AFL announces State of Origin return with WA-Vic clash confirmed

The AFL has announced the return of State of Origin football for the first time in 27 years.

AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon confirmed Western Australia would host Victoria at Perth Stadium on February 14 in a standalone exhibition game.

It will mark the first true state vs state AFL match played since 1999, when Victoria defeated South Australia at the MCG.

Ex-West Coast player becomes AFL's first openly bisexual man

So much respect for Mitch, knowing that he's had a history of dealing with homophobia throughout his career and he'll cop even more after this announcement. But his decision here makes the sport so, so, so much better for everyone in the long run.

Pretty upsetting to hear the anecdotes about homophobic teammates. I hope this is less normalised now.

I'll be seeing a WCE supporting mate this evening, our relationship has suffered this year as our friendly rivalry now just feels mean.
