Essentially, when you're infected with measles, your immune system abruptly forgets every pathogen it's ever encountered before – every cold, every bout of flu, every exposure to bacteria or viruses in the environment, every vaccination. The loss is near-total and permanent. Once the measles infection is over, current evidence suggests that your body has to re-learn what's good and what's bad almost from scratch. https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20211112-the-people-with-immune-amnesia

Reddit has been a an archive of some of the greatest collective minds of humanity. Besides the general algorithm up voting bots hogwash, there have been some really good subreddits with excellent information from learned professionals on topics. it I wish it was preserved rather than deleted. The AskHistorians is one of my favourite professional vetted and clean subreddits, lots of academic discussions there.

But all things have a Golden Era, and then it's enshittified and fades away. As Lemmy will be one day too.

Trump literally told them that he will not need them after this again. No, he does not want or care for their support!

"In four years, You don't have to vote again. We'll have it fixed so good. You're not going to have to vote."

Omg is this the joke? Chalk in milk? So it took me 30 years to actually understand this Simpsons joke?

The golden years writers were so genius.

NYT stating the obvious after enabling the sanewashing for years.

We thought the same thing about Netflix with the sharing password bans. Yet they retained more profit than ever the next year.

Who's to say if this is what will make Reddit end, or did they actually just got more successful after the end of 3rd party apps compared to the declaration of so many users back then?

Digital personal verification is just going to become a fact of life in the future for everyone born after about 2012. They will use online ID cards, biometrics, location metadata that is constantly uploaded by our devices, maybe even implanted RFID encrypted chips for account verification. Passwords are becoming outdated and outmoded for security as we speak here. 2FA is the minimum security for online today but that may soon become outmoded as well.

1990s was the peak prosperity of US civilization. From best music to best promise of hope and wealth distribution. 9/11 attacks were the point of the beginning of the end really.

There's only two things I hate in this world: people who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

I can only have an opinion when Fox News informs me of the new outrageous fad for this week.

“When war begins, politicians give weapons, the rich give bread, and the poor give their sons. When war ends, politicians shake hands, the rich raise the price of bread, and the poor search for the graves of their sons.”

It's new. Honda Space Development Division.

A lot of the global conglomerate Asian based companies do R&D across many fields, rather than just the product they're most know for. Toshiba makes nuclear reactors! Samsung has phones and sewing machines and microchips.... and nuclear reactors research.

Realizing that the Nazis were inspired by the USA.

I think that at this point people should settle on the fact that the only consequences Trump will ever face is in a history book 30 years after WW3/Civil War 2.

Well except in the Reconstruction States because there will be a number of lies that will endure forever, similar to the Lost Cause and Stabbed in the Back myths.

Facebook and unregulated social media. Up to now most governments in the world don't even have a clue or idea that the internet is a very powerful tool that should actually be regulated because there are very evil people who will always act in bad faith to manipulate others for power and control. The Golden era of the internet is definitely over, I think 2016 was a defined shift that will be recorded by historians.

And you never will. Thanks for playing The Decline of Democracy and Sanity.

The beloved Patriot Act 20 years later.

Göring: Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.

He's a spider monkey with base 8 fingers.

You'd think so....

But they actually want this.

Anyone? Anyone?
