I think this is part of the problem. He doesn't have a strong social circle and most of what it had been had been her friends, now mostly lost. He's still pretty healthy but has other life situations keeping him trapped in place. Figuring out how to get him out of the house might be a good next step, once we can break him of this.

He did mention specifically she was "oriental" as if it was some kind of check in the "not a scam" column.

OP here. This is part of my issue with this whole situation. He's not a dumb guy. He knows better. Or knew better. Always been good with money, always had a cynical view of any institution (correctly, as it turns out). In addition to figuring out how to get him out of this I need to come to grips with the fact he's not the same man who I knew.

I appreciate the puns in this thread but on a serious note most states have a process to inspect and approve hobby cars for road-worthiness. That's the one question not answered in the article: is the vehicle actually legal to be driving on the road?

I had a revelation the other day. Our IT team (top 500 US company) had an MS exec come in and pitch to the entire leadership team (100s of people) on the MS AI strategy and what it could mean for us. 100% sales pitch and corporate bullshit but our execs sucked this guy's dick so fucking hard. And it hit me... We're not a tech company. These IT professionals got stuck in this backward company and wish they were working for one of the big five - where the cool kids work. They don't give any shits about how or whether AI works at a real level, they're just cosplaying like they are big time tech bros. That's it, full stop.

The more you take logic out of it the more it makes sense.

You're a good friend and compassionate human being. Honestly, more energy than I would probably have invested but I respect the hell out of you for it.
