This country needs some fuckin' reform.
Another demonstration of how NYC is the only real city in America and anywhere else is a suburb larping as a metropolis.
You can't call yourself a metropolis unless half the population uses public transit: change my view.

The NYTimes is once again trashing the most promising mobility innovation of the 21st century
Reply in thread
As a cyclist in NYC the complaint that bikes are weaving through cars is hilarious.
Of course they are. Cars are almost always stuck in traffic while bikes move faster.
I can make my 12ish mile commute in 45 minutes. Until the bridge I spend every mile of that commute passing cars.
That's all besides the point though: there shouldn't be personal passenger vehicles in NYC. Business vehicles sure. A few taxis are personal vehicles because of Uber - sure. But there should be 0 street parking and heavy restrictions on where drivers are allowed to go. We need to take back our streets.

I'm writing this from a crappy laptop with 2GB of RAM and a dull screen.
Resources are just way cheaper than developers.
It's a lot cheaper to have double the ram than it is to pay for someone to optimize your code.
And if you're working with code that requires that serious of resource optimization you'll invariably end up with low level code libraries that are hard to maintain.
... But fuck the Always on internet connection and DRM for sure.

Windows 11 scores dead last in gaming performance tests against 3 Linux gaming distros

Not to mention the major hurdle for Linux gaming is anti cheat software being brought over. Too many games are 100% unplayable because the devs don't allow their anticheat to be installed on Linux systems

Sovcits are all seeking to regain control of their lives. They recognize the system is cold and uncaring but though the power of magical thinking they believe that loopholes exist that can give you control back.
Are they delusional? Yes. Is their pain and frustration, the root cause of the insanity, valid? Absolutely valid, and something all of us (generalizing here, bourgeoisie excluded) experience.
You have more in common with a sovcit than you do with Jeff Bezos or any other billionaire.

Desert Solarpunk is Real
Attempt at changing your mind:
It's not desert solarpunk because solarpunk implies a hopefulness for the future that does not exist in Dune.
Dune and Dune Messiah are tragic cautionary tales which warn against religion and the great man myth. It is supposed to warn the reader that religions take a life of their own and become a tiger that you can grab by the tail, but can never let go of.
On top of that it's talking about oil as spice. If anything: it's diesel punk just with an abstraction around the diesel.

whats 'wrong' with seed oils???
It's mostly bullshit.
Eat a balanced diet and stop stressing about specifics. Eat meat sparingly. Don't drink at all and it'll make a bigger difference in your life than seed oils. Drink in moderation if you can't handle that. Have fruits and veggies daily, as fresh as you can get them. Walk a few miles a day.
All the basic easy stuff is the most effective. There are no tricks, shortcuts or gotchas.

New gender gap
Reply in thread
The left is the only place that is safe to open up as a man.
The right is only safe if you fit a very specific definition of manliness, one that is unrealistic. However that illusion sends millions of the gullible and impressionable chasing after an unobtainable standard.
On the far-right you'll get punched if you like making caramel and baking cakes. The close right just calls you a slur instead.
There are few things more alienating to the wide range of male expression than the right wing.
I grew up as a conservative and was never accepted. Opening up, being emotionally vulnerable, expressing "feminine" (ie non traditional) interests: every time it lost me any sort of male friendship. I was excluded, mocked and called homophobic slurs.
I'm a cisgender straight white man but because I was a square peg to their traditional round hole I was an outcast.
The right is the cause of male depression and loneliness. It enforces the gender norms that make men feel they have to be a rock, provide for family, die for their country, shut up about their feelings.
The only safe place for men to open up is on the left.

Sadly I don't function
ADHD isn't functioning in chaos. It's causing chaos while functioning.
Big difference.
If you have ADHD you should make special efforts to keep your place cleaner than average, at least in my experience.
It's a lot easier to manage stimulation when you have things tidy. It's just extra effort to get there.

Thiel has 2 real fears and he's been pretty consistently worrying about them.
A proletariat uprising would be apocalyptic in his view AND he would undoubtedly get the Mao special if one happened.
There's 0 chance of one because Americans are way too divided but this killing is the biggest source of existential dread for him and he's probably been waking up with nightmares about it.
