Whenever I see things like this I think back to something Lewis Black once said back during the Occupy Wall Street protests. They had him on ABC or one of the major news stations and asked him what he thought about it. His answer was along the lines of, "When were the college kids ever wrong?"

I'm glad it didn't get a sequel because it is such a good stand alone movie. I'm just shocked the studio didn't try to milk it for everything it had.

I worked at a pizza place in highschool and one of our delivery drivers was an elderly guy who drove your typical delivery driver beat up old Honda Civic type car. He was a super nice guy, but never talked much about himself. Then one day he shows up to work in a Maserati because apparently his Civic wouldn't start. Turns out he was a crew member with freaking Jacques Cousteau and was very wealthy. He just delivered pizza for something to do and because he liked meeting new people.

He eventually sold the Maserati to one of my coworkers for a couple of thousand of dollars because it needed a new fuel pump and he didn't feel like dealing with it. Yet, he kept that sun bleached Civic for as long as I worked there.

One of the favorite stories is about the first time I took my wife to England. She majored in British literature in college and is the type of person who reads Shakespeare for fun, and can even read and speaks middle English. I worked and traveled to England a few times a year and had lived there in my early 20s, before we met.

For our fifth anniversary I took her to England. It was her first time ever leaving the US. In fact the first time she left the southern US.

We're standing at the curb at Gatwick waiting for a cab and there are two guys behind us talking. My wife leans over and whispers, "what language are they speaking?"

I just started laughing, and explained they were speaking English, they are just Scottish. All that book learning and studying of the language couldn't prepare her for the Scottish accent.

Problem solved

I built a new PC from the ground up a few year back. Every morning when I would sit down to start working I noticed it had rebooted around 6:30 am. I searched through every single log, ran all sorts of hardware scans, checked power outputs, dug through everything in Task Schedulers, and could not find a single reason it would keep rebooting. There were no Event Logs showing the reboot was initiated and no minidump files so it wasn't a BSOD.

I woke up early one morning and sat in my office waiting for it to reboot and nothing. The next morning I go in my office at 8 and it had rebooted. Some mornings it would reboot and others it would not. I was convinced it had to be my power supply and was about to order a new one.

Then I came downstairs right at 6:30 one morning and caught my son walking out of my office. Turns out he was going into the office every morning and holding down the power button and forcing a reboot because liked watching all the RGB light turning all at once when it would turn on.

I did buy a house in 2008. January of 2008. Two months before the market crashed. It took me years not to be upside down.

There is Nebula, but it requires a subscription. However, all of the creators on it are part owners, so you know they get a better deal than whatever YouTube is giving them. Well worth the $50 a year to me.

So, I asked Chat GPT to write a quick PowerShell script to find the number of months between two dates. The first answer it gave me took the number of days between them and divided by 30. I told it, it needs to be more accurate than that, so it wrote a while loop to add 1 months to the first date until it was larger than the 2 second date. Not only is that obviously the most inefficient way to do it, but it had no checks to ensure the one in the loop was actually smaller so you could just end up with zero. The results I got from co-pilot were not much better.

From my experience, unless there is existing code to do exactly what you want, these AI are not to the level of an experienced dev. Not by a long shot. As they improve, they'll obviously get better, but like with anything you have to keep up and adapt in this industry or you'll get left behind.

I grew up in the 80s and 90s in catholic house, so all I really knew about her was she ripped up a picture of the pope on SNL. I wasn't familiar with her music at all. Then around 2001 I went to a Dropkick Murphys concert and before they came on stage they played The Foggy Dew by The Chieftains. I had never heard this song before and I remember being absolutely enamored by the ghostly vocals and having no idea it was her singing. 20+ years later I still get chills listening to it.
