If you chose not to decide, you still have made a choice…

Reply in thread

I'm not judging people with their life/freedom at risk deciding to get out while they can. I am judging the person I responded to for saying that voting against fascism is support for fascism. There are a lot of people getting hurt and dieing abroad who didn't have the choice to vote in our elections, and I judge anyone saying that by not voting they are not at fault for what their vote might have prevented.

How long do you keep your backups?

Reply in thread

I'm not doing any sort of backup conversion. Borgbase is a website that focuses on hosting borg backups, but they also natively support restic. I chose restic out of convenience for my local backups because it came preinstalled on truenas and figured it made sense to use the same for my cloud backups.

How AI text watermarking works: a visual guide

Assuming a checker tool is public it's enough for a teacher to verify classwork, but AI providers having the sole ability to identify generated content with no way to independently verify is not a real solution.

Plus this site advertises a tool to remove this watermarking, so it can't be that hard to scrub out if you're aware of it.

makeMKV gone? - Is there a plan B?

Not sure about the AUR, but the site goes down all the time and the creator has been MIA for months in the past. It's still on flathub and you can download publicly maintained keydbs, so even if the creator and website vanished permanently it'll keep working. If it were to stop working at some point you could probably cobble together a replacement with a few other tools: aaru to dump the disc, something to decrypt the aacs files, and mkvtoolnix to remux.
