The Supreme Court rejects Biden's plan to wipe away $400 billion in student loan debt
But the forgiven PPP loans are A-OK, right? Fuck this shit.

What are your niche hobbies you’d like to share with other people?
Ham radio! It's relaxing. My favorite activity is to take my portable gear to parks and operate Parks on the Air.

What is something that people think is dangerous but in reality is completely harmless?

We have a similar one here in the US. People think if you go outside when it's too cold, you'll get sick.

Is anybody else more active here then they were on Reddit?
Yes. It’s far less hostile here and I don’t fear getting downvoted to hell for asking a question.

Reddit refugees on Lemmy, how you guys liking lemmy so far?
I've been here 1 month and haven't logged into Reddit since then. I vastly prefer it here. People are friendlier.

I'm getting downvoted in the /r/gis sub for agreeing with the mods that there should be an indefinite shutdown. It seems all that are left on the site are people simping for /u/spez. Some person even called me a "fucking idiot." Glad to be off that toxic dumpster fire of a website.

What was the main reason you left Reddit?
I was on the fence about it until the Spez AMA. Then, I decided I'd be leaving on the 30th.
Then, I had a user call me "fucking stupid" for supporting a sub shutting down, and that was the final straw for me. I had seen how friendly people on Lemmy are and this showed me how toxic Reddit is by comparison. So I immediately nuked all my comments & posts and deleted my account. This was around two weeks ago and I've been much happier here.

It's near enough the big city that I can go do fun things when I want, but it's quiet here and not a lot of traffic.

r/The_Donald now on Lemmy (edit: not anymore)
Wasn't The Donald originally a subreddit making fun of trump? I saw that TD was created here but my assumption was they wanted to restore the original purpose. I haven't looked at it since then though.
Edit: Nope. It is in fact a pro trump community.

Reddit missed their own deadline for enabling rate limits and now they are weeks away. 🤦♀️
Reply in thread
I think he mentioned that the app stopped working before the deadline, and then he deleted the token at that point. So Reddit disabled his app early because they’re assholes.

eReader recommendations?
I still see Kobo recommended these days, so an upgrade might be a good option for you. I use a Kindle, but that obviously locks you in with Amazon. I wish I'd have gotten a Kobo myself.

Apollo for Reddit is shutting down
This was the final nail for me. I'm moving over to Lemmy full time and will be nuking my reddit account soon.
Anyone know what the best way to delete all reddit comments and posts is?

What party will you be supporting in 2024?
I’ll begrudgingly vote for Biden again. I’d prefer someone further left, but I desperately want to prevent the Rs from winning.

What are the bad patterns of Reddit to never repeat on Lemmy?
Reply in thread
That's already happening here in AskLemmy. 90% of the posts are support questions, and there's a sticky and a sidebar rule specifically banning those.

I was thinking this morning, it seems ready for a 1.0 release already.

How are we going to pay for all this?
I just signed up for the Lemmy.ml patreon. I wish they had a $5 per month option, but I can just not skip ordering doordash one extra time and help pay for this instance. I use the hell out of it so it's the least I can do.
