episode, I have no idea. Not trained or experienced to deal with such situations unfortunatley.
Yeah any clothes I wear on public transport immediately go in the washing basket when I get home. I’m not sitting on my couch/chairs etc with my germy tram or train clothes.

Today I have been doing functional crap but finally set my delay and distortion pedals up with all associated leads and the pedals off the floor so the cats can't chew them. Its running through Aux 1 so I can again put a nice echo effect on stupid things like youtubes. Not as fun as when I used to wake and bake but still at least its all working again. Glad I kept that little piano stool. It was nearly taken to the opshop three times I think. Still need to cable up the dj setup amp and speakers but lost my motivation. Another coffee I think, pic attached so you know what heck I'm talking about if you're not a muso. If you are, in before the metal zone (yuck), it's fine.
Scored a nice red pvc jacket from the opshop, put some other recent jacket scores in for repairs, with both costing more than the jackets, but they're worth it. Bought one of those cat tunnels and the cats tired themselves out playing it, really happy with that. I bought a cheap one though and it's a bit shit but it'll do, they don't understand money.
Taking the last of my stuff I need to downsize out of my life to the opshop soon. Fuck... it's almost all done! I've slowed down in the last six weeks cos I was on a bender, but I've stopped drinking and back on top of things. Also finally getting the hang of liquid eyeliner which seems like a big step in the right direction.

Thanks friend. I'm 95% fine apart occasional bouts of the cough. I only suffered for maybe 2-3 days tops. Been okay since. Dosed up on eucalyptus lozenges that kind of helped but I ate them more for the flavour. Hope yours buggers off quickly too.
Mine went the other way and resulted in a nose that would drip freely. Wearing a mask helped greatly when I was out and about, since I could stuff tissues up each nostril without anyone knowing.
I'm confused, please can someone explain? So the Reddit DT is up again and some of the regs are posting there (and some here also). There's also Florida things. What's happening? Are we staying here or migrating back? Argh!
They (probably?!) did a poll on discord to decide to maliciously comply and change the sub to Melbourne, FL. There've been multiple times when they should've done a poll properly on reddit but they didn't, so some of that anger is justified. With the r/melbourne posts about Melbourne gone, many of the usual post-commenters are angrily commenting on the DT. I'm staying.
Might have made more sense to make the poll on the subreddit itself, though. If you're not on the discord, and are just on Reddit, it might seem a bit unilateral for it to suddenly change out of nowhere.
Mods are in protest of reddit forcing them to reopen by changing the rules of the sub to be about Melbourne Florida. A lot of other subs have done the same, but the r Melbourne mods havnt gone about it in the best way.
I agree with the malicious compliance. But having a DT amongst it feels... Weird? Like I stated yesterday, I'm staying here unless everyone decides to move back over to r/Melbourne.
Kind of funny, though. It's like life proceeding as normal, despite a hurricane. The dog is being blown halfway across the country, but you absolutely must go to the coffee shop, where everything is obstinately normal, in spite of everything.

I was extremely disorganised with dinner prep which means I'm having a third of a leftover chicken thigh and some stir fry veg for dinner. Man I don't even remember when this chicken was from lol.
Does anyone have specific ways to budget? Whether this is using apps or specific spreadsheets? Budgeting is hard, and especially with ADHD I'm like "ooo money" and I've gotten into some serious trouble from spending money and forgetting about the responsibilities I have. There's the 50/30/20 rule which seems pretty doable. I might change my health insurance to be paid monthly instead of the fortnight it was originally set due to being paid fortnightly (this new job will pay me out monthly instead).

Hey brains trust, I need your help with a translation.
Does anyone know of/can think of a word that’s the same/similar to ‘automaton’ that has a bit more… humanity to it? The original uses the word ‘sleepwalker’, but that doesn’t really work well in this translation. Automaton fits a lot better but is too anachronistic. ‘Zombie’ is also anachronistic and is out.

We were standing in the hallway on the first floor, though it seemed more like we were standing at the gates of Hell. Burnt and wounded naked bodies were crouched all around, screaming and writhing in agony. It was just like hell. I was terrified. I was really, truly afraid to be among such people. I think I have finally fixed a problem with my computer going to sleep and not waking up. Some sort of virtual keyboard that had a driver installed was blocking it from responding to my actual keyboard while in sleep mode. I still haven't worked out why it was going to sleep when the settings were set not to.
I'm not usually one to do this but I am rugged UP for bed tonight! I own these flannel PJ pants but usually they're just for movie nights on the couch. Tonight they get a run at what they were made for coz I'm one freezy bull. Shits about to get real cuddly up in here.

