Personally I just miss when we had individual sites for a topic like when I was a teenager. Grew up on forums for a certain artist and another different site for specific sports teams, books. Way less likely to get idiots if you actually have to actively find the specific website for an artist you hate.

Generally the advice is moving everything out of the way, if possible a blanket or something under their head as quickly as possible if they are on a hard surface and calling the ambulance (if someone else is there get them to do that straight away while you move stuff!) Also a good idea to time the seizure if possible! When they come to, have them stay laying down for a few minutes at least before sitting up. Some people can appear to be okay but go back into seizure so slowly, slowly with sitting up and even before offering a water.

If you know someone who has seizures, even irregularly, it's a good idea to ask them about it beforehand in case it ever happens when you're with them. People can have different management plans and it also just gives you some guidance and the other person some control should it happen.

Yes! It's actually an important distinction to make between being able to read the article and being able to comprehend it and then furthermore being able to contextualise it.

Interestingly, I believe this is somewhat similar, but also a bit of a digression so forgive me lol. I am autistic and many people I interact with don't notice unless I tell them. My report actually says, that, particularly with verbal social interactions, although it can appear that I understand everything I'm actually only getting that kind of "surface level" information - hence I can miss social cues and such. I can get along okay with that surface level information because I can still participate in the conversation with the bare bones.

I think this is somewhat similar to how some people can read - they can read the words, get the general gist but they miss a lot of the implications that aren't directly stated. This is why you get a lot of people who can regurgitate kind of "headline news" but don't actually understand the issue being discussed - they understand the formed sentences but not the full picture. I'm not sure if that makes sense but that's how I am starting to understand the difference that some people have between reading and comprehension. And how it explains that sometimes someone can sound like they might know what they are talking about - until the conversation gets to a certain point.

Especially video games. Honestly as a casual gamer I get it. Games are expensive and they are a gamble. I've bought games in the past and played them for half hour and realized I hate it lol. I rarely buy games now, especially if it's not a franchise I already know and like, because I can't afford the gamble. If I do I buy a physical copy so I can sell it on.

At least with streaming services you can check and know there's a few hours of shows you will definitely watch. It's still tol expensive and I'm cancelling mine but it is less of a gamble than video games.

Idk, I'm not in the US but if a therapist was found to break confidentiality or to have possession of information unethically then there'd be a media and political storm on it. Particularly since covid, more therapy and healthcare is conducted online. For some people it may even be the only accessible option.

You are not stupid where I live to expect health organizations to abide by the laws around confidentiality 😅 You would expect health organizations to have the highest secured systems and if they were exposed it would be in a cyber attack from an outside party and the information available for that kind of attack would be limited, de-identified, - it would be an absolute top level scandal, mass class action suit, criminal charges if whole identifiable transcripts of sessions like this were being stored and released in a way that breached the law.

People seeking out therapy are already vulnerable, not stupid. They may be desperate and unfortunately, there are some shitty apps and stuff that DON'T fall under regulations. It's important to make sure you're talking to a real person and the organization is a registered provider ( however that works in various countries) but a person is not stupid for being intentionally preyed on in their vulnerablity and desperation by greedy, unethical people.

Yeah we actually learned very quickly about that in legal studies (high school) way back in 2000s and it was presented like a silly Americans (Australian here) kind of thing, just a quick silly case in a small box in the textbook. Wasn't til I got older I learned the full story!

We had an Aussie silly case too, not just picking on the US 😅 ours was about some drink in an opaque bottle and someone drank it all before they could see there was some kind of bug or even a snail in the bottle? Something like that so they sued the drink company 🤢 can't remember enough about that one to find anything on it!

Also getting back into poetry and learning different techniques around writing. Not sure I always like some of the very rigid "rules" but it's interesting to learn. I've never been particularly technical with my writing but it has opened my mind to trying new styles.

Yeah this is what I've observed too. It's very, very strange to see the messaging around these things change. For extra context I'm autistic and have mental health issues myself. People confuse me in general lol.

I feel like I've watched things go from "no, no, we don't talk about those things, sweep it under the rug, everything is fine" to "reach out! Speak to someone! Believe victims! It's ok not to be ok! #mentalhealth #noshame" and then in recent years we've developed the term "trauma dumping" which appears even to apply to friends.

It feels a little like we went "speak up, reach out.....ah fuck, no no stop now". I actually find it quite concerning.

And then people wonder why others are turning to AI companions. I don't personally but it does make sense to me when the social game is as confusing as it is especially around mental health or even quite minor stuff things can get the "trauma dump" label. I even remember seeing a couple of people say you shouldn't trauma dump on your THERAPIST 😅😅😅

Agreed. Always thought this, never understood why private schools get anything from government. How're we funding private education but whingeing about stuff like the NDIS or the public school system suffering? I'm going to guess that public school teachers are leaving the job at a higher rate than private so maybe the money could help retain some good teachers and resources that support them to be able to stay in the job without burning out for the scummy public kids (/s)?

Absolutely agree. People who are asking questions (in good faith) are looking for a human interaction, not just a Google search. It's much more engaging for a lot of people to have a discussion about something new than to just read about it. Then if they're interested they might choose to go deeper in their own research.

I'm not techy but this goes for anything. "Google it" just shuts down human interaction and someone who is trying to learn. Better to just not answer than to be condescending if you don't want to engage in a discussion.

I don't think so lol. I'm not a super techy person and the only reason I know Linux is because of my high school boyfriend lol, 20 years ago, who used it. I think he set it up on one of my computers at one point too. I don't think I've ever heard anyone else (offline) talk about Linux 😅 definitely not a common knowledge thing.

It's actually been pretty interesting watching some of the stuff he used back 20 years ago that has started being spoken about more commonly that were just "nerd shit" back then lol. Vpns are common knowledge now, they were definitely "nerd shit" back in the day. Plex is widely used. I'm also glad I still have access to the private tracker he got me onto because that's grown big too, easy as.

But Linux? Nope. I don't think that's entered the common knowledge base. People know windows, android and maybe iOS. I don't even think a lot of people would know what "open source" means.

I think that's kinda the point of allegories - they are timeless and open to interpretation. People read animal farm and can apply it to various parts of society, politics, philosophy. If it was too detailed and specific it would be MORE like a history book and just about the Russian Revolution. Which would likely not have had such a wide reach as it continues to have.
