Anon likes a thing

Roblox. I played it as a kid around 2007 when it was just a small Lego-like building game with your friends. It's been really weird seeing it become some predatory, monetized app game that kids play on their iPad now.

For reference, I'm almost 30 and haven't played it since I was like 14. My friend's kid was playing Roblox on his tablet and asked if I "heard of this new app game called Roblox" and it hurt my soul.

People are upset because they want to use a premium service without paying for it. The dev was kind enough to add a free version, which is supported by ads. However, the ads in the free version use trackers (just like pretty much every ad service), so people are getting hysterical that the app is "spying" on them.

It would be one thing if this was the only app for Lemmy, but there's numerous other apps on the market they could use.

Although none of them are even half as polished as Sync 😉

Checking Account

I feel this religiously. I work at a credit union and we have a member who constantly gets angry and threatens to shoot up the place, but management won't close his accounts and ban him because he owns multiple businesses that bank with us.

How bad is the software engineering job today?

My company gave us access to AI tools and encourage us to use them, but nothing is forced, which is nice. I like using Claude for light scripting, explaining bits of code, and as a second set of eyes during review.

If you have AI generate all of your code, you're going to have a bad time. But if you're completely against AI and unwilling to use it, you're probably going to be left in the dust.