We had nowhere else to go so some kind people set this up. Here we have civil conversations instead of the great big ball of anger that are found elsewhere.
If it was so obscure then why did you seek us out in the first place? Not to be rude or anything, I just don't understand why there'd be so much hostility when all this place is is a home away from home. I'm sure the majority of us would prefer the DT to be back to the way it was before, but that's not going to happen any time soon - at least this is a nice refuge for people who just want to enjoy chatting with like-minded people.
What makes/made the DT special is the people, and that's ultimately all it needs. Bringing anything else into it, like some weird form of tribalism where some people just outright refuse the change seems absurd. But also, like... I get it, the Reddit DT is convenient. Most people are on Reddit anyway so it's nice to call in and say hello. I guess for me, this place is worth chilling out in because ultimately so many of my friends are here :)

It feels a little that way - especially since I guess there'd be few people there now that wouldn't know about this place. A lot of people have done what they could to bring the regulars in to this safer refuge, but if people don't want to leave then no one can force them.

It’s brutal in there. I’ve been following the API drama, and I can see the mods point about the mod tools becoming inaccessible. but then also read that many tool may not be affected now because there’s a threshold that needs to be met to be charged, and most of the mod tools fall under it? (I could be mistaken). But I honestly cannot see how posting about Florida will get any meaningful interaction or concessions from Reddit. I mean how exactly is it supposed to help? So I think I’m also on the unpopular opinion that it’s just people having an arms crossed foot stamp with no real action plan in mind.
Pretty sure the goal is that it pisses people off enough that they leave Reddit. Then it's technically not the mods forcing them off by setting the sub private, it's the users deciding they don't like the theme of the sub and choosing to leave. They seem to be removing links to other subreddits, but not to other communities on other platforms.
(The main thing that triggered this was that the Reddit admins sent the mods a message basically saying "open up now, or we will find someone who will", but they also said mods are otherwise free to run the sub how they see fit)
Hmm I guess that means mods have given up a just want to burn the place down in retaliation. I don’t think it will work. The Melbourne sub might get snuffed, but reddit as a whole will live on just fine. There are lots of active big communities with heaps of users. It won’t really matter if a few of the smaller subs disappear.

Today is the day I ask my doctor for a cert for stress leave and I'm so nervous I feel ill. I really want to ask for a full two weeks, but I feel like that's a lot to ask for just off the cuff. It would be the perfect amount though and I would get to skip my night shift rotation which is desperately what I need.
Mate ask for two weeks. If you don't ask, you don't receive.
Tell the doctor what you feel you need. If you are stressed it is from putting your job ahead of your own needs, and you won't get better by continuing to do the same thing. Better to have the two weeks you need now than have half the time now and four weeks later because you didn't allow enough time to recover the first time.

I'm not supposed to drink coffee normally this month because it could stain my temporary veneers, so I've been drinking iced coffee with straws. Until right now. As I sit outside this Bourke Street cafe, headphones adorned, audiobook playing while I people watch; I have before me a large, perfectly hot Melbourne coffee. A beverage I have not put to my lips since the beginning of winter.

sometimes if your instance doesn’t recognise the community in search it’s because no one has searched that from your instance before.
It could take a few goes of reloading the page and search again for it to work.
I recently searched for Sydney community from my instance and nothing came up until like the 8th try.
Sometimes, no-one on the instance has subbed yet, so it won't show up. You might need to put an exclamation mark on the front to have it come up (to make the server check for other servers, rather than what's just been synced).

Yo I’m gonna be honest, I’m sad about all this. Like my minds struggling to contain whatever this complex mixed up emotion is. Like I said in the dt before everything blew up, I’m not good at goodbyes. And part of me just feels like this is an end of some description, like nothings gonna be the same again. I don’t like change.
I feel like the community's been broken up, and I also feel sad. Instead of being in one place we've become divided, with some at Reddit and some here, some on discord and others forming new breakaway Reddit subs. I do like the vibe here better, it is definitely much nicer and more supportive in my opinion. Maybe it's all the anger over there, or maybe I'm wary because a handful of people just closed the sub without any consideration for the users and it could happen again. I'm definitely here to stay, but I miss what it used to be as well. We had a great thing and they broke it.
Just realised ive been active in that sub for over 10 years now, the DT has been through a number of changes in that time, people have come and go, i met people and forgot them, ive had some really good times over the years. Maybe just try to think of it as the end of a chapter, if you stuck around long enough its likely that alot of the people that kept you there would have changed or moved on to other things anyway.
I miss my old mate Brian, i cant even remember his username anymore (thanks ADHD), he was around in what i think of as the peak of DT, we were doing regular meetups and we were hitting 1000 comments a day on the reg. He was a great guy, i hope he is doing well

