So wise.

Another counter-intuitive percentage fact: A 10 percent discount and a 10 percent fee can be calculated in either order but they don't cancel out.

Example, 90% of (110% of 10) = 110% of (90% of 10). But neither of those is evaluates to 10. They evaluate to 9.9.

For any percentage X, and and base value C, (100 - X)% x ((100 + X)% x C) = (100 + X)% x ((100 - X)% x C) = (100 - (X^2/100))% x C

I really don't get the anti AC fraction

Too cold is always better than too hot. Period.

Get a hot tea. Put on a sweater. Put on a fucking blanket, I don't care. You can fix being cold. You're just whining.

I can't strip down to my underwear and dunk myself into a cool water bath at work. It's frowned upon.

Top Democrat seems sour after Mamdani-backed candidates oust House incumbents

If Jeffries is annoyed with you, you probably did something right. If your incumbents are just there to tow the party line, kiss corporate ass, kiss Netanyahu's ass, and give, at most, flaccid resistance to the Republican agenda before bending to their will, they deserve to lose their seats. The few progressives we have need more numbers. I'll happily sacrifice a few milquetoast party dems for progressives with a backbone and an agenda for change.

Basically everything about the house elves and the culturally norms around them is extremely problematic. No debate there.

But A) giving an Asian girl an anglicized Asian-ish name is not in itself racist. Chang is a common Chinese surname. Cho seems to be a fabrication and only vaguely Chinese sounding. She definitely could have picked a real name, but calling that racist seems like a stretch.

B) You're calling Hermione "the black girl", affirming a hard finality to her race that very notably was stated by Rowling to be open to interpretation. And of the many films, games, artwork, etc. depicting her, she's depicted as white in the vast majority of cases. It is fine if you interpret the character as black, casting a black actress, etc., but it is silly to treat that as an objective filter when convenient just for criticisms sake.

Pool

So...

A) Those are not the tallest buildings in the world. Only One World Trade Center is even in the top 10 (7th, specifically).

B) The Empire State Building is not 1464 ft, but 1250 ft. And it's not taller than Willis (Sears) Tower which is 1450ft.

C) There are 3 buildings in the world taller than the reflection pool is long.

D) It's a stupid thing to boast on the length of a pool, period, let alone one you didn't build, let alone by comparing it to the heights of skyscrapers. You can dig a pool as arbitrarily long as you wish with little to no extra trouble with making it longer besides maintenance logistics. Skyscrapers of such height are engineering marvels.

E) You illegally paid another grifter buddy to half-ass the job that shouldn't have been done in the first place for an absurd amount of tax dollars, got rightfully criticised about the entire thing, and it almost immediately fell apart before our eyes the moment you called it a success. And now you are arresting people for defacement for even touching your patch hack job.

Nothing makes them back off faster IME...

The phantom boyfriend might kick his ass. It's not respect, it is probably fear. Also they're seeking the path of least resistance. A lot easier to interview for a job opening than to try to interview for a job already filled. You do certainly see over-confident/desperate men try that tactic, but most predators are looking for an easy meal, not a competitor.

I mean, he's actively planning to pay out his Jan 6 protestors as we speak. Ostensibly as "reparations" for their "unjust" persecution. But also so they'll show up to do it again when the time comes, as well as any other shameless grifters willing to sell out democracy for a payday. And that's just a case that's entirely out in the open.

That's why every state should have robust Anti-Slapp laws. Furthermore attempting a slapp suit should come with punitive damages beyond just the attorney fees of the defendant of your frivolous suit. And there should be a three strikes system (a boy who cried wolf law) that if you are found to have attempted a slapp suit three times or more, A) you get a felony charge for denial of free speech that can come with jail time for up to 10 years in federal prison, B) the default presumption that any future speech based suits brought by you are likely slapp suits. In other words, the burden is on you to prove that you are likely to win your defamation case before a defense or discovery is even required, and all legal fees are to be taken on by yourself by default unless you win.
