Ban AI Slop?
Yes please. It's dispiriting to regularly go through the cycle of seeing an interesting project pop up here, oh wait it's vibe-coded crap, nevermind...

What did you think that you wouldn't struggle with as you get older, but do?

This! Oddly the more socially confident I've got with age, the more draining and annoying I find social hangouts and noise 😅 Not having to interact with anyone the whole day is bliss (at least in-person, I don't mind reading/writing on these forums).

What about your current life wouls be the most surprising to you half a lifetime ago?
The biggest surprise would definitely be that I'm trans, so I look completely different now than 19-years-old me might have imagined :D

There's also Ecosia that lets you choose between Bing and Google as result provider. (And for a while now they have been working on a European Web Index with Qwant to replace the US sources.)

Literally everyone is one accident, illness, or old age away from being disabled in some way.
yeah I was surprised to come across the statistic that in the UK about quarter of the population has some kind of disability (defined as "a physical or mental health condition or illness that has lasted or is expected to last 12 months or more, and which condition and/or illness reduces their ability to carry out day-to-day activities")

I get a 404 error for that non-paywall link. So here's a mirror: https://archive.ph/MgTmM
Also I'm vaguely pissed that Musk considers Iain Banks his favourite author while managing to completely misunderstand the Culture's values. He even named his droneships after characters from the books 🤢

Even @kurzgesagt can't avoid being swept up in the lies of AI. Pathetic -- Quarantine Collective
Reply in thread
yeah, I'm still subscribed, but don't like their trajectory, a lot of their new videos feel like they're framed too sensationalistically and light on substance. I tried out their historical channel ("Kurzgesagt After Dark") when it launched, but that was even worse, just focusing on the scandal and suffering of their subjects 😮💨
I skip a lot of their videos nowadays, did this AI one too bc I knew it was bullshit.

I love that level of detail in books! Reportedly in the first 6 books of the Wheel of Time every time they mention the moon, it's in the correct phase. Iirc it's never relevant to the plot.