Funny what a difference it makes when you have people at work that have similar common interests than you do. I watched a couple of seasons with Mum as she preferred FTA to streaming or arr'ed, peaced out for the ball cupping one and we tuned in again last year when Olivia went Olivia.
Producers encouraged infidelity, if sparks didn't fly from the start. If sparks did fly, the couples would be 'tested' a bit more to create tension. Most groups scenes heavily edited to paint certain people as 'villains'.
About 50% of the participants only signed up to create drama. Producers would spread fake rumours and see how people reacted, then they'd try to make the rumours reality if it looked like shit was going to get juicy.
One of my other big loves is pro wrestling, which is like... violent soap opera (in the easiest way to ever explain pro wrestling). Some of the people I know who love reality TV scoff at pro wrestling claiming it's scripted and fake. Which is true, but reality TV is no different... but at least with pro wrestling the physical element takes practice. Reality TV just seems to be "influencer A has a beef with influencer B, which influencer C tries to remain relevant".
wrestling is meant to be fun, it doesn't take itself seriously and is in on the joke. I like it.

Had a conversation about Starfield and how one of the older blokes at work couldn't get his head around it being a Microsoft exclusive - which then sent me into a dialogue about the current Activision buyout that's going on, as well as explaining No Man's Sky and how people are comparing it and Starfield (and how the devs have to say that the games are different).
But also a mate at work who's into RimWorld, which is weird because the types of conversations you have with other RimWorld users often leads to some really suspicious activities and then having to justify them - which is fine for other RimWorld players, but maybe not people who have either never played the game, or haven't played a videogame since Tetris on the OG GameBoy.
Yeah I’m not sure I “get” starfield. I didn’t enjoy no man’s sky after NEXT or whatever the update was that everyone said it was suddenly good. And I’m not sure I’ve ever LOVED a Bethesda game unconditionally. Fallout 3 was great, but buggy as shit. Skyrim was just as bad. Fallout 4 was a repetitive mess and the less said about 76 the better. Not sure why Todd Howard still has a job tbh.
Yeah, I pre-ordered No Man's Sky and played it a fair bit on launch. I tried to get back into it but for some reason I found that all of a sudden I was building bases and stuff where as all I wanted to do was fly my spacecraft.
And I get where you're coming from with Bethesda - especially with the buggy mess their games can be. It's why I'm holding out with Starfield - I'll get it six months down the line when it's on sale or something. For me, I loved Fallout 3 and Skyrim (bugs aside) but Fallout 4 didn't grab me nearly as much, and Fallout 76 was online so ew, gross. They haven't even set a release date for the next Elder Scrolls game, and asides from that, Bethesda's IP is centred on the devs who made Dishonoured and what not, which I was never really a fan of. I tried, but I just don't have patience for games that require me to sit in the dark for five minutes, meticulously mapping out what routes the bad guys take so I can take them down quietly (only for them to still spot me anyway because of some bug or whatever and I'm back to square one).
Completely agree on dishonoured. Mrs loves it, but not my cup of tea at all. I HOPE Starfield is awesome. I loved the old freelancer game (hence why I backed star citizen)

I recently bought a fancy rice cooker (upgraded from the trusty cheapo kmart one button one), and this one has a smaller cup capacity (3c instead of 6 or 10) which is perfect for 2 people who don't need huge quantities of rice. Plus it made amazing rice, including brown rice which I've never managed to cook well before! Very happy hehe

I've been trying to wean myself off this 10 year old dual-screen desktop PC for a while, it's a Win 7 and Office 2010 setup that's no longer supportable. But it's been the cornerstone of my life for a decade and I flick it on first thing in the morning because that's what I've always done. PC first, then the kettle for tea.
I bought a snazzy Win 11 gaming laptop late last year but it's barely been used. I need to sort my shit out and finally migrate to it, and today might be the day. I've got all the personal and business email accounts working, an Office 365 licence, and OneDrive cloud storage sorted. Went to Officeworks for a second monitor this afternoon (went in for a basic 24", came out with a 27" curved gaming one. Of course I did).
The new house has a study nook with a really long desk surface, so I reckon I'll be able to run both setups side-by-side, but I'm in cable hell and it's going to take some effort to unravel everything. Wish me luck, friends.

The new mattress topper from Koala arrived (thanks to whoever mentioned getting one sent free!) and has been put on the bed along with new sheets. Old bedding is in the washing machine.
A grocery order has been made and will be arriving later today - Coles gave me $10 off if I spend $100 via the app, so I added a couple of things to stock up on and bought $10 of freezer bags to donate to the food pantry.
I've ordered some different types of kitty litter to try, hopefully Miss Meow will approve.
And coles just told me they have substituted medium bags for the large. Seriously, different sizes are not the same thing. Annoying. Hopefully they will refund the money and I can buy more large ones.

Probably something along the lines 'Hey mate, do you need a bit of help? I can help you find a toilet or call someone perhaps?' Very quietly of course. And depends on his behaviour too of course. If he seems coherent then definitely, if it's someone that might having a bit of an episode, I have no idea. Not trained or experienced to deal with such situations unfortunatley.

Yeah any clothes I wear on public transport immediately go in the washing basket when I get home. I’m not sitting on my couch/chairs etc with my germy tram or train clothes.

Today I have been doing functional crap but finally set my delay and distortion pedals up with all associated leads and the pedals off the floor so the cats can't chew them. Its running through Aux 1 so I can again put a nice echo effect on stupid things like youtubes. Not as fun as when I used to wake and bake but still at least its all working again. Glad I kept that little piano stool. It was nearly taken to the opshop three times I think. Still need to cable up the dj setup amp and speakers but lost my motivation. Another coffee I think, pic attached so you know what heck I'm talking about if you're not a muso. If you are, in before the metal zone (yuck), it's fine.
Scored a nice red pvc jacket from the opshop, put some other recent jacket scores in for repairs, with both costing more than the jackets, but they're worth it. Bought one of those cat tunnels and the cats tired themselves out playing it, really happy with that. I bought a cheap one though and it's a bit shit but it'll do, they don't understand money.
Taking the last of my stuff I need to downsize out of my life to the opshop soon. Fuck... it's almost all done! I've slowed down in the last six weeks cos I was on a bender, but I've stopped drinking and back on top of things. Also finally getting the hang of liquid eyeliner which seems like a big step in the right direction.

it took a week of extra sleep and lots of bisolvon lozenges ( which have nasty sugars but I thought a week of gas was worth getting rid of the tickle )
Thanks friend. I'm 95% fine apart occasional bouts of the cough. I only suffered for maybe 2-3 days tops. Been okay since. Dosed up on eucalyptus lozenges that kind of helped but I ate them more for the flavour. Hope yours buggers off quickly too.

Mine went the other way and resulted in a nose that would drip freely. Wearing a mask helped greatly when I was out and about, since I could stuff tissues up each nostril without anyone knowing.

It’s too much for me to invest in two DT’s. I’m staying here until the sub has gone back to normal, if/when that happens.
They (probably?!) did a poll on discord to decide to maliciously comply and change the sub to Melbourne, FL. There've been multiple times when they should've done a poll properly on reddit but they didn't, so some of that anger is justified. With the r/melbourne posts about Melbourne gone, many of the usual post-commenters are angrily commenting on the DT. I'm staying.
Might have made more sense to make the poll on the subreddit itself, though. If you're not on the discord, and are just on Reddit, it might seem a bit unilateral for it to suddenly change out of nowhere.
I'm staying here for the time being because that shit over there is not over.
Mods are in protest of reddit forcing them to reopen by changing the rules of the sub to be about Melbourne Florida. A lot of other subs have done the same, but the r Melbourne mods havnt gone about it in the best way.

Does anyone have specific ways to budget? Whether this is using apps or specific spreadsheets? Budgeting is hard, and especially with ADHD I'm like "ooo money" and I've gotten into some serious trouble from spending money and forgetting about the responsibilities I have. There's the 50/30/20 rule which seems pretty doable. I might change my health insurance to be paid monthly instead of the fortnight it was originally set due to being paid fortnightly (this new job will pay me out monthly instead).

Hey brains trust, I need your help with a translation.
Does anyone know of/can think of a word that’s the same/similar to ‘automaton’ that has a bit more… humanity to it? The original uses the word ‘sleepwalker’, but that doesn’t really work well in this translation. Automaton fits a lot better but is too anachronistic. ‘Zombie’ is also anachronistic and is out.

I think I have finally fixed a problem with my computer going to sleep and not waking up. Some sort of virtual keyboard that had a driver installed was blocking it from responding to my actual keyboard while in sleep mode. I still haven't worked out why it was going to sleep when the settings were set not to.

If it was so obscure then why did you seek us out in the first place? What makes/made the DT special is the people, and that's ultimately all it needs. Bringing anything else into it, like some weird form of tribalism where some people just outright refuse the change seems absurd. But also, like... I get it, the Reddit DT is convenient. Most people are on Reddit anyway so it's nice to call in and say hello. I guess for me, this place is worth chilling out in because ultimately so many of my friends are here :)
